My father is from the Seebeck family and lived in Jones, his name is Fred. I'm sure we are from the same family, however, your name isn't ringing a bell? I may have already met you, do you live in Oklahoma? Seebeck is kind of a rare last name I think too, so I'm sure we're related somehow. I would like to know more about our family history though, because I can't so much do so in regards to my mother's side (she was adopted).

Have you come across a Morris Ernest Julius Seebeck b. abt 1879? From censuses, it states he is from Germany. The only info I have on him is his wife's name, Lucy Lewin, and the two children they had- Harold T and Kenneth. Harold was born in 1908 and died in 1997. I don't know what happened to Kenneth.

Lucy was born on Long Island and passed away there. Morris and Lucy lived in Maryland and Queens, NY together. One family story said he went MIA in WWI, but he shows up on a 1920's census.

I am trying to find info on him. If this reads and sounds familiar, please let me know. Thanks-

Jordan brownjord@yahoo.com

Seebeck from Germany

Researching the ancestors and descendents of my third great grandfather Henry (Heinrich) Seebeck. He was born in Hannover, Germany about 1817. Departing from the port of Bremen, he emigrated to New York City, arriving in 1839. Somewhere between 1840 and 1845 he married Rebecca Grimm, also from Hannover, who arrived in New York City in 1840. Their children were born during the 1840s and 1850s. The 1860 US Census finds the family living on the west side of Manhattan. If you think there is any connection on either side, or that you have any additional info, please contact me. Thanks.

Seebecks in Old New York

Hi All,

My three-greats grandfather Henry (probably originally Heinrich) Seebeck emigrated from Hanover, Germany to America. I'm not certain of the exact year, but I believe it to be around 1839. He married Rebecca Grimm, who also emigrated from Hanover, Germany to America (separately) in 1840. They settled in New York City (Manhattan) and had at least five children together - Emma Rebecka Seebeck b. abt. 1845, Henry Seebeck b. Dec 1847, Frederick Seebeck b. abt. 1850, Anna Mary Seebeck b. abt. 1853, and Margaret B. Seebeck b. Apr 1859.

The third child above, Frederick Seebeck (my great great grandfather), married Lena Twele in New York City on Feb 17, 1872. They had at least four children together - Frederick Gerhard Seebeck b. 12-7-1873, Henry Seebeck b. 8-14-1875, Lena Seebeck b. abt. 1876-77, and George Seebeck b. 11-20-1878.

The youngest child above, George Seebeck (my great grandfather), married Catherine Nenstiel in Manhattan on Apr 7, 1901. They had four children together - Frederick G. Seebeck b. 2-10-1903 and d. 9-14-1960, Minnie Hellen Seebeck b. 12-8-1904 and d. 4-1-1963, John Charleton Seebeck b. 9-28-1906 and d. 4-13-1962, and Carrie Seebeck b. 8-7-1908 and d. unknown. George Seebeck later married a second time to Anna Bowers and had another child - Francis Xavier Seebeck b. 11-15-1916 and d. Oct 1964.

The oldest child above, Frederick G. Seebeck (my grandfather), married Anna Charlotte Gebauer in Manhattan on Apr 16, 1922. All of my immediate clan (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) are therefore descended from these two.

From my three-greats grandparents in the first paragraph above, I have been able to trace some of the other lineages (outside of my immediate clan) down for a few generations. Due to the lack of census records after 1930 as well as a limited knowledge of family history among relatives, however, I have not yet been able to locate any living relatives outside of my immediate clan, though I'm certain that such living descendents exist. I do come across the name "Seebeck" (a fairly uncommon name) in various forums as I do my research, but for the most part they are Seebecks from other clans and living in other states.

I would be very interested in locating any other living descendents, especially with the name Seebeck, or even obtaining any further information on the various lineages from outside of my clan. I would be extremely grateful to anybody who would have happened to come across such information in their research.

Here is some additional information that might help: From the first American-born generation above, Emma Rebecka Seebeck married Juergen Rathjen in New York City on 10-26-1869, and so began a branch of "Rathjen" descendents.

From the next generation (the children of my great great grandparents), Frederick Gerhard Seebeck married Augusta Clabes in Manhattan on Apr 12, 1903. They had at least three children - William Seebeck b. abt. 1905 (possibly William Edward Seebeck b. 12-15-1905 and d. 6-26-1966), Henrietta Helen Seebeck b. 1-12-1907 and d. May 1979, and Augusta S. Seebeck b. 8-23-1912 and d. 9-19-1998. I believe William's wife may have been Marjorie M. Seebeck b. 5-12-1913 and d. 3-15-1996. Henrietta Helen Seebeck married Howard J. Henke in the Bronx on 5-6-1925. They had at least two children - Howard Henke, Jr. b. 8-20-1925 and d. Dec 1985, and Dorothy Henke b. abt 1926. Augusta S. Seebeck married Raymond W. Hardy in the Bronx on 4-8-1933, so any children of theirs would have been named Hardy.

Also from the children of my great great grandparents, Henry Seebeck married Emily Clifford in Manhattan on 4-3-1898. They had at least three surviving children - May Seebeck b. 5-24-1906, James Andrew Seebeck b. 6-18-1909 and d. 11-14-1971, and Jeanette M. Seebeck b. 12-8-1915. James Andrew Seebeck married Elizabeth Marie Quinn in Manhattan on 10-2-1932. Elizabeth died on 7-22-76. They are both buried in Long Island National Cemetery.

Also from the children of my great great grandparents, Lena Seebeck married William Burke in Manhattan on 2-11-1895, and so began a branch of descendents named "Burke".

From the next generation (the children of my great grandparents), Minnie Hellen Seebeck married Frederick E. Watson in Manhattan on 5-26-1923, and so began a branch of descendents named "Watson". Minnie died on 4-1-1963 and is buried in Long Island National Cemetery. John Charleton Seebeck married Margaret Ann Kiernan in Manhattan on 3-10-1936. John died on 4-13-1962 in the Washington D.C. area and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. I know nothing of Carrie Seebeck, other than that she was living in the Bronx during the late 1950s and early 1960s, and that she had two daughters. Unfortunately, I do not even know what her married name was. Francis Xavier Seebeck's wife's name was Helen. Francis died in Oct 1964 and is buried in Amwell Ridge cemetery in New Jersey. The children of these people would be the cousins of my aunts and uncles from my immediate clan. I'm sure that they are out there somewhere, but I have simply not been able to locate any of them.

I apologize for the length of this posting. I figure, however, that if I can establish a connection with any other living relatives outside of my immediate clan, the information that I have provided here will be as useful to them as their own research would be to me. Any information that could be helpful to me would be very much appreciated.

Thanks much.

Hello fellow Seebeck's! Wow.. I didn't realize how many there were of us!! Anyway, my Ggrand-father was a man by the name of Abraham Seebeck, his father was Geard Seebeck. That's as far as my family has gotten. We've been stuck at this point for the passed 5-6 years. There seems to be no record of Geard's parents. If your father's family tree has any information it would be wonderful. Just so you know, my father and my brother have both seen the Seebeck family Bible, but it still has no leads... Geard Seebeck didn't pop out of no where, the information is somewhere out there... thanks for your help!

Does anybody have any information on my great-grandmother Anna Seebeck, who was born in Ontario, Canada in 1857. She was of German descent. She married Richard Jarvis and had many children, one of whom was Iva, who was my grandmother. She married Robert Porter. All of these grandparents lived in Markham, York in Ontario and are buried in the Box Grove United Church Cemetary. I think perhaps Anna's father's name might have been Willis and her mother's maiden name was Lehman (or similar spelling). Help!!

This is for Justin Seebeck. Thank you for your info on Anna Seebeck. Since I posted my first message, I have found out a lot about my Seebeck relatives. Anna's father was Geard Seebeck who was born about 1803 in Germany and he came to Canada in 1834. He married Mary Lehman who was born in 1825 in Ontario. Anna was their second of many children and she married Richard Jarvis. Anna and Richard Jarvis were my great-garandparents. So far, I have not been able to find out any other info on Geard Seebeck. I would be very interested to know what is in the book your dad has on the Seebecks. Maybe there is some info on Geard. Thanks again for your info and I will contact your dad.
