PETER SEQUEIRA and MARY ELLA BURKE

Peter Sequeira (b. 7/16/1877 - d. 1/27/1965) and his wife, Mary Ella Burke (b. 4/28/1881 - d. 11/10/1969) are buried in the Dead River Cemetery in Walton County, Florida. According to the Florida Death Index, they both died in Santa Rosa County, Florida.

Does anyone have any information about when and where Peter and Ella married? I have not been able to find a record of their marriage. Ella first married John Franklin Henderson in 1901 in Washington County, Florida. They apparently divorced, because John married two more times after his marriage to Ella. The Washington County, Florida marriage index on their GenWeb site lists a marriage between Ella Henderson and Daniel Ward on 3/20/1904. This Ella could have been Ella Burke, but I don't have solid evidence to support that assumption. So, when Mary Ella Burke married Peter Sequeira, her last name could have been Henderson or Ward.

If anyone has any information about Peter's and Ella's marriage, I would appreciate your sharing.

hi mary..

my name is deedee sequeira my husband is ronald sequeira, his father was manuel joseph sequeira, his grandfather was Antonio Joseph Sequeira, borned 3-12-1876 d. 8-26-18 in newman, california. from what slim information that i can find out is that Antonio's Father was a William A. Sequeira. They all came from Portugual and landed in Mass. Where the story goes that only my husbands great grandfather and one brother came to california the rest supposedly stayed in mass. but, I have been coming across info that might tell a different story but nothing concret yet.. However, the siblings to my husbands grandfather is said to be:
Josephine
Manuel
William
Mary Santa
Mary
Annie
Joe/ Joseph

As you know the whole Mary, Maria, Marie, name really gets confussing, atleast form our perspective. If this sounds like anything let me know.. I have some stuff but, man the sequeira's is a tough puzzle.

How are you related to the sequeira family/families?
By birth or marriage??

Me, by marriage, I am from heritage comes from deep in the Mississippi heritage, Irish, English and Indian. thats me...
now married to a porteguese go figure... its all good..
anyway,, hope all goes well if we can help each other that would be great..

happy hunting..

deedee
sequeiradee@aol.com

Sequeira family from Rosais, São Jorge, Azores

My great grandfather José Antonio Sequeira was born in Rosais on the island of São Jorge in 1853. He settled in California before 1880. He had siblings who may or may not have stayed in the Azores:

Maria b 1848
Manuel b 1850
Antonio b 1856
João
Rosa
another Maria

He had a nephew, John, who came to California as a young man probably around 1900 or so. I don't know which of his brothers was John's father. We have lost track of this family (they lived in Pacific Grove, CA).

I have heard from other sources that some descendents of my great grandfather's siblings may be living in the San Joaquin Vally of California.

I'd love to connect!

Mary (in the SF Bay Area)

Hi Peg Joanne,
Gee, there is quite a coincidence here! I, too, am searching on Frank Mary Perry, but am getting nowhere. This is Frank Jr. as his father was origionally 'Francisco Pereira', also from Faial, Azores. However, so far from what I have read in your messages--no connections--just co-incidences with several names and places! Or are they? If you click on my name--you will see my messages.

Hi Peg:

I'm not sure if there's a connection here but
it sounds promising. My grandmother,
Josephine Jesus Sequeira was born 3-3-1887 in
Sao Jorge. She came to the US with her
siblings: Manuel, William, Mary Santa, Mary,
Annie, Joe and Tony. My grandmother and her
two brothers came to California, the rest
stayed in Rhode Island. My grandmother also
died in 1951 in San Leandro, California. Her
parents were William and Anna Margarida Sequeira. According to my records Mary Santa
married a Frank Perry.
PLEASE WRITE ME BACK. I think we have made
a connection.

Mary Sequeira

Hello Joanne, I have had no hopes of ever finding anyone who had even heard of the name, let alone a possible connection. Let me explain a few things. Mary was my grandfather,Frank Perry's 2nd wife. My grandmother died in 1914, while my father was
a little boy. So Mary was the only grand -mother I have known. My grandfather was cut off from his family because he came to the US instead of going to Brazil to join the family business. (He was from Fayal)Then the
next thing he did was to marry a widow with
kids. Frank and Mary had 5 or 7 I think.I
don't know if Mary had been married before or
not.As far as I know, I have only 1 aunt left
in her 70's. She works a full time job and
is usually not up to company at night, so it is hard to get information from her. She says her father never talked about his parents and family, so she told me what I know. I may know a bit more, but my PC crashed last week and I have just got it back
and I haven't finished putting all the"stuff"
back in ,which includes my family history re-
cords. I back up all my good things up on disks ,just for these problems.
I am so happy to hear from you,I will try and talk to my Aunt Louise again and see what more I can learn,Mary was her mother. Now
I know some names to mention, it might trigger more memories.
Didn't mean to be so chatty, but I am getting interested in the Perrys again, I came to a dead end and started on my mother's family. Soon as I get my tree loaded in I will send you any more information I have. Thank you, Peg in RI

Hello Ida:

My grandmother's sister I believe is Mary Sequeira, who married a Frank Perry. My grandmother's name was Josephine and she came to California with two of her brothers, William Manuel. The rest of her family stayed in Rhode Island and Mass., I think. If this connects with what you are looking for, please write back. Josephine was from Sao Jorge and Frank Perry was from Fayal. thanks-joanne

Hi Milton:

My name is Joanne and I was writing to Peg also. She stopped writing last year. It sounded like she and I were connected. My grandmother was Josephine and her sister married a Frank Perry. What information do you have on the Sequeira Family?

Peg:

I'm so excited - I'm sorry to hear about your
computer - mine did that a year ago. Mayme
Sequeira-Gallardo-Souza, who is the daughter
of William Sequeira, brother to Mary Sequeira, gave me the information about the
brothers and sisters that stayed in Rhode
Island. She said she stayed in contact with
the Rhode Island relatives. Do you know her?
Let me know what other information you have and I'll try to find out more here. Thanks
so much.
Joanne
