Samuel Semple

I am seeking information on Samuel Semple b bef 1800 (believe in Scotland, but not sure) d bef 1864 in County Tyrone Ireland. Married second time to Margaret McNeilan. Not sure about first marriage, but believe children from first marriage were Fanny, Ruth and Belle who immigrated to America before 1864. Belle reportedly died at sea. Margaret McNeilan Semple, 2nd wife, was my husband's GG Grandmother. She immigrated as a widow bringing her five children with her in 1864 and settled in Adams Co. Ohio where her McNeilan siblings were living. Margaret's mother was Mira Stewart (Stuart). Was wondering if anyone out there might have some information?

Hi.
I don't know whether my info will help or not but my Grandmother was called Ethel May Searle. Not much was known about her family as she was apparently brought up by an Aunt.
She was born 1905 (Approx) and I think had brothers and when she was a young teen, went to work as a scullery maid in South London. Married quite late in years to my Grandad William Gittins (Deptford).
Regards
Vikki

Re: Mary Semple, Quebec

Hello Semple searchers: In the past few months, with the help of the Quebec Vital Records which are online now, I have pieced together more information about my Mary Semple.Mary married Thomas Todd in 1836 in Montreal, St.James Methodist Church, both Mary and Thomas were said to be "of Montreal"; witnesses were John Semple,Arthur Todd and Thomas Daneson.Their first 3 children were baptized at St.James, between 1838 and 1841.I then found that they were farming in Ancienne Lorette (Quebec City) where four children were baptized by the Methodist circuit minister between 1843 and 1848, when they then moved to LaPrairie, and six more children were baptized between 1848 and 1858 at St.Lukes Anglican Church. In 1858 Mary died at LaPrairie, aged 41,(thus a birth year of about 1817). In following her children through census data, her son gave the information that his mother spoke Gaelic, which could indicate that she came from the West of Scotland. I know she could not write as she signed records with her mark. Still lots of questions, but I thought I would share what I have found so far. I cannot find an immigration record or extended family for Mary, except perhaps the "John Semple" who was the witness at her marriage.

This is of course a very long bow at this stage to make a link but every thread needs to be checked out. I will do a search on the Steel family to find who were linked to that family.

That has actually happen in a family on my wifes side.

Somewhere along the way in my search the name William has appeared. Maybe I need to do a search to see what family members were in my gg mother's family to establish possible links.

William Kerr married Anne Steele. He died abt 1834 and she died ast 1832 in Glascow. They had a son William born 1798. By 1822 he had immigrated to Quebec City, Qc., Canada. I have well preservec copies of letters from 1822 on from Anne and also William to William Jn. They mention a sister Mary and also Amy. Father implores his son to bring Mary over and she is buried in 1859 at age 60 ib ?Quebec City. William had 7 children and died in 1878 in Quebec City. He was a flesher(butcher) and had a partner that went back and forth across the Atlantic. He visited the Sn Semples and told about them in his letters. Could these be two brothers married to two sisters?

Possible sibling? William Semple born before 1780 married Anne Steele born same circa. He died in 1834, she in 1832. They had a son William born abt. 1798 who left Glascow and sailed to Quebec City, Qc.,Canada abt. 1820. I have copies of well preserved letters written from Anne and from William Sn. to William Jn. The letters mention sisters Mary and Amy. Father asked son to bring Mary to Canada and it seems to have happened as she is buried in Quebec City. Junior was a flesher (butcher). He had a business partner who crossed the Atlantic a couple of times and who tells of visiting the senior Semples in his letters. William Jn.had 7 children died in 1878 in Quebec City. Could this fit into your family?
urwithlinda@videotron.ca I don't think yjis is the e address that ancestry has. My grandfather had brothers Joseph Jr. and Elmer. My great grandfather had an uncle from what I have heard but not able to verify yet by the name of Samuel. I might have his wifes or sister's name I will try and look it up tomorrow. But let me know if you know anything familiar.
Thank you,
Shannon

Further to my post of 8 July I need to add another possible link. William Semple m Agnes Duncan 31 Dec 1863 Greenock, Renfrew, Sct. Son James Semple born 19 Jun 1864 Tradeston, Glasgow, Sct. In the 1871 Census Robert Duncan was listed with John Semple (my ggfather) and sister Ann Semple.

I would be interested in those researching their James Semple in particular the one listed above and what decendants they have found in their search. Does it go back to an Andrew Semple in the mid 1700's.

What other children did William and Agnes have other than James?

Arthur.
I am searching for Elizabeth Woods who married David T. Semple on May 1, 1893. He must have been her second husband because her obit said she was the mother of Ed, Roy, and Bob Woods, Addie Carrier and Maud Cummings and Harold Semple b.abt 1894 (1910 & 1920 CO census). Elizabeth was born in Indiana, she lived in Wyoming in 1889, Canadian and Walden Colorado in 1899 & 1900. David and Elizabeth came from Kansas to manage the Mountain Home Ranch Road in Colorado. She died in October before 1910, her obit is not easy to decipher.

David Telfer Semple b. 3 Sept 1861 PA son of Robert Semple and Mary Weir Wyper Semple.

I can not go back to the 1700's but my great great great grandfather was the first of five Williams that I can trace. In 1822 great grandfather William came to Canada. I have letters written to him by his mother and also his father and two different business partners between 1822 and 1850. His mother Anne or Agnes Steele died in 1832. His father also William died shortly after. They came from Lanark. William, who came to Canada married an Elizabeth Johnston in the 1850's in the province of Quebec Canada. William my granfather was born in 1861 in. Obviously I am interested in anything you find or anything else pertaining to my Semple family.

I was just wandering if you or any one else might have some info on a woman named Margaret Semple. I beleive that she was born in the late 1400's. She may have also have been called Margaret Sempill or Annabell Margaret Campbell. She married either a John Napier or an Alexander Napier. I beleive that her children's names were Patrick, Marion, Margaret, Andrew, and Alexander. Her parent's names might have been Duncan Campbell and Margaret Moncrieff. I was initially looking for the parents of a Patrick Napier but came up with two different possible answers. He had at least three children whose names I have listed as Mungo Napier, Janet Napier, and Francis Napier. I am descended from Mungo Napier, who may have been called John Napier. If anyone can help clear this up for me or give me any more information about these people I would be very thankful.

Thanks,

Meghan Young

Hey Brigette
I tried to contact your Dad, but was unable to make contact. I am in the process of moving and have had some problems with my old computer. I would love to share what info I have that dates back about 1890. Please e-mail me at jthistory@aol.com
Jerry Toepper

I have more info for McKenzie and Aimee. Unfortunately he died a year later in 1891 following "parlor surgery". He was an ADA in Manhattan and served under Fellows, Nicholls and Martine. He was born in Montgomery, AL in 1852. Aimee's family came from France, many were lawyers at the Coudert Bros. law firm. She later married Baron Fredrich Brenning and then again to a dePeyster.
Contact me for more info but note that my email is no longer at adelphia.net but rather cmire123@hotmail.com (I need to update with Ancestry).
