There are lots of SERGENTS in WI going back to abt 1846 or before. Several of my Sergent/Sergeant lines came to WI as early as 1846(2 years before WI became a state) The name is sometimes spelled all differnt ways but it was originally Sergeant. Some lines moved to MN, IA, NE. CO, and CA. Some went to ND, MT and CA.
