Leona Ella Prouty, 89, formerly of Green Valley Road and Evergreen Village, New Concord,Ohio died at 9:20 p.m. Monday, June 8th, 2009, at Beckett House, New Concord, Muskingum county, Ohio.
She was born August 18, 1919, in New Concord, Ohio a daughter of the late Carey Alton and Florence Blanche McCreary Seaton. She was a 1937 graduate of New Concord High School, a member of the Rix Mills Presbyterian Church and the Women's Circle of the Church, a member of the Chandlersville Senior Citizens, and for many years was a member of the Chandlersville Grange. She was a former employee of Baker's Motel.
Leona loved playing cards, bingo, and especially enjoyed country gospel music. Her favorite band was that of her family, "The Green Valley Pickers."
Her husband, John H. Prouty, whom she married December 29, 1939, preceded her in death on May 14, 1982.
She is survived by daughters, Bev (Sam) Rickett, Zanesville, Carol (Jim) Morrison, and Patsy (Dan) Tom, both of Chandlersville, Ohio; and Betty (Charlie) Neptune, New Concord; brother, John Seaton, Canal Winchester, Ohio; nine granchildren, Ron Rickett, Tammy Rickett, Jason (Jini) Rickett, Sherry (John) Yoho, Brad (Dina) Morrison, Mike (Pat) Tom, Chrisy (Jamie) Harrop, Garry (Darla) Neptune, Michelle (Rick) Brown, and granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Carter; 18 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband; she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Leota Daugherty; sisters, Lucille Ossing, and Nancy Walters; brothers, Albert Seaton, Bill Seaton, and Paul Seaton; and her grandson, Tommy A. Neptune.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 11, from 5-8 p.m. at the Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 West Main Street, New Concord. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 12, at the funeral home with Paster Jim Gibson officiating. Burial will be in the Rich Hill Cemetery near Rix Mills, Ohio.
