On my family page I have a list provided by the Seeley Genealogical Society. Lewis Seeley is down from the first Capt. Nathaniel Seeley...he was the son of Lt. Robert Seeley the first member of our family to come to America. I would like it very much to have you contact me via email. I have been in touch with many cousins distant and not so distant... I extend my hand to all of you out there. I made a promise to my father to not forget any of my family. I mean to keep this promise.
pnseeley@juno.com

I will try. We have an Arthur Solomon in the family who came from Jamaica. I believe via Barbados. He married a Rosetta and had four children. Vera, Geraldine, Lester and Vernon. They were all Gilkes. Vera married a William Archibald Bruce Gilkes. He was from England then to Barbados then to Jamaica and to NY. I know that Vera was in NY around 1912. I am gathering her husband was born around 1888. I would say then Arthur was born around 1868 or 1858, maybe even earlier. There are photos of him in the civil war. Does this help any? I hope, maybe we are cousins some how. I know my family resided in Kingston.
Donna

I am a Seeley/Gilkes/solomon. My family came from England to Barbados to Jamaica and to NY around 1912. Solomon is the mother of the Gilkes. Vera Solomon married William Archibald Bruce Gilkes and came to NY. Rosetta and Arthur are the parents of Vera. They lived in Kingston, Jamaica. That is all I know about them. I wonder if this would help you or has a connection in some way.

Donna

Hi Melinda, My family goes back to my great great Grandparents Arthur and Rosetta Solomon. They are from the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica. I know they came to NY around 1912. Would this fit in your family tree. I am not sure if there are siblings or not. I do know that the relatives a part Black, White and Middle Eastern (maybe Jewish). Does this help at all. Maybe we are cousins.

Donna

I am clutching at straws for information on the Barbados branch of the Gilkes family. My great grandfather was Edwardf Stanley Gilkes, a tailor living in St Michael during the early 1900s. His wife was Christiana Smith and I only know of one child, my grandafther Arthur Lamont Gilkes born in April 1905. Are you able to help at all?

Many thanks.

Give me some more info on this link, please. Like approx. dates for the Phoebe and esp for the Frank in Utah. And a place to start looking up the link myself. Like, is it in a census listing, or on ancestry.com (which by the way I can't access myself) or somewhere else? I have one Frank in my lineage, but he's not linked to the Phoebe I'm trying to identify.

Thx for the hint...

Harry Seeley b abt 1895-1905

Have a few pictures, some known to be West Michigan, of a Harry Seeley. Can't figure out how he links to the family. I would normally try to put him with a family, but I can't figure him out. They are taken between 1932 - abt 1936. He appears to be about 25 in some pictures (in his swimsuit) and 35 in others (in his business suit).
Pictures are taken with my Peterson family in Muskegon.
Patti

Phoebe Conger? Seeley?

I'm looking for any and all info on a Phoebe (Phebe?) Conger, in Michigan in the 1800s. Here is what I know so far, which is not enough yet to satisfy me I've found who I'm looking for.

My ggggrandfather Judson I. Seeley married twice; the second was to a Phoebe Unknown. They were married some time after 1860 but before 1862, since their first son, Harrison G. Seeley, was born 4-7-1862 in Genesee County, MI. He died in October 1896 in Genesee County, MI. She survived at least to the 1900 Census and then I lose track of her.

I'm trying to confirm her maiden name. Her son Lewis Truman Seeley, b. 8-21-1868; d. 9-23-1945 in Los Angeles, states on his death cert that his mother's maiden name was Conger.

But I have not been able to find any Phoebe Conger born around the right time, late 1830s or early 1840s, anywhere. So I can't be satisfied yet that I've closed this loop.

However, there are a lot of coincidences:

1. A Harrison G. Conger married one of Judson Seeley's sisters, Deniza Ann Seeley.

2. Judson and Phoebe named their first son Harrison G. Seeley.

3. Harrison Conger's mother's name was Phoebe (but she's the wrong generation to be the one I'm looking for).

4. Harrison and Deniza Conger had a daughter they named Phoebe, but she was only 9 in the 1850 census, and Harrison and Deniza only married in Dec. 1839, so I doubt seriously this could be the Phoebe Conger I seek.

Any clues?

Seeley, 1879-1955, married Charles Edward Lown, 1874-1953; I have no information about their children.

Roy H.
I find Jonathan Seeley in the 1850 Mason County, Illinois census, 1860 & 1865 Jersey County, Illinois census, 1870 New Madrid County, Missouri census. He dies before 1880 in which I find his wife Mary in the 1880 Butler County, Missouri census. Their children are Josephine, Ezra, Marietta, Andrew, Charles, Loyd & John. Jonathan is my great great grandfather. I come through Marietta. I believe Mary's maiden name to be Titus.

If anyone has any information on this family I would love to hear from you.
I am sorry but I do not own these books, I found the books at the Michigan historical library.
If you do not live near a historical library, I did a google search and found the book is available online through the Penn State Digital bookshelf at: http://apps.libraries.psu.edu/digitalbookshelf/bookindex.cfm...

I did a check of my database and have no Permilla Seeley/Seely.

My only Mills is James who married into the Hagenbuch family in around 1870. No further information on him. The Hagenbuch lived in Centre Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania.

How exciting to have the DNA proof for your family research!

Good Luck in future research.

Jan

Amos Seeley was born in New York in 1805. His wife was Sophia Bertrand (she was born in Ohio but both of her parents immigrated from France). Their son Wallace (wife Melvina/Malvine Swift) was born in Ohio in 1839. Wallace's son Earnest (wife-Mildred) was born in Ohio around 1867. Earnest & Mildred moved to Shawneetown, IL and had seven children, one of whom was my grandfather. Most of the Seeley descendants from this branch of the family still live in southern Illinois, however Earnest changed the spelling to Seely.... Hope this info helped!

If you will write to me at my e-mail address, I can probably help you with your Seeley-Shattuck family. I descend from one of Sophia's younger brothers and have tracked her family extensively. She actually had several children, one of whom moved to Montana. I also have photos of David Seeley and Sophia Shattuck. My e-mail is jesse_crisler@byu.edu

In this book that you have about The SEEELY - GARRISON - FORTNER famlies. By chance does it have any entries about
a MILLS family or members there of.

Thank you.
Am looking for parents of a Permilla SEELEY/SEELY who married a John MILLS B: 1760 Says of Sussex Co. NJ, and had issue, several children.

Other Ontario, Canada MILLS and related researchers says that the family removed eventually to Grimsby, Ontario, Canada,as John Sr, MILLS was a loyalist, is on the UEL of Ontario, Canada.

Why am I asking??
I had my brother do a DNA test, more out of curiosity, than not.

My cousins and I were at best, end of paper trail, so thought why not DO IT.

Found that my brother's DNA results match to that of the John MILLS B: 1733, father to John B: 1760, listed on the wbe site, www.familytreedna.com under MILLS. Category 600 and now 600a has been added. That is, the descendant of that family of MILLS, a MILLS male.

Thank you if you might check your books index for MILLS.
Thank you again.

Pat
cw

Here is what I have on Nathaniel Seeley. I don't have any info on Mary Turney's death.

In 1675 he was commisioned as Lt. of Fairfield troops in King Philip's War and was killed Dec. 19, 1675, in the Great Swamp Fight, while gallantly leading his men over the gnarled log or tree at the entrance to the Indian fort.

Seeley was mortally wounded by a renegade Englishman named Tift. Tift had previously been a member of the Colonial Army but after being justly punished for some crime, and had deserted the Colonial Army, and fled to the enemy, by whom he was well received, and led some of their forces in the Swamp Fight.

Tift was soon taken prisoner. His gun was found to be loaded with slugstones. He was tried before a council of war, and condemned to be hanged and quartered.

The History of Fairfield. Elizabeth Hubbell Schenck 1889.

His father Capt. Robert Seeley was a large land owner in the various towns which he helped to organize, but his son, Nathaniel confined his holdings to the locality of Fairfield, Stratford and Stratfield.

During this period there was an imaginary boundry between Fairfield and Stratford. This line is now Park Ave. in Bridgeport. East of this line was the town of Stratford, while Fairfield lay to the west. The inhabitants of the section to the north combined both part of Fairfield and Stratford, extending from Long Island Sound, north, and called this new parish Stratfield, where they established a new and more convenient Church, which is now known as the First Church of Bridgeport.

In these three towns, Nathaniel had large holdings, and this land is now covered by the City of Bridgeport, and the suburbs to the north.

To form some idea of the extent of his land, and taking present landmarks, it would be bounded on the west by Fairfield Creek and the Black Rock Turnpike, to Sport Hill and Easton; on the north by the road to Tashua, Long Hill and Trumbull; and on the south; along North Avenue and the "Old Post Road" to Fairfield.

The Saga of The Seeleys from Southern New Jersey to Illinois and Texas, Mary Henrietta Chase 1961
