Hi again.. I also found this: http://www.dholmes.com/histories/flores.html
search for "serpa" (without quotes).

Flores is an island of Azores (aka Açores ) - Portugal

here is a small quote:
"Both Jose and Maria died in Flores, he at age 79 in September 1912, and Maria at age 79.

They had eight children: Joe, Ventura, Alfred, Evangelina, Mary, Filomena, Joaquim and Antonio. Four sons and two daughters came to America and California. Alfred stayed in Nevada. "

I know 'm skipping at least one generation but the names are very similar..and if you know how we portuguese people give names to our family members you'd know what I'm talking about.. the names are mostly a mix of father last name as the last name for the child and the mother's last name usually comes before that one...

Great grandfather António Caetano Serpa
Grandfather Manuel Serpa

Hi.

My grandfather's name was Manuel Serpa (no middle names). They were a total of eleven brothers and sisters.
I only met one of my grandfather's brothers.
My "grand-uncle" Roberto de Serpa. He was a priest whom even served in Rhode Island for some years.

Please check this website: http://www.dioceseofprovidence.org/?id=14&uudis=44
It is about my grandfathers brother Roberto de Serpa born on January 4th 1924. son of António Caetano Serpa and Maria Amélia de Serpa

Vando Serpa

Hang on to your hat this may get a little long winded.
My line goes back to Gaspar de los Reyes Serpas & Anna Suarez. Now, they left the Canary Islands headed for New Orleans..(when and what ship??) Supposedly they had to land in Havana and wait until the Spanish and the French war was over. They then continued on from Havana to New Orleans..(when and what ship??). I don't think Anna's husband Gaspar left Cuba. Or maybe he didn't leave the Canary Islands? I believe only Anna and her 2 sons, Gaspar and Francisco landed in New Orleans. If anyone knows the answers to these questions, please set me straight. email bigfish3@comcast.net (Mike Askins)

I've been looking for information on my maternal grandfather. His name was George Joseph Werner, B. 10 FEB 1910 and D. 7 OCT 1974. He had three siblings that I know of...Willie(William)B. about 1919, Louise B. about 1915 and Lester B. about 1912. I have found the 1930 Census online and found that the three were living with their grandmother, Louise Serpas B. about 1867. I cannot find any info on their parents or on Louise.

Please contact me if you have any info on this family.

Thank you.

I also may be related to you. My family is from New Orleans and we also live there. My grandfather's name is Joseph Serpas and he served in the New Orleans Police Department for many years. He was married to my grandmother, Judith Root. They had three children-Terri, Christopher, and Dale. Terri is my mother and I have a brother named Bob. My Uncle Chris lives in Slidell and is married to a lady named Bunny. They too have a daughter but it's been so long that I can't remeber her name. Dale served in the marines and is married to a Phillipino lady named Vanessa. My family is related to Milton Serpas ... also known as Frog...in St. Bernard Parish. I have always wanted to know what the name Serpas means and the origin of it, but have been unsuccessful in my research. If you could help me, I would appreciate it very much. p.s. I have heard rumors that the Serpas family has Creole in it, but I am not sure.

Aphelia Serpas in LA

Aphelia Serpas married Peter Tapie and they had a daughter Emily Tapie, a daughter Kathryn, and a son Dominic. Aphelia was my gr-gr-grandmother and I am trying to find her family. She lived in New Orleans on Constance Street. My gr-grandmother was Emily Tapie who was a midwife. Aphelia Sepas Tapie lived next to a convent in New Orleans.

If you have an info I would greatly appreciate it.

Mike Barwig
