If you would don't mind sharing your hard work than I would love to see the Seminoff/Kanihan family tree. My uncle had hired a geneaologist and has found some information as well. I will see if I can get a hold of that as well and we can combine our information. This is so great! thanks so much.
Kelly Crandall (Canihan)

Kelly.......Hi........A BIG yes! We are 3rd cousins (1 removed). Your GG Grandmother is Proskovya Danilovna Seminishev. Her brother (my Great Grandfather) is Nicholas Danilovich Seminishev. Notice that the Americanized surname is Seminoff or Semenoff. Nicholas and Proskovya had another brother, Peter Daniel Seminoff. He stayed in Russia, but two of his sons came to America (Alex and William). One trait that is very evident is the height of the Seminoff's. GGrandfather Nicholas was about 6'5". My son is 6'5". My grandmother was a Nicholas' daughter and all of her siblings are tall.

Send me your email address and I will send you a GEDCOM for Seminoff and Canihan. I can also mail you a CD with my father's Poppin/Seminoff book. It's about 350 pages long and tells all about the Seminoff family. After we connect, you can send me your snail mail address.

I use Family Tree Maker.

cuz Nancy

Hi Nancy,
Wow! I have read all of your posts and you must be related to me. I believe one of the Seminoff's is my great grandfather's mom. My great grandfather's name is Alex Dimitri Kanihan. Do you have any more information about him and when they came from Russia? Have you been able to get any russian records? My dad grew up on Potrero hill too (Bob Canihan). Maybe you knew him? Anyway, You have done so much work. This is great information. I really appreciate that you have posted it all. I just started doing geneaology and didn't think I would find anything for the Kanihans. I am so excited!!
Thanks!
Kelly (Canihan) Crandall

Thank you Nancy. I hope this is not a duplicate message. I have a lot of information on my Mom's parents Peter and Sarah Bogdanoff that goes back to 1800 but my Dad's side is very sketchy. With about 10 different spellings of Mackshanoff I don't know if I am related to any of them or not. I was born and raised on Potrero Hill and graduated from Mission High in 1966 so we are the same age. Are you related to the Poppin's that owned the grocery store at the top of the hill? I think all the Russians on the hill are related to eachother in some way, either by blood or marriage. My family names are Rudometkin, Loscutoff, Soriakoff, Shubin, Susoeff and a lot more. Thanks again Nancy.

There was a Canihan family that lived at the top of Carolina Street on Potrero Hill, SF. Karen was the youngest daughter of Bill & Edith; her older brothers are William and Robert (I'm pretty sure). Her grandmother Canihan lived on the Hill until she died, I think in the 60's.

Nancy, when I saw your Poppin and Seminoff message boards my heart gave a leap. After the many, many hours I have been searching for information, hopefully you can help me. I have been search for Mary Halopoff, born August l, 1911 on the high seas coming from Russia. Her birthplace is stated to be Los Angeles and her roots are in the east valley, the locations of which were stated on your board. Mary married Lewis Applegate and continued to live in and around the L.A. area for a while. For instance, they lived in Glendora. Her year of marriage could be about 1930 to 1933. I vaguely remember going to a funeral in the east valley for a woman I thought was her mother. It was the summer of 1961. Her husband passed in 1981 in Santa Rosa, but I don't believe Mary has passed yet because I can find no information on her at all and she had a social security number.

I've given you the information I have, Nancy. I was up against a stone wall yesterday, but maybe you'll be able to pass some information on to me. And, of course, if it all fits, I'll pass on her children's information on to you, if you want.

Thanks so much,
Suzette
My father was Paul Mackshanoff and my mother Nadia Bogdanoff. I was born and raised in San Francisco. My grandparents Peter and Sarah Bogdanoff were very active in the Molokan church. I have been trying to research the Mackshanoff side of my family for several years. I did find a Mary Semikoff that died in June 1995, her father was Mackshanoff and mother Kobzeff but I don't know either of their first names. I just started ancestry.com and feel a bit lost.

Hey, I found this message on accident. My pop's family is from Potrero Hill, my grandmother still lives there. Far as I know they are Bakholdins, the Susoev was my grandfather. We have relatives in Kermin, Fresno, LA, and Washington...but the majority of my family is from San Francisco-Potrero Hill. I dunno if this is relevant to your search...if you have specific questions I can refer you to my aunt, she's really into the family history.

My godfather is also from The Hill, he's a Bogdanoff/Poppin. His mom still lives there, but I'm not too sure about the rest.

I surfed onto this site - was surprised to find my husband's family tree listed! Was surprised to find me and our daughters not listed! I am married to John Jay Eropkin (1949). My name is Linda Elaine Valoff Eropkin (1950). We have 2 daughters - Anastasia Heather Eropkin (1982), and Elisabeth Lynn Eropkin (1985). Don't know that this would matter to anyone, but I thought I'd add this info.

Hello,
You have placed about all the Russian Molokan last names I know on your list, lol. My grandmother was a Baholdin and her sister married and is still living in San Francisco, if that is any help. My last name is Kostrikin, but I didn't think that I was related to Seminoff's, where did you get all the information on your board? I knew that all Molokans were related, but that is alot of names for one family, you may want to narrow it down a bit. Are you part of the Molokan Church, or did you marry-out? Hope you could find more information on your family.

Thank you for responding. I started out with one name and after adding both sides of the family and offshoots from my grandfather and grandmother's family, I ended up with about 9000 names. The Molokans married amonst themselves in the early years and it wasn't unusual to marry your 2nd or 3rd cousin. Everything comes around. I also have information to share about surnames.

The reason why I posted all of the names is because I have those surnames in my family tree maker.

Here is the Kostrikin in my tree:

Descendants of Nicholas Alexander Kostrikin
Nicholas Alexander Kostrikin md. Martha Paula Ivan Loskutoff
Dorothy Ann Kostriken md. Raymond Frederick Luce, II
Raymond Frederick Luce, III
Jeffrey Barrett Luce
Janice Katrine Luce

Martha Loskutoff Kostrikin is a cousin to one of my grandfather's brothers

Another family:
Peter John Kostrikin md. Elizabeth John Tolmachoff
Elizabeth is my 3rd cousin. Her mother was a POPOFF

I don't have a Mary Halopoff in my database.

Here are some female HALOPOFF's who died in the 1960's:
HALOPOFF DARIA V FEMALE US LOS ANGELES 1961 01 28 - 81

HALOPOFF MARY C 1885 08 18 PROSOFF FEMALE US LOS ANGELES 1963 10 22 570141274 78

HALOPOFF DARIA V FEMALE US LOS ANGELES 1961 01 28 - 81

No, this is all I saw on the California Death Index. You would have to contact Los Angeles County for a death certificate. Most Molokans used their father's name as their middle names. When they married they also used their maiden name on the death certificate. For instance, her father's name could have been Vasili (for William) or her maiden name could have been Volkov.
The CADI can be found at http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi

Hi Teri....I have your name in my data base as a Poppin cousin! You're not related to my grandfather's side, but to his brother Elmer Fred Poppin. I show your line going back to William Avdeyvitch Susoeff and Maria Merkell Simion Loskutoff. We can share information if you like and fill in for each other. I have lots of holes that you can fill in. I see lots of Popoff members in this line too.

Thank you for emailing me with your information.

Sincerely, Nancy

Hi Linda....glad to meet you. I have been gathering Molokan family names that are somehow interconnected with my Poppin and Seminoff families. They may not all be DIRECTLY connected, but somewhere there is, either through a spouse's family, a sibling, etc. I'll have to go back and see where the Eropkin's were on the message board. I have update my files. If you are interested in knowing more information, please email me at heisable@mindspring.com. I'll be glad to share anything I have. Family information is too precious to keep to oneself. I'd rather have the families know. Some of my Poppin family members live in the Los Angeles area and attend the Molokan church.

I have quite a few Kalpakoff's (your mother's maiden name) and Valoff's also in my file. Let me know what you decide to do.

Bye for now....Nancy Poppin Posey
Graham, WA

My cousin is Mary Jane William Popin and she married William Paul Bogdanoff, Sr.(children Manya and Bill, Jr.) Is this your godfather?

I have many Susoev's in my file. My family (Poppin & Seminoff) are from Potrero Hill. I was born in SF (went to Mercy High School and CCSF). Who are your parents and your aunt? Would love you hear from them. Dad is still alive. He's 84 and one of the old timers who keep on ticking.

Sincerely,
Nancy Poppin Posey

Hello Suzette....I just returned from vacation. I hope you didn't think I ignored your inquiry.

I'll be happy to be in touch with your contact. Perhaps we can add to each other's tree. I started branching off of my direct Poppin line into other Molokan lines as I found the relatives of the spouse, or brothers and sisters and their families. That is why you will find there may not be a direct relationship to the Poppin's, but rather an indirect line through marriage.

Sincerely,
Nancy Poppin Posey

I was browsing the internet and came across this message board. I've never posted any messages to any message boards, so this is all new to me. My mother's maiden name was Paveloff and I want to find some of my relatives. Most of them live in the Los Angeles area. Also, can anyone tell me about the Molokan Church. I attended my uncle's church when I was a child, and it was Molokan. But I know very little about it. I would appreciate any emails. Thank you. God bless. Pat English

Poppin, Seminoff/Molokan Russian Families

Nancy, I found the Mary Applegate that I asked you about. She is the daughter of Mihail Ivanovich Halopoff, born June 18, 1885 and deceased February 6, 1944 in L.A. He married Mary Kavelivna Sokoloff, daughter of Kaveli Sokoloff and Prascuna Stepanovna. She was born August 18, 1884 and died October 22, 1922.

This information was give to me by William "Billy-Kay" William Holopoff, born January 23, 1936. He is one of the children of Vassily "William" Moiseyvich Halopoff (Holopoff) (Moisey Ivanovich, Holopoff, Ivan Keravich, Halopoff, Kerei, Feodorich, Feodor) and Katsya "Kate" Vassilyvna Kobzeff, daughter of Vassily Kobzeff and Pearl Konovaloff.

All this to say that in his 33 pages of descendants, many of the same names popped up that you have in your family list. There is a possibility that some of them may be relatives of yours.

Do you want me to put him in touch with you? I asked him and he said to ask you first. So, Nancy, let me know either way and if, by chance Mary Applegate is part of your family.

This same message was left on your Seminoff Message Board, but was never opened, I don't think. Hope this information is helpful to you after all the help you have given so many.

Suzette
