i had a few moments yesterday to visit st patricks cemetery.

here are notes from the headstone (sec 10-170)
vincenzo 1874-1954
emilia 1880-1939
clorinda 1900-1901 (96 alden st. fall river)
fortunata 1901-1902 (96 alden st. fall river)
tomaso 1904-1905 (349 jenks st. fall river)

also buried in the plot:
james E. 1902-2001
wife, alice (st. michael)- 1983

edward 1907-2002
wife, jeannette (guerrette) - 2003

i then visited the cemetery office and requested a history of the plot.

birthplace - beneverit, italy (???)
died 3/6/54

aside from the three seneca children of vincenzo and emilia, i discovered the birth date of one of my two older brothers who was buried as an infant in that plot 2/2/46.

very interesting, this all is!

i thought you'd enjoy the photo.
according to barbara, she thinks the man in the front is vincenzo.

i vaguely remember him, i may have been four or five yrs old when he passed on. i'll check out the date on their headstone the next time i visit st. patrick's cemetary.
come to think of it, there may be parental info on their burial records.

deborah i met your parents, william & norma in the 80's when i lived in so. california.

as mentioned, i know herb, margie and their family quite well. in fact, i phoned herb last night to pick his brain. he has loads of memories to share.

giovanni james seneca would be uncle jimmy, the great horn player, who passed away in 2001 at the young age of 99. i have no idea who nicola was. some of their family lived in nyc in the bronks, i believe.

a couple of our other cousins visited the villages of casserta and aliano some yrs ago, but, they didn't get very far researching anything.

i let you both know when i receive something from russell.

I found some records on Giovanni and I saw in the Ellis Island records that Vincenzo was suppose to stay with his brother Nicola in Fall River but, can't find any records on Nicola. I will make sure I share my tree and documents with you.

How interesting! Thank you for posting the picture. With Vincenzo, is it Giovanni or Giocomino James Seneca, born 1903? That's the name I have, but I'm not sure if it's right. Do you know which man is which in the picture?

I would like very much to have a family tree from Russell, if he's sharing. I've pieced together some info from census sheets when I was subscribing.

Did you visit my parents, William and Norma Brown, or was it my grandparents, Herbert Brown and Celia (Ersilia) Corbi? I guess it may have been both, at my grandparents' house in Baldwin Park.

Isn't the internet great, to be able to get all of this information?

the youngest of the cousins. i believe herbert is the oldest or perhaps it was doris.

i know you, walter! how are you doing?

deborah, i visited your father and mother in baldwin hills. i know herbert and margie quite well and all our california cousins.

anyhooo, i'm quite interested in our grandparents roots, as well. it seems, russell, son of henry and delia, has a family tree. i've recently talked with him and expressed interest in it. then i discovered you two! how funny!

i mentioned this to jill, walter :)

i'll keep you both posted when and if i receive anything.

i have a foto of our grandfather and his brother giovani that russell's sister barbara gave to me. i shot it with my camera, it's not the best quality without a scanner, but, it's something.

so that's all the info i have at the moment to share.
as far as ancestry. unfortunately the elders have passed on.

Unfortunately I don't have any information at all on Vincenzo's parents. If you get any, please do share it with me.

My father says he doesn't know too much about your grandfather Arthur's family. I show him married to Margaret (Peggy), with a daughter (Jill?, I assume your mother?). I have a birthdate of Mar 15, 1910 and a death date of Feb 1982 for Arthur, and that's it.

Can you fill me in on anything there?

Regarding info on the Seneca family lineage, can be contacted in Baldwin, La. at 337-923-7749 any time of the day and if not home, leave a message on the answering machine. The Seneca lineage does not go to the Acadian background but many of the Seneca/Sinnitere married into the Acadian lineage and we have those marriages researched.

Have very little information on Mae Wilhelm, dau. Peter G & Emma. Don't know if the name was Seneca or an Indian. Heard a family rumor could have been Indian. She had children, later died, and no leads on children. Poss. adopted or children's home.

As I write this message to you, I am sitting with Antoinette Seneca Nanni, my mother. We have started the search for her ancestors when we found your message. Her father was Michael Seneca from Naples, Italy. He arrived in the US in 1916 at the age of 18. From what we remember he said he stowed away on a ship bound for America during the beginning of Mussolini coming to power in Italy. He eventually married, Antoinette Vigliotti around 1923, she was also from Naples. Michael Seneca, said he had relatives in Elizabeth, New Jersey. These relatives came to visit him in Clairton, PA the early 40's. Do you have any other information on your side of the family? If so, we would be very interested. Our search ends in America and will begin in Italy, so any info would be helpful. Thanks. Angeline.

Our info matches what you have on your family info. We have a copy of the marriage of Amelia Seneca to Jean Baptiste Theriot in our Seneca booklet. We also have books in our library that covers the Theriot lineage back to the 1500's. Jean Baptiste was married in first marriage to a Mendoza. Jean Baptiste was also related to my husband through the Freyou family lineage. We are listed in the Baldwin phone directory. Would like to hear from you.

My grandfather's brother was Michele Seneca. He and his brothers were barbers and had SENECA BROTHERS BARBER SHOP in Philadelphia. Alexander, my grandfather was born in Italy, near Rome, in 1886. He had other brothers: John, Michele( Micky) and Pasquele ( Pat).

I'm from New Iberia, LA with the last name Seneca. We are definitely "Cajun" Senecas because my aunt and uncle have done extensive research and found that the first ancestor from our family to come to America was from France. Francois Senequir (son of Louis Senequier and Elisabette Simianne) was from Frejus, France. He came to America and according to the research, first appears in St. Martin Parish Courthouse records in 1773 where he is shown as having a cattle brand. He married Marieanne Sauvagin in Edgard, LA (St John the Baptist Parish). Her parents were also from France. The family ancestry then proceeds through several generations and different names. According to my Aunt and Uncle's research, the Seneca name was originally spelled: Senequir, Seniquier, Seniquir. Other names are: Senetiere, Seneghier, Seneker, Sinitiere, Sinnitiere, Sennetiere, and Semicare. My father has several relatives who live in Plaquemine (and also in Loreauville and Morgan City. My father is Roy James Seneca (son of Mitchell Seneca and Lillian Diamond Seneca). Hope this helps. P.S. I bet we are related. I know there are cousins of mine in Plaquemine that I've never met.

My mother was from Plaquimine, she married my father, Clarence Morales Sr. also from there. They are both dead now and I have no history of either of them. My mother Gladys Seneca has a sister, Shirley. Also I have 1 sister, Josephine and a brother Gerald and had a brother Lynn who is not living now. She and my Dad are surely of the Cajun French descent, my father barely spoke any english. Set us know if this will help you or me.

I'm glad you mentioned your grand father's name. There might be a connection; I base my hopes on the fact that Itaians very often kept the same given names in the family for generations.

My First Cousin Once Removed is Carmella Santa Longo. She was born in 1938 to Lawrence Louis Longo and Teresa Bosco. Lawrence's father is my great great grand father Michael Angelo Longo. He married Carmella Seneca.

Carmella had perhaps 15 brothers and sisters, namely Emberto, Civituccia, Anna Vitangela, and, perhaps, although I have no proof, a Santo or a Santa. Carmella was born in 1879, but she was appearantly the third of sixteen children.

Emberto and Ann Vitangela were among the last three children. So, if there was a Santo or Santa, her or she was most likely born between 1880 and 1898.

I hope that you're putting more pieces of the puzzle with this new data.

Since I last wrote to you, I did find some new relatives. As I mentioned, my great grandmother Carmela Seneca was born in 1879 at Pontelandolfo, Benevento, Campobaso, Italia. She is the dauthter of Orazio Seneca and Antoinette Maffei (Yes, another Antoinette in the picture).

Orazio and Antoinette had about 16 children, including Carmella (of course), Anna Vitangela, Civituccia, Emberto, and the others' names are unknown so far. Anna Vitangela had at least one child, while Emberto had seven.

I undersatand that there are still many Seneca relatives living in PA, NJ, and CT. I am in touch with my Second Cousin Once Removed (we have just discovered that each other exists only days ago), who is Anna's son.

I hope this sheds new light onto your (our) tree.

We are definately related. I remember Gerald from when I was younger. I think your mother was my Dad's Godmother. My Dad was Glenn Allen - his parents Wade and Florence (Curry) Allen. There are many records available regarding the Seneca surname. Do you have a time frame for the people you are looking for? A search for Seneca in the Ancestry.com search engine brings up many results. Have you looked there for some of your family groups?

Thanks for responding to my posting. I really don't have that much information pertaining to my Seneca ancestry. Nonetheless, I'll tell you some of what I know and hope that we can make some type of connection.

My maternal grandfather is Carl Seneca, he resides in Bloomfield,NJ. In case you are not familiar with that area, Bloomfield is close to Elizabeth, NJ. My grandfather, I believe, was born in Elizabeth.He had 4 sisters: Margaret, Katie, Mary and Minnie. He had 4 brothers: Jr., Sal, Joe and John.

My grandfathers parents were from Naples, Italy. His father was John Seneca. John Seneca was married to Angolina Corona.

One interesting story my grandfather has told me was that some his family members changed their last name to either Senaca or Senica, I forget which but Icould find out.

My grandmother was born Ersilia Seneca 9/29/1896 and married Herbert Brown in 1921.

Her parents were Vincenzo Seneca and Emilia Corbi, of Ailano, Italy, who emigrated around 1899

She had several siblings: James, Henry, Edward who married Jeanette and fathered Sandra, Arthur, William who married Philomena, Cora, Esther Seneca Sullivan.

Je fais une recherche généalogique sur ma famille Seneca qui viendrait d'Italie ou du Danemark. Il semble qu'il y a eu un regroupement dans le nord de la France et de la Belgique du Sud. Ensuite, les problèmes économiques ont favorisé le départ de certains Seneca vers le Canada et les Usa. I found out through my grandfather that his grandparents were Anthony and Donata Seneca. Donata was born in 1881 and Anthony was born in 1870, both in Italy. I can't find anything else out about them. I know they came hear in the 1890's and settled in Jersey City. They had 3 children, Charles the oldest, Anna the second, and Paul the baby. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Susan - I live in New Iberia currently. My great grandmother was Amelia Seneca/Senetiere. Some say her name was Seneca, church records show Amelie Senetiere. She was married to Jean Baptiste Theriot in 1867. Their son, Louis Agricole Theriot is my paternal grandfather. Do you have an Amelia or Amelie that matches this. Simon/Simeon Smith married 1807 Mary Lester (widow)
also married Polly Buskey, and Kesiah Flanagan.

George Smith born 1809? - married Susan Perry, also possible spouses Anne Lewark and Mary Bonney.

John W.S. Smith born 1825? married Nancy Dixon. Had a son George who married Mary Mason. Also had a son Amsey who was my gg grandfather. (First name may have been William)

Amsey Smith married Frances Butt.

Walter Smith married Margaret Diggs.

Wm Earl Smith married Mary Elizabeth Hewitt. ( My grandparents)

There seems to have been many George Smiths in PA Co during the early 1800's. I have been trying to connect the right Smiths with the right George hoping by process of elimination to come up with the right one.

I think Simon/Simeon Smith was born in NC, but cannot find him.

ANY Smith information you have on PA Co would be helpful.

By chance, are you related to Gertrude Smith Russell???

Both of his parents came from Naples, Italy. His father's name I believe to be John, his mother's name was Angeline or Angelina Corona Seneca. I think Angelina's parents were Stanly and Maria. My grandfather Carl has 4 brothers: Jr., Sal, Joe and John; he had 4 sisters Mary, Marge, Minnie and Katie. I don't have much more information.
