Mary Jane Searcy

I hope someone can help me. I can't find parents for my great-grandmother Mary Jane Searcy. She was born May 1820 maybe in Kentucky. She married James Madison Armstrong on 19 Oct. 1837 in Madison Co. Kentucky. Consent was given by her mother Sarah ??Farrusster?? & Wyatte Parker. Witness' were Robert C. Parker & James Parker. So my thinking is her father is dead & mother has remarried with her maiden name possibly being Parker. I'm sure she must belong to the Searcy's in the area but can find no mention of her in any wills, deeds, death records.Nor a Sarah Parker marrying a Searcy. I really hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Burk Searcy (Afr-Amer), born 9-1849, married to Georgia Searcy (Afr-Amer), born 7-1857, both of Georgia. One of their sons was my g-granfather Anderson Searcy, born 4-1879, in Georgia.

According to the 1900 Georgia census, Burk was about 50 years old, but I can't find his name anywhere else. There was Barcas Searcy in the 1870 Georgia census, whose age is close. I'm looking for input on Burk's parents, listed to have been born in GA. William Williams (white), a farmer, was listed in the 1860 slave schedule census, and the 1870 federal Georgia census.

I lack long-term patience on searching info for this man's background and possible ties to my g-grandfather. I'd appreciate it if someone could provide input.

The Searcy Family of Early Georgia – the Tale of Three Aaron’s

The Searcy Family of Early Georgia – the Tale of Three Aaron Searcy’s

There are too many Aaron Searcy's in early GA, but maybe that is an asset to figuring the families out!
I've posted a new study at my website www.searcyfea.com.

Aaron Searcy (b.ca.1763), who served in the Revolutionary War, was likely the son of Daniel Searcy (b.ca.1763) and brother of William Searcy (b.1777)

Aaron Searcy (b.ca.1790), of Baldwin Co, GA, was the son of George Searcy (b.ca.1760-65) of Cumberland Co, NC. George Searcy and Daniel Searcy were brothers, so these first two Aaron’s would be first cousins.

Aaron Searcy (b.ca.1797), of Tishomingo, MS, was not a son of Daniel Searcy (could have been a grandson) or a son of George Searcy. Aaron is likely to be a brother of Irwin Searcy, who followed him to Tishomingo, MS. Given their later birth years, this Aaron Searcy is more likely to be the grandchild of one of the Searcy brothers of Johnston/Cumberland Cos, NC.
John Searcy born 1728 married Ann Morgan according to my research. One of his sons was George born 1760. He married Rebecca. Moved from Johnson Co, N.C. to Cumberland Co . In 1807, George recorded a deed granting title of his land of 210 prime acres to his seven children, George Washington Searcy b. 1785 was the second child listed on the deed. One of G.W.'s brother's John b. 1786 had a son named James Searcy whose first marriage ended in the wife's death. I need to know the name of the child she and James had. This could be my missing link. If James married a Jane Adams then this would be the parents of James Wesley Searcy. As I have a copy of the letter that states his mother's was a Jane Adams. Can you help?

Searcy Family of North Carolina, Talbot Co., GA, and Alachua Co., FL

Searching for information about the ancestry of William W. Searcy (Cercy/Scearcy/Scercy), born May 1845 in Georgia.

Here's what I know:

William W. Searcy, born May 1845
* married Parazade Adams (daughter of Amos and Telitha Adams? of Talbot Co., Georgia)
* moved to Alachua County, Florida (appears in 1870 and 1880 census in Alachua county) and then to Marion County, Florida (1900 census)
* Death date and place unknown -- possibly Florida but cannot find him listed in the Florida Death Index
* son Amos John Robert Searcy, born 19 Feb 1872 in Newberry, Alachua County, Florida and died 2 Jan 1941 in Palmetto, Manatee County, Florida
* On several census records (1880 and 1900) William W. Searcy lists his father's birthplace as North Carolina and his mother's birthplace as Georgia.

What I think might be true:
* I believe there is a connection to Talbot and/or Taylor Counties in Georgia.
* Possible parents: John Searcy (b. abt 1824 in North Carolina) and Emilia Brown (b. abt 1831 in Georgia). I found John and Emila in Talbot county, Georgia living in the home of Nathaniel Brown; they have a son, William, born about 1847 (this date is abt 2 years off from the 1845 date I have but I think it's close enough), and a daugher, Mary, born about 1849. I cannot find John/Emilia Searcy in any other census or any other record.
* Living next door to John/Emilia Searcy in the 1850 census is George and Mary Searcy. Possible connection?

I know of the other Searcy families in Talbot and Taylor Counties, Georgia (Rev. Dr. John Searcy and his brother William, as well as their parents William/Sarah Searcy and various descendents -- in addition to a John Searcy and Charlotte Marbry Searcy who I find in the Taylor County, Georgia 1860 census) but I cannot determine if the William W. Searcy I'm looking for is related to these other Searcy families. I know Rev. Dr. John Searcy and his brother William Searcy descend from John and Phoebe Searcy of Granville, North Carolina. How can I determine if my William Searcy is related to this family as well?

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for the death certificate info. I will send for a copy. I've also found a copy of his WW1 Draft Registration card, but thanks for the offer. I don't have any idea when he died. From the little I know, after Calvin's wife (Alice House) died their children were taken in by family members. My father was adopted by his mom's uncle and always went by the surname House. I was told there was always a fear that Calvin would take away my father but I have no idea if that fear was founded or not.

Pinson is in Jefferson County. I believe it's northeast of B'ham.

Thanks again!

Calvin Lee Searcy, Blue Ridge, GA....

Hi,

I'm trying to find information on the Searcy side of my family. From what little info I have, Calvin Lee Searcy was born @ 1890 in (I guess) Blue Ridge, GA. At some point he moved to Alabama because he was listed on the birth certificate of one of his children as being 29 years old and living on Route 2, Pinson, AL. His occupation was listed as "sawmiller."

Calvin Lee Searcy was married to Alice House of Springville, AL. They are my paternal grandparents. I've always been told my grandmother (Alice House) died in childbirth and her children were adopted by family members. My father (Alice and Calvin's son) was adopted by Alice's brother, Memory Allen House. My knowledge of the Searcy side of the family ends there.

If anyone has info on Searcys from Blue Ridge, GA, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know.

I have a copy of that deed and it only says "my son George Searcy". I know that George W is his son, but there is no document that says that his middle name is Washington or that George born 1760 is the son of John Searcy. He is more likely the son of William Searcy,sr who was in Johnston Co., NC where George lived for a while with several other Searcys.

Do check some of the posts of Waunita Powell and Terry Searcy on this topic. They have done really exhaustive research.

NOW, this is not to say that it is not possible that these two families are connected--only that a paper trail does no exist at this time to connect them.

There is no documentation supporting a connection between George W Searcy (1785-1855) and John Searcy of Granville Co. Also that his middle name is Washington, while probable, appears on no documents concerning him that I have found. This includes the census and his Bounty Warrant File and Mary Prince Searcy's Widow's pension file.

Try to find out if there was an obituary in the local paper. Also, write to the funeral homes on the death certificate and see if they have a record on him. Sometimes they have more info than appears in an obit.

Blue Ridge is so close to the NC boarder it is possible that he is connected to one of the other Searcy lines of Rutherford Co. (I am just speculating here). Our DNA project has shown a close relationship between the Searcys of Cumberland Co, NC and Rutherford Co.

Good luck.

Joe

You don't mention when he died. I found the following death certificate. You could order a copy of it and it might have his parents' names one it. I also have his WW1 Draft Registration card. I could send you a copy if you like. What county is Pinson in? I don't know if he is connected to my line or not. The name is not familiar to me, but that is not important.
Calvin L.
Nathaniel Searcy of Fannin Co. TX was my GGGGrandfather. He had at least two sons, John Abner Searcy and a William Searcy, I believe. John Abner had several children, including Robert Lionel (my GGrandfather) and F. C. (killed in a duel in Garland, AR c. 1914). John Abner apparently moved to Lafayette Co., AR, since several of his children ended up there.

Hi to all you Searcy's out there :D
I'm tracing the Searcy line (my mums mum being our link) I've read much on John Searcy & Phoebe Hargreaves and am wondering if I can tie into them, but my research stops a generation or two before them.

Mine goes:
William Searcy b. Leicestershire 1745 abt
John Searcy b. 7 Jan 1775 Melton, Leicestershire
John Holmes Searcy b. 11 Jan 1801 Attenborough, Nottinghamshire
Daniel Searcy b. 10 Jun 1832 Nottinghamshire
Daniel Searcy b. Dec 1865 Nottinghamshire
John Searcy b. 1897 Nottinghamshire
Ida May Searcy b. 1923 Nottinghamshire
mum
me

I'm yet to confirm William b. 1745 d.o.b. and definate place of birth, plus his father.

However, in my research, the USA John (theres so many Johns, I call the one that went to the US, USA John ;)) there is reference to his parents being Joseph & Mary (or maybe John & Mary, or even John & Sarah!) But there is reference to a Joseph & Mary being buried in Melton Leicestershire, where my Williams son John was born. Also, I have marriages etc in Widmerpool, where USA John was born.

Therefore I'm thinking that Joseph & Mary's children that stayed in the UK, could be my relation, but I can only find mention of their sons that went to the USA. I can't follow the remainin children down the line to see if its on my side. Can anyone shed any light on the siblings of USA John that stayed behind in the UK?

This then brings me to France........... The Chateau de Sercy is supposedly where us Searcys all started!? I've found reference to Joseph father of USA John, that his father was John Louis Sercy b. 1640 in France, has anyone else come across this?

I want to get as much information as possible, printed out and bound to present to my gt uncle and my gt aunt, both living Searcy's.

If you can help, that would be much appreciated, if you can't, no worries, take care, and have a lovely day x

The Searcy Family of Early Virginia

I have posted a preliminary study of the Searcy Family of Early Virginia at my new web site www.searcyfea.com.

The earliest record is of Robert Sercey in 1695, possibly the same or perhaps the father of Robert Searcy of Hannover Co, VA in the will dated 1733.
Re: Charlotte Searcy md William Lewis, 1874 Texas

Hi Robin. I do have william and Lavinia's marriage record 1-1-1852, Galveston.
Still stuck on Charlotte H. Searcy. You and I are 2nd cousins. Ruby and my Grandmother are sisters. My mother, Mary, and Ruby (her aunt), were only a year apart and raised more like sisters or cousins. I believe that you are Doug's daughter. Am I correct on this assumption?
