I am trying to find some earlier Seabrook ancestors. The furtherest I have managed to trace them back to is John Seabrook b1804c Guildford Surrey son of Thomas Seabrook.

I do not know where or when Thomas was born but he died at Guildford in 1815 aged 46 putting his birth date at approx 1769.

John was a listed on different census as being a blacksmith, a bell hanger and locksmith.

Another researcher looked up the parish records for me of St Giles and found the marriage of John Seabrook to Mary Tickner at Stoke next Guildford. The marriage was witnessed by Ann Seabrook and George Tickner.

She also stated that St Mary Guildford there are two christenings listed being John 1804 and Ann 1806 with their father being Thomas Seebrook (and Saybrook)

Mary Tickner was the daughter of George Tickner and I am trying to find them too. I do not know if the George who witnessed the marriage was her father or brother, same as I do not know if Ann was Johns sister or mother.

Mary died sometime between 1830 and 1833. I dont have a death record or location for her but probably Marylebone. Their son (also) John was born in either 1830 or 1831. In 1833 John Snr married Martha Young and had a further six children.

John and Mary had moved to Marylebone sometime between 1828 and 1830/31 as John Jnr was born there. John Snr is listed on all the census as being born in Guildford.

I have found John and his descendants by both Mary and Martha on all the census from 1841 to 1901 and have verified most information from certificates back to the son of John Jnr - Alfred b1865.

What I mostly need help with is finding out where these Seabrooks came from.

I have a couple of possible clues. There was a William Seabrook b1790 or 1795 Guildford who may be another sibiling but I have not been able to find any record of who his father is to confirm this. I found him on the census. He married Susannah Avery of Devenport some time before 1827. William was a soldier and spent time in both Ireland and Australia. I have been in contact with a couple of others who are descendant from him but they are no further back than William.

It has also been suggested to me that my Seabrooks are probably related to the Suffolk Seabrooks, but I know nothing about them to check if there is a link anywhere.

If these names or information rings a bell with anyone could they let me know. I would also like to catch up with any other descendants of Thomas Seabrook, I do not know who Ann married and my descendants for John are incomplete particularly with the women.

Also if anyone happens to have access to the parish registers around the Guildford area any checks of the records for my people would be greatly appreciated as I am in Australia and cannot get to them.

Debby
