Hi Tania,

Not sure exactly how much you have already but here's what I have. His parents were Thomas Seal and Ann Rolfe. Thomas born 1772 died 1842 in Tasmania (I believe buried at Brighton Tas). He married Ann Rolfe in 1804 at Southwark, London, England. Ann was born in 1787 and was also baptised at St Andrews in Holborn. I don't have a date for when she died. I guess it's from her surname that the use of Rolfe became prevalent for first and middle names for later generations. They must have been quite a strong family group and/or there must be a very interesting story behind that.

Her parents were Joseph Rolfe and Lucy. I don't have any dates for them. I believe I got that from a shorthand note for the baptism listing.

That's about all I have. I wish I new more about their circumstance for leaving England and when exactly that was. I'd also like to find out more about Thomas Seal. His parents, etc. but I've had no luck there yet.

My Ggreatgrandmother Matida Seal born 1792 Stoke Abbott,married Robert Hardy in 1811. Was a cousin to Esther Seal who married Matthew Oliver.He is listed on the marriage certificate.The Seals were from Broadwindsor, Dorset area.

My records show above living in Chippenham, Cambs who married a Susanna Talbot of Botesdale, Suffolk. Sons were John,Robert,Alfred,and Christopher born in Chippenham.

I have some of subsequent generation family tree which started in Manea, Cambridgeshire. Christopher (the son b.1843) married a Hannah (Norwegian) and moved to Illinois, USA and had 4 children born between 1870-1879.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I have got some links with Middlesex but none of the names you mention. I've got a William Seal b. 1866 in Pimlico, Middlesex, Frederick John Seal b. 1867 Pimlico, Albert Seal b. 1870 in Pimlico and then lots of brothers and sisters who were born in London as they moved there after Albert was born.

The only reference to the USA I can find in my family tree is that of William Seal who was born in 1866 Pimlico, Middlesex, London (as it was then, not anymore) and emigrated to Canada at some point. As far as I know none of my relatives lived in Wales.

With Seal being a fairly rare name and the close proximity of our ancestors, there must be a chance we're connected via some common ancestor. I'd love to know who your John Henry's father was.

Hi Lynda, I too have got back to the late 1700's in London for Seal ancestors. My oldest one is James Seal, a whipmaker, and his son John, born 1818 in London, is also a direct ancestor. Would be interested to hear about your London Seals.

I've had a look at that part of my tree and I don't have huge amounts of detail so I haven't found your people yet. However it sounds like they might be related. I don't have any siblings for my John Henry Seal; I just know he was a seaman and he married an AnnWestcoate. Their second son was Joseph Henry Seal b.1861. He was my GG grandfather. Any ideas gratefully accepted. I really need to get down to London and do some parish records reserach.

Also, according to the 1841 Census, there's another Ezekial Seal, thirty years younger, in the same town. It's highly likely that he's related (son or nephew...)

Here's ancestry.com's advice:

How do I find copies of the originals?

For unfilmed original parish records go to The Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish Registers, under the county of interest. This will then direct you the County Record Office where the registers are housed. You can also contact local genealogy societies or local parishes for information on viewing original records. See Crockford's Clerical Directory, a directory of Church of England clergy, if you wish to write to a parish. It is published annually.

There are other church records, and a search on Familysearch.org on the FHLC can provide you with listings of original parish records by doing a locality search for your county/parish, then look under "Church Record" type.

Most likely the informant would be a family member.

Also, having a death date will help you find other court records -- will, probate, etc.

You should search for court records for his grandson, too. They may reveal parents, other siblings, etc.

My GGGG Grandmother is Mary Seal born 15 Jun 1815 in London. She married Isaac P. Terry on 14 Oct 1833 at Sutton By Croydon, Surrey, England. They emmigrated to New York in 1835, and later settled in Michigan where they lived out their lives. If you have any Seals from the London area that might be worth looking at as relations, please I'd like hear from you.
