I am looking for anyone with any knowledge on the family of Norah Agnes Sellwood - born Hayes in Kensington, London approximately 1907. She married Benjamin Alfred Sellwood in Kensington Registry Office on 8 October 1927. On 18 February 1929 Norah had a son Bertram George Sellwood and his father was registered as Bertram Alfred Sellwood. Then on 6 September 1933 Norah gave birth to Thelma Audrey Sellwood and had her adopted. The name of her father was not registered. I am the daughter-in-law of this daughter and would love to be able to help her find information about her mother and brother. If you can help me please get in touch.

Would you happen to have anything on Sellwoods in Stroud, Gloucestershire?

My ancestor Eliza Sellwood, my Great Great Grandmother, was born c 1829 in Stroud, Gloucestershire. her father was James Sellwood and Hester or Esther something (don't know the surname). James Sellwood was a Cordwainer or a boot and shoemaker. An 1841 census record shows the family living at Bisley, Stroud Gloucestershire. As well as James and Hester, there are daughters Eliza aged 12, and Hensby? aged 9, living at what looks like Middle Street.

Eliza Sellwood married William Young Hook in Bethnal Green, London in 1848. The marriage record shows James Sellwood as a Shoemaker.

I'd love to learn more about the Sellwoods. They are on my Mum's side which I have recently started researching. She passed away last year.

Thanks, David McMillan, Aberdeen, Scotland

Caroline and I have entered an "off thread" discussion regarding Buscot BRK Sellwoods, Selwoods and Sellards. I have some 800 plus listed on WorldConnect at http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?d...

This includes some of the ancestor's of Caroline's William Sellwood.

Regards, Grahame

Trying to find the whereabouts of Richard Sel(l)wood between 1851 and 1871. He married Sussanna Tuckwell in 1845 and had 5 children - james, susanna, elizabeth, emily and jane.
It is possible he died in 1861 in Chelsea (death registered by Martha Sellwood) but I cannot prove catagorically it was him. If it was him then he would have been born around 1817.
Any help would be gratefully received

I am not too sure at this stage but I think that we may be able to help one another. Are you sure that the second christian name letter is not a Victorian "T" (for Henry Thomas)? The STACEYS, BECKENHAMs, and SELLWOODs (among others) of nearby Tilehurst and Mapledurham were all intermarried at some stage or another in the 18th and 19th centuries, and although I have no knowledge at present of any of the SELLWOODs definitely being in Pangbourne in 1897, and do not yet have Frederick STACEY on my information, I suspect that there is a connection. The SELLWOODs were certainly in all the other areas that you have mentioned in your previous postings, including my own grandfather, Henry. I have a fairly large amount of data on the Berkshire and Oxon SELLWOODs. Please reply privately to historyresearch@supanet.com if you prefer.
Yours
Vicki

I am researching William Henry Sellwood and his wife Eliza Maria Bowles who came from Berkshire England to Maryborough, Queensland, Australia in the 1880's. We are planning a reunion of their descendants in May, 2003 to be held in Maryborough. Their children were William Henry jnr, Herbert Ralph James, John, Charles, Daisy Violet, Blanche Florence, Annie. I would love to hear from anyone who may have information.

There is also some connection between Ella Sellwood McHale and the Sellwood family of Duluth, Minnesota. Can anyone fill in the gaps?

Thank you

Hi, Can you help with my tree growth? I cant get any further back than a great grandfather on the Silwood branch of the family. His name being: Thomas William Silwood b.1868 Middlesex,England. He married Ellen Guymer b.1900. His mother was possibly called Cary? And possibly a brother called Alfred. Is there definately any links between the 2 spellings? my nan spoke of a relative who moved to Canada. My granfather died years ago and the Silwood name will now end with myself & maybe my sister(shes engaged, byebye Silwood surname!). Look forward to hearing from you or anyone else who can help me expand on the Silwood Family enigma!

My name is Robin, I was born the daughter of Jackson Sellwood of NJ. I was born in Sept. 1970, NJ. I have been searching for my father since 1995, on my own and have no luck. I contacted his sister Donna and his father, both who have claimed him to be missing since 1990 or so. No missing persons report was filed. He was last residing in Atlantic City, NJ. His name is Jackson S. Sellwood, born June 10, 1945 or so. I met him once when I was 1 years old, later that year to be adopted by an O'Neill, now I am married with my own children. My contact with my family, my aunt and grandfather is not active, as there is some turmoil regarding my birth. I apparently have two brothers out there, born 1972+, who resided for some time in NJ also. I don't know their names. If anyone has information, please contact me. I'd like to meet my father and siblings. Thanks ;)

Re: William Selwood/Sellwood CORRECTION

I now believe that William Selwood was born in Buscot, near Faringdon, Berkshire, England ('Buseth, Buckingham' was a mistranscription from the 1881 census - it appears in the 1901 census as Buscot, which makes a lot more sense!)

Thank you for your post.
I am now 90% convinced that my William SELWOOD was born 1846, Buscot, and married Caroline BRUCE from Little Whelnetham, Suffolk. I have found William's household in the 1881 and 1901 censuses for Middlesex. The children in the 1881 household match my known family. The 1881 census lists William and Caroline as being from Buseth, Bucks and Little Meltham, Suffolk respectively (neither of which exist as far as I'm aware). The 1901 census says they are from Buscot, Berks and Bury St Edmund's (Little Whelnetham is very close) respectively. FreeBMD lists a marriage for William Selwood in 1866 in Faringdon (which is the district for Buscot), but no spouse is listed. However, I did a search on the LDS IGI web site for Caroline, D.O.B. 1848, Suffolk and came up with Caroline BRUCE. She is also on the FreeBMD web site (born 1848, which is the district for Little Whelnetham. BRUCE is a name which has cropped up before in investigations carried out independently by another member of my family, so putting 2 and 2 together, I have made 8! I could be barking up the wrong tree entirely, but when/if I get a bit more evidence that I am looking at the right William and Caroline, I will try to get hold of the marriage certificate.

I hope this reply isn't too long-winded!
