Interested in hearing from any Senatore / Senatro families from Saracena Italy, especially those who immigrated to Hartford, CT in early 1900s.
LUIGI SENATORE, b. April 1881 s/o Raffalae & Rose Maria Senatore, in Saracena. Married DOMENICA DiMAIO and immigrated to Hartford, CT departing from Naples on the SS Manuel Calvo with his wife's brother Leone DiMaio. They arrived at Ellis Island on March 14, 1904. Domenica and daughter Rose joined them in Sept 1907. In Hartford, they used the name Louis & Domenica Senatro. They had 8 more children in CT: Ralph Donato, Joseph, James Vincent, Patrick Raymond, Marguerite Terese, Louis Francis, Leo James & Matilda Marie.
In June 1917, a LEO SENATRO, 25, of 154 Mather St Hartford registered for the draft. He was born Aug 24, 1892 in Saracena, Cosenza, Italy. He was listed as a grocery clerk employed by Louis Senatro at 280 Gardner st Hartford. (I believe that he may actually be Luigi Senatore's 1/2 brother Leon/Leo Vuoto) Leo was married with 3 children.
LUIGI SENATORE, s/o FRANCESCO and BETTA SENATORE married ANGELA TUTYNA and had at least two, possibly three sons: DOMINICK, LEONE DOMONIC, VINCENZO. The sons immigrated to CT and then to AZ.
Vincenzo went by the name JAMES DON SENATRO in the US. He was born 17 Aug 1894 and was 18 years old when he arrived at Ellis Island on June 1 1912 on the Venezia from Naples, Campania, Italy. He was bound for Hartford, Ct and his nearest relative in Italy was his father Luigi in Saracena. When he registered for the draft June 5 1917, under the name JAMES SENATORE, he was 22, single, an a grinder at the Colts Patent Firearms Co in Hartford. He lived at 110 Ward St, Hartford, CT. In 1930, he was widowed and running a gas station in Christy AZ with his older brother DOMENICK SENATRO who said he immigrated in 1909. He is possibly the same brother as Leone below.
LEONE DOMENIC SENATORE, arrived at Ellis Island on 14 Apr 1910 on the San Giovanni from Naples,Campania, Italy. He was from Saracena, Cosenza, Italy and bound for Hartford, CT. He was 21 and a laborer. His wife MADDELENA D'ARAGO had remained in Saracena. [They are possibly parents of Maddelena (b. Sept 19 1913 New Haven) & Maria Senatore(b. Nov 11 1914 New Haven) who lived at 526 Main St New Haven in April 1932 when they appear on the manifest of the Conte Grande which had sailed from Naples, Italy. Leone died of TB in 1933. Location unknown.
There were several other SENATRO families in Hartford in the early 1900s.
JAMES SENATRO, b. 1884 Saracena Cosenza, lived there with wife Rose and daughter Lena in 1910.
Next door to them was a 38 year old widow VIRGINIA MORAINE SENATRO of Italy (immigrated 1890, age 18) and her children all born in CT: FRANK JOSEPH (1892), ROCCO "RAYMOND" JOSEPH, MARY, LEON JAMES (Oct 1897; aka Leo), MILLIE, JOSEPH, ANNE & JAMES VINCENT (April 1907).
