It's been such a long time since I've done any MOON research. I never did find the reason for Woodie having the middle name of Seils.

Woodie Seils MOON was my grandfather. I remember as a child hearing my mom refer to her "Uncle Fletch," which was your grandfather. His name was actually brought up quite often but, unfortunately, I never paid any attention to what they were saying. My grandfather died when he was about 42 and my mom was only 2 years old, so I never knew him at all.

I've been working on so many other ancestors and someday hope to get back to MOON. Should I come across any information, I will gladly send it your way. I have a picture of Woodie. If you would like it, I can scan it for you. Contact me at sjp1049@sbcglobal.net.
Sharon

Hello. My GGrandfather was James Allen Moon, the son of Young Allen Moon & Sarah Mandley Staples. James Allen named 1 of his sons Woodie Seils Moon. I have always wondered about the Seils connection - felt like it was a surname but have not seen it anywhere else in my research. I would love to know what you have been able to find out.

My Grandfather (a son of James Allen Moon) was Fletcher Frederick Moon. He was born in Collin Co. Texas in 1892. He & his brother Woodie Seils Moon were very close.

Penny,
I saw your book on the website you have highlighted in one of your board messages. I am interested in the Seal family information. You have a daughter, Susan, listed as daughter to John Seal and Sarah (Rhea) Seal. Just wondering where you found that information since she is not listed on the 1850 census. Also, you have Elizabeth Seal married to George Gatrow. I was also wondering where you found that information. I would really appreciate your help. I realize it has probably been quite some time since you found the information so you may not remember. I thought Elizabeth might have been married to George Catron. I would greatly appreciate it if you would share the source/sources of your information for this Seal family. Thanks so much.

We have an old family Bible with the name of Beryl Seals in it. It mostly has Edmond Seals in it. I have old letters with Seals in Tennessee, Missouri,Florida and a few others, I believe. These letters go as far back as 1830's. I believe I also have a ledger and old ads.I also have George Seals, John Seals, Martha Seals, Belle Seals and a few others. One of the letters is asking about a family member and asks how old long nose is doing.

Dan Seals, 61. NASHVILLE, Tenn." A, Successful Country Career, loved to Play and Sing
,,
Dan Seals
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)
- Dan Seals, who was England Dan in the pop duo England Dan and John Ford Coley and later had a successful country career, has died of complications from cancer. He was 61.

Longtime manager Tony Gottlieb said Seals, diagnosed with lymphoma two years ago, died Wednesday night at his daughter's home in Nashville.

With England Dan and John Ford Coley, Seals had hits including "I'd Really Like to See You Tonight" and "Nights Are Forever," both in 1976. His country hits in the '80s and '90s included "Bop," "You Still Move Me," "Love on Arrival," and a duet with Marie Osmond, "Meet Me in Montana."

"I've loved to play and sing from the moment I knew what it was," he told The Associated Press in 1992.

Seals, who is survived by his wife and four children, was in hospice care when he died.

"He was very positive," said Gottlieb, Seals' manager for about 30 years. "He participated in several clinical trials to assist with research on this type of lymphoma."

Gottlieb said a major misconception about Seals is that he was a pop singer who came to country music. In reality, he said, Seals grew up singing country music and crossed into pop.

"He was raised in a very rural part of West Texas. His father was an amateur country singer, and he used to play with his dad. They were Hank Williams, Grand Ole Opry people. He was much more of a country singer than a pop singer."

Seals' older brother, Jimmy, was the Seals in Seals & Crofts, who recorded the hits "Summer Breeze" and "Diamond Girl" in the 1970s.

Until Dan Seals got sick, the brothers were working as a duo, Seals & Seals. They performed some shows and were recording an album but never finished it. The songs they did complete, about eight in all, will be released.

"In the last two years he only did like three shows," Gottlieb said. "He just didn't have the energy."

Seals, whose father was a pipefit t er, was born in McCamey, Texas, and grew up in Iraan, Texas, and Dallas.

His well-crafted songs tended to be insightful and graphic with lofty themes. In 1989, his music video for the song "Rage On" addressed a topic rare in country music: an interracial relationship. It showed angry youths smashing the windows of the car of a young man dating a girl of a different race. One boy hurled a beer bottle at the girl's father. The song itself was about small town values.

"When we record songs, we take chances," Seals said at the time. "We feel we are on the cutting edge of what we can do."

She died in 1903 in Vermilion Co, IL, which is where most of my Seals family lived.

Calvin and Sarah had a son, Charles B.
My husband is David Seal, his father was Adrian Seal and his grandfather was William E Seal and his great grandfather was also William E Seal who married a Naomi Busenbury (Busenbury is spelled various ways) he was born in 1851 and is buried in Evergreen cemetery in Clinton, NJ. If anyone knows who his father was I would appreciate it. I have not been able to trace the Seal family line beyond William Seal born 1851. William had several children and some go under the last name of Seals and some just Seal.
