Yep!!!...my sister is Loretta!!!. This is so cool! I am so happy to get reconnected with some of my family because i was born so late in in my Mom's life that most of siblings were married by the time i came along so most of my growing up memories were with my cousins and my neices and nephews since they were almost the same age as myself!! Please tell Greg that i remember my Daddy being extremly close to Uncle Artie (Gregs Daddy). I loved visiting them both so much! I remember Aunti Betty loved to decorate with butterflies. I remeber visiting one time and she showed my Mom and me her bathroom that was blue and she decorated it all over with butterflies!! I cant wait to tell Loretta we got connected with family!! please keep in touch and you can email me anytime at littleshortblonde@yahoo.com.

Hi again!..i am his uncle jimmy's youngest daughter Beckie. My sister is Loretta and my brothers are Bobby, Jerry and Jimmy. I wasnt able to attend the family reunion in Mark because of famiy issues of my own and I regret it to this day because soon after that uncle Juzzy died. Then it seemed the trips to Mark ended. But I remember my time there well. Everyone who ever visited always remembers climbing the Mark dump. I know it sounds awful but actually the dump was a hugh mountain of coal i think that had been mined. From what i remember there was always a cross at the top. Anyways i am so happy we got connected because seems like everyone scattered across the country. Please keep in touch and i hope we can find others through this web site!! Let me know where you are living now...would love to get together some time. Im in north carolina...take care and God Bless!!!

Hi
Do you have any information on the Marcacci side of the family? I think your husbands Great grandmother, mother of Pia, was Maria Clementina Ricci. She married Riccardo Marcacci. Pia's maiden name was Marcacci.
I am anxious to hear from you.

Mary

Hi I'm Beckie's older sister Loretta. Unfortunately I'm her much older sister. I was 15 when she was born. Anyway, is your fiance Greg? If so his dad is my Uncle Arti. Love the guy. I gave as much information as I could remember about the family and she wrote it down. I think she responded to you. When growing up it was such fun at the Royal Ramblers picnics, and all the weddings. It was like the opening scene in the movie Godfather. I loved it and am sorry that my kids didn't have such a rich ethnic upbringing it was the stuff memories are made of. Its funny - there is an Italian store down the road from us and going in there just smells like my childhood. It smells like the old house in Mark, Illinois. So if Beckie can't answer any question let me know and I'll try to figure it out. Loretta

Is Loretta your sister? Greg lost track of you when you moved south. i asked him again about Yachmet and he says from his recollections, that was your grampa Giovanni's cousin and yes, He recalled Uncle Dolphine. He suggested a source to get more info would be your uncle John in Mark and your cousin Dan serafini who was Uncle Juzzy's son and still lives in Grandview. We were pleased to get to visit them and auntie Dorothy after the reunion once then we went back for Dorothy's funeral. we also got to visit Uncle john and Aunt Violet while in Mark and got to walk through the cemetary with the family. If you need more info email me at Ldcraigo@gmail.com or Greg at harleyroadkill@yahoo.com. He loves to talk to the family.

Were you at the reunion in Mark? Greg and I were so thrilled to be able to see many of the family and yes I heard some of the family talking about Yachmet. I asked greg and he didn't remember anything. His mom kept some info too and I checked in that and didn't find anything either. Yes, i am sure you know him, he said the same thing that the serafini siblings were very close and they spent a lot of time together so the cousins were all close. Now what was your name? He gets so excited when we get contact with family while I do the family research. The Surdus, Auntie Dorothy's daughter Linda, and Greg spent a lot of time together.

Wow I have got to start checking this site more often! Yes I do believe me and your fiance are cousins. I'm sure I've seen him before because we used to visit his parents quite often because my Dad and your Dad (brothers) were very close. I hope you get to read my other reply as well. In a previous post someone or possibly you did, mention Aldolfo Serafini I remember having an Uncle Dophine who always lived in Mark Ill near my Uncle Juzzy My sister and I are still trying to find out who Yachmet was. He was supposed to have traveled over with Pia and John. We don't know if he was a relation or just a friend of the family. Looking forward to hearing from you again!

Also, do you know who Yackmet was? Could have been just a nickname for him. He never spoke english and he died before I came along so I know nothing of him other than he came over with my grandma and grandpa.

Wow, how interesting! I had to read your message a few times before it hit me...I didn't think I had an uncle named Arthur but I did have an Uncle Artie. Probably short for Arthur. Did he marry a woman by the name of Betty? I don't know her maiden name but if it's the same one then me and your fiance are cousins!!. Ask him if he had an uncle Jimmy, would have been his daddy's brother. I won't get into anything else until I hear back from you. It may not be any relation but I think it is. If so, I am Jimmy's youngest daughter Beckie. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon !!

That sounds good to me. Where do we start? I have some info. on the Marcacci's but still looking for a connection to my husbands gr gr grandmother. Adelina Serafini. She married Enrico Borelli and he died. She then remarried and had children with a man named Enrico Serri. I have had no luck finding her family but they came from Montese area and I think lived in Sassoguidano or Pavullo Italy. Her son, Palmo Joseph Borelli is my husbands grandfather and he came to this country. He lived in Granville/Toluca area.
Would you be interested in emailing?

Thanks.

Yes, I am still researching the Serafinis for my fiance. Pia was his grandmother. His father was her son Arthur Serafini. I am just trying to start my tree in Ancestry, my original tree which is huge is in Geni and I am trying to transfer everything into Ancestry. I don't know if I have a lot of info on the Marcacci side yet, I have been working on the serafini side but I am interested in sharing what I would have if it would help and maybe you can help with Pia's side for me.

Serafini from Trento, Austria (formerly Santa del Crocca, Tyrol)

My grandfather was Romeo Serafini, born of Luigi Serafini and Maria Onorati. They emigrated to New York when the Tyrol was taken over by Italy. They were originally in the paris Santa del Crocca, in the Tyrol, but it is now known as Trento, Trentino, Austria. I believe some of the relatives also emigrated to Argentin around that time (1920s). When my family moved to the States, many of them changed the name to Serafinn, but it appears distant cousins kept Serafini because I have traced some of them on here / in combination with a Trentino database from 1815-1923. Onoratis would be good to meet too!

Anyone on here connected to me at all?

Becky,

It has been a really long time since your post so I'm not sure how helpful this will be to you, but others out there may find some valuable information in this post. Gabriel Serafini and Giovanni Serafini were brothers. Gabriel arrived before Giovanni (the manifests showed that Gabriel was Giovanni's sponsor for his visa to come to America.) Giovanni died young, and his wife Palma never remarried. This is why you never heard of an Uncle by that name. They had many children which remained in Leominster, except for the eldest son Antonio, who left for a brief period of time. As my mother tells me, Antonio left his widowed mother upon her request, lest he be burdened by raising the young children (as is custom) as the eldest male child (i.e. the head of the household after his father's death.)Palma remained in Leominster her entire life, as did many of her children. I have been able to trace them back to Clemente's father in Italy (one of those EUREKA!!! moments) and hope that you may actually fill in some blanks for me.

Kim

p.s. my email is Chihawk30@hughes.net

Origin of the surname SERAFINI ?

Does anyone know where and when the family name 'Serafini' first appears?
Today, Serafinis are distributed widely across Italy and appear throughout the world.
I have read that the name was historically associated with the Marche and Abruzzo, but many more Serafinis live in Rome today.

Serafini is a beautiful and unusual name.
It is not a surname of the ordinary sort (for instance, a family name which refers to a person, place, occupation, and so on).
It appears sometimes as a first name, in female and male variants, in singular and plural versions.
The name has a direct religious element: namely, it is etymologically connected to "Seraphim"-a category of angles, originating in ancient Hebrew teachings, appearing in the Bible (Isaiah) and later in Christianity .

Perhaps Seraphino was the first?
Better known as St. Seraphinus, he was born in Montegranaro, Marche in 1540.
He became a Capuchin lay brother and holy man, and was later canonized.
There are many other prominent chruch figures with the name:
Giovanni Cardinal Serafini (1786-1855)
Luigi Cardinal Serafini (1808-1894) Magliano Sabina, Latium
Dominico Cardinal Serafini (1852-1918)
Giulio Cardinal Serafini (1867=1938)
Marchese Camillo Serafini, Governor of Vatican City State (1929-1952).
Are they related to each other?

It seems unlikely, but was there originally only one Serafini family?
Please share your thoughts with me on this topic.
Re: Clemente Serafini

I was married to Robert Gabriel Serafini (born in Leominster in 1948) from 1977 to 1989. My ex-husband's father was Rosario (Cy) Serafini, and his mother was Rita Beaudoin. They lived in Leominster. My father-in-law Rosario's father was named Gabrielle. I never heard about an Uncle Giovanni. My father-in-law's older brother was named either John or Joseph. He died at a relatively young age, and my father-in-law took care of his deceased brother's three young sons (Joe, Dickie and Henry) along with my ex-husband and his sister.

Not sure this advances your search, but I'd love to hear anything else you know about the Serafini clan in Leominster that I could share with my kids.

Thanks very much.

Becky Brueckel

Patty, I hope you get this reply. Did your Uncle Aldofo go by the name Uncle Dophine?...I had an Uncle Dophine, not sure if this was a nick name, who came over with my grandparents from Italy around 1922..My Grandmother was Pia Serafini (maiden name Marcacci) and my Grandfather was John (Giovanni) Serafini. All I know is that the three of them (and possibly more) came over from Italy (supposivdly they originated around Modena (???) and settled in Mark Illinois (Putnam County Granville, Ill area)...There was also someone else who came over with them but unsure if he was related or not and not sure of the spellin of his name, but all we've ever known him as was "Yackmet"...I don't know if this helps but I hope you get this and we can help eachother find more out about our roots...Thanks !

Hello...I think we may be related. My self Rebecca and my Sister Loretta, three brothers (Robert, Jerry and James) were born to James and Flora Serafini. James dad was named John Serafini who died in a car wreck in Illinois rather young. Please reply as me and my sister are trying to gather more information. We have a family site on the Yahoo Groups named Serafini. Please check it out and reply back. Thank you for your time...Beckie

Giovanni Serafini

I am seeking information on Giovanni Serafini--born 1887 (Pesaro, Italy), died 1976 (LA, California). I believe he came over in 1905 on the Furnessia. He lived first in Scranton, PA., where he was supposedly joining a sister (Matilde). Within a few years he moved to Wyoming, where he married Rose Bagnell and had three surviving children. He later changed his name to Samuel Sarefield.

From my research of the census and immigration records, there were many Serafini's that came over in the first decades of the twentieth century from Pesaro Urbino and the environs. Giovanni's parents were supposedly named Luigi Serafini and Francesca Birleffi. Anyone with specific info about my ancestors or about the Serafini's of Pesaro Urbino would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I am researching my great-grandmother's family-the Marcacci's. I am currently researching all of the Marcaccis who immigrated to the US through Ellis Island who originated from the same area in Italy where my great-grandmother's family lived.

You stated that your grandfather's name was Adolfo Marcacci. Was his father's name Gaetano Marcacci? If so, he is one of the people I am researching. Do you know what Gaetano's parents' names were? Do you know the names of his siblings?

I hope this message reaches you and that we are able to find a connection in our family trees.

Clemente Serafini

I have just begun to expand my research on the Serafini line and found the shipping manifests for my Great-Grandfather, Giovanni Serafini, his wife, Palma Di Fazio (or Fazio). It seems that when Palma listed her nearest relative in her motherland, it was a Clemente Serafini in Alvito (they spelled it Olvito), Italy. I know that Giovanni went to his brother, Gabrielle's in Leominster, MA. Both Giovanni and Gabrielle remained in Leominster until their deaths. My question is, is this the same Clemente that has been mentioned on this board? I seem to have hit a dead end and am unsure on how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi! I have just started a SERAFINI genealogy mailing list through Rootsweb. You can subscribe to the list in mail mode by sending a message to SERAFINI-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word

subscribe

and nothing else. If you prefer digest mode, you should send the command instead to SERAFINI-D-request@rootsweb.com. To unsubscribe,
you should send the command "unsubscribe" to SERAFINI-L-request@rootsweb.com
(if in mail mode) or SERAFINI-D-request@rootsweb.com (if in digest mode.)

Thanks!

He was a buliding contractor who came to US to rebuild SF after the 1906 quake. Semira has sister(s) in Argentina and may may family here in US as well. They were married over 50 years and had two sons - Bruno and Albert, and a long line of decendents. I can be reached via my email. Any information is appreciated.
