From the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper, 15 July 1936 issue, page 2:

"OBITUARY"
JACOB S. SECHLER
Jacob S. Sechler, a prominent layman of the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Philadelphia, died yesterday at his home, 1953 N. Broad st. He was 77. Some seven weeks ago Mr. Sechler was struck by an automobile and was a patient in the Hahnemann Hospital until 10 days ago.
Mr. Sechler was born in Hanover, Pa. and was educated in the public schools there. When 21 he came to Philadelphia and for a time was employed in the Wanamaker store. In 1881 he entered the undertaking business and at the time of his death headed the firm of Sechler and Maguire, Broad and Norris sts.
Son of a minister of the Reformed Church, Mr. Sechler identified himself with the Heidelberg Church, Broad st. and Grange ave., on his arrival in the city and for many years was an elder. He founded St. Andrew's Church, 22nd st. and Snyder ave., 51 years ago, and since then had been superintendent of its Sunday School. For 50 years he was one of the chaplains at the Philadelphia General Hospital. He held various offices in the Reformed Church and was a member of several fraternal orders, including the Masons, Odd Fellows, Artizans, P. O. S. of A and the Brotherhood of America. He is survived by his wife and one son, Wilbur.
