Looking for any descendants of Alfred Setterlund, born in Karlstad, Sweden in 1849. Emigrated to Minnesota in 1868, married Anna Hansdotter. He was builder, architect in Wheaton, MN. Five children: Marie, Henry, Amanda, Ellen, Albert.

SETTERLUND MELVIN EDWARD Passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at the age of 90. He was born in Duluth, Minn., and lived in San Diego for the past 62 years. While in high school, he became an accomplished musician and played the trumpet as well as the French horn in school bands. Outside of school, he played in local dance bands. During his teens, Mel developed an interest in flying. He bought and flew his own bi-plane, using parts from a World War I surplus engine to prepare it for barnstorming work around the Duluth area. He moved to San Diego in 1940 to look for work in the aviation industry. Soon, after obtaining his license as an aircraft engine mechanic, he became employed and asked his childhood sweetheart, "Syl", to come to San Diego and marry him. During World War II, Mel became certified as a flight engineer and helped deliver newly built PBY ' s and B-24 ' s to Hawaii and the South Pacific. After the war, he worked as a mechanic on the DC-3, 4 and 6 airplanes at Friedkin Airlines, which later became Pacific Southwest Airlines. He became a flight engineer for PSA when the company ' s fleet was being expanded to include the Lockheed Electra jets. In 1972, he was PSA ' s first flight crewmember to retire. Mel had an innate ability to analyze, build, and repair almost anything. He was a self-taught auto mechanic, mason, carpenter, welder, and machinist and was always willing to help others with mechanical or home construction problems. He will forever be remembered as a loving friend, husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. His wife preceded him in death, and he his survived by his sister, Sylvia Lund, of Duluth, Minnesota; his sons, Dick, and daughter-in-law, Janie, and Don, all of San Diego, along with his granddaughter, Kirsten, and her husband, Scott Shannon, of Dallas, Texas.
