Samuel Sergeant (1854), Yorks to Canada to New Jersey
I would be delighted to hear from you if are connected to or have information relating to Samuel SERGEANT or any members of his family. Samuel was born in 1854, Hunsingore, Yorkshire. He was a son of Charles and Ellen (nee Cutforth) SERGEANT. (I am a gg-granddaughter.)
I have information regarding his life in the UK. I know that the family emigrated to Winnipeg, Canada. They then moved to the Galloway Township, New Jersey (family found on 1930 US census).
By 1930 the family looked like this:
Samuel
Effie (nee Blackburn) born 1879 Yorkshire. This was Samuel’s second marriage, and took place in 1909 in Selby, Yorkshire. His first wife Margaret died in 1905.
Children:
Sidney born 1912 Selby district, Yorks
Richard born 1913 Selby district, Yorks
Harold born 1915 Selby district, Yorks
Mary born 1918 Winnipeg
Charles born 1921 Winnipeg
It is my understanding that Samuel died in the early 1940s in the New Jersey area and Effie died in the early 1950s.
Thanks
Pip
