Hi Chris,
my name is Sandy Smith and my mother Iris Severy Smith Bedor was your grandfather Orrell Severy sister. My mother passed away in April of this year (2009) and was the last of that generation.
Walter and Bernice Severy had a total of 12 children; Elma, Eula, Cleon, Reba, Roxie, Theo,Orrell, Iris, Walter Jr (Bud), Lena, Merle, and Lesley.
I remember your grandfather and grandmother and have a wedding picture of them. A few years ago your Aunt Peggy came to a family gathering here in Vermont and my daughter Kelly really enjoyed talking with her. Where is you Dad ?
The last info I had of him was that he lived in Texas and was in failing health.
My mother Iris Severy was married to Richard Smith and had 8 children; Linda, Larry, Sandy(me), Jane, Jimmie(deceased), Sheila, Jeffrey(deceased), and David. After my father died she remarried Walter Bedo who predeceased her in 1997.
I would love to hear from you.
thanks
Sandy
John PICKETT, Jr., m. Elizabeth SEVERY in 1721 Marblehead, MA

Hello. I have been researching my Samuel WILKINS ancestor for over 5 years. He is one of my "brick walls" and I am descended from him through 2 of his children.

My "educated guess" is that he was the last child of William WILKINS and Sarah BANCROFT who married in Middleton, MA, ~1760. They had several children in Middleton, and then left the town in the 1770's. I believe he is the William WILKINS who shows up in August, ME, in the 1770's and lives there till about 1800. Unfortunately, there is no information on this couple in "Maine" and the only child I know about is Eunice who went back to Middleton.

According to the "Bray WILKINS book," Sarah BANCROFT was a half-Native American, and her mother was a PICKETT. I wrote to the Middleton Historical Society, and they responded with good information in December. The researcher says that Sarah was the daughter of Robert BANCROFT and Elizabeth PICKETT who married in Middleton in 1745.

And, he says that Elizabeth PICKETT was born in 1726 in Marblehead, MA, to John PICKETT, Jr., and Elizabeth SEVERY. I am just finding out about this couple within the past few months, and I have not had time to investigate them further. However, I was told that Mrs. PICKETT probably died young, as John remarried later in 1726 to Miriam ALLEN, and they had 10 children.

The name, SEVERY, comes down a generation, as a son of Robert and Elizabeth (SEVERY) BANCROFT is named, Severy BANCROFT. (They seem to have had 12 children, with another son, named John Pickett BANCROFT.)

I have searched the archives of this Board and found the description of the origin of the SEVERY name. I had known about the Huguenots, but am just finding out I might be descended from one.

And, I found out there is no Mailing List for this surname. (And, no Message Board for this name at www.genforum.com )

It was suggested that I write to the Marblehead Historical Society, and I have not yet done that, but I will try to do that this weekend.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(On Lists for 7 years; now an Administrator for 7 Lists.)

(Is there a need for a SEVERY Mailing List ?? )

Hi Lorri. I just found out a few months ago that I might be descended from a John PICKETT, Jr., who married Elizabeth SEVERY in Marblehead in 1721. I was wondering if you have any information on Elizabeth.

I will post a separate query on this couple in a few minutes.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

Thank you so much!! My cousin and I have been researching this family (M.J. Severy was Margaret J. (Baxter) Severy, a daughter of my great-great-great-grandfather John W. Baxter) and thought we had found all of their children. The last one we found was Amy, born in 1866 but apparantly there was at least one more. Thanks so much for posting this info!

Moses, born 10 Apr 1823, was the son of Archibald and Olive (Holman) Severy. Archibald's parents were Jacob and Abigail (Rhodes) Severy.

From the " Interesting Chat about Severy Hill" :

...Aaron ( Severy - the first settler) had three brothers who all came to Maine the next year. Their names were Asa, Archibald and Samuel. Asa and Archibald took up land adjoining Aaron, but Samuel located near the Carthage line, on Hiscock Hill....

I have Archibald's lineage posted on my web:
http://dixfieldcitizennews.net/genealogy/231.htm

If you want more information I'll search my files and see what might be helpful.

Severy family of Dixfield, Maine

Looking for information the parentage of Moses Severy, who was born about 1823, most probably in Dixfield, Maine. He married my great-great-great-aunt Margaret J. Baxter in July 1850. I have a great deal of info on their children, etc., but no background on Moses himself before 1850.

The newlyweds (Moses and Margaret) appear to have visited a large family of Severys in August 1850, the month after their marriage, and thus were "caught" by the Federal Census enumerator. This is my clue to the fact that Moses was related to them. In the same census household there also appears a Daniel Severy who matches the age of a brother of Moses.

There are MANY Severys living in several adjacent households. Would this have been the "Severy Hill" that I see mentioned in some posts here? :-)

Many thanks for any info available!

Severy(may be a sister) for a genealogical project for our local club - Siuslaw Genealogical Society.
They are both buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Glenada Oregon (next door to Florence OR). Syrus Morrell Severy was buried on Nov 6 1906 at age 75 y 7 da and a Martha E. Severy was buried on Jun 6 1915 at age 83. Could any of these be connected? Our local Siuslaw Pioneer Museum may also have more info on them which I will be checking out shortly.

Re: Severy Family

I've just discovered this posting. Unfortunately I'm not a family member but a music researcher from London, England (hugh-davies@beeb.net). A century ago Melvin L. Severy created an extraordinary electrical instrument, the Choralcelo ("Heavenly Voices"), which was a combination of piano and organ (and more), in Arlington Heights, Boston, Mass., with his brother-in-law George B. Sinclair. Some instruments were installed in private houses and in churches. In 1984 an article on this instrument written by me was published in a musical instrument dictionary, based mainly on two contemporaneous German and three recent American articles, plus his patents; I've also mentioned it in several articles since, and I've just written a paragraph about it in an article for another musical dictionary (several sites on the internet now include a description of the instrument, all copied from one site, that misspells the name as "Choralcello", which was based largely on my original dictionary article). The family moved to L.A. in or before 1920, after the company in Boston was taken over in 1918 by one in Chicago. I have copies of almost 60 patents granted to Mr. Severy for the Choralcelo and related ideas (in connection with a similarly-named company, Vocalsevro), and several similar patents by Victor H. Severy, presumably your grandfather. I can send you further details if you are interested; in return I would be very interested in any relevant information or documents that you or any other relatives may still have.

hi everysevery!

HI all of you!
My name is Preslav Severy and I'm living at the capital of Bulgaria - Sofia. As far as I know legends in my family point as our predecesor the Roman emperor Alexander Severy - somewhere II century A.C. I'm not sure it's true, but that's what my dad told me - unfortunately he passed away a few years ago. I was really surprized to find out there are a lot of Severys around the globe- as far as I know my family are the only Severy in this country.
So - if you all want - you can write me at my e-mail preslav@mtel.net - I'd be delighted
P.S. all my friends call me Presly - for short from Preslav
Bye!

I also have researched my family...to 1640 from the Channel Islands, to Sutton, Mass.and then to East Dixfield Maine. Still searching for a missing link from Maine, to Chicago to the Willamette Valley and Oregon Coast. It has been an adventure but I am still searching for the missing link. Other major surname is Harwood....interestingly also found on Severy Hill, near East Dixfield, Maine. Would love to swap info!

I am a descedent of Cyrus Severy and the Aaron Severy Sr. formally of Sutton, Mass who settled on Severy Hill near East Dixfield, Maine in the early 1800s. I am most curious about how and when Cyrus' daughters, Lettie and my great grandmother Delona Severy Harwood came to Oregon. A male Severy must have come with them as there are Severys in Oregon, but most are gone...Any info. appreciated. It is a unique surname!

Did you get any more info on you inquiry? I believe that your grandfather, Orrel Severy, would have been my fathers cousin, from Rocheste, Vt. (My father is Judson Severy) Did your grandfather later live in Marblehead, Ma.? My father has a book that has in depth info that I can look into it further.
If this is correct, your great-grandfather would have been Walter Severy, and his father Orrel Towne Severy.
Your grandfather was one of 12.
Let me know if this seems right. I can send you info, and connect you with another relative who is very knowledgable in genealogy.
Thank-you
Julia Severy Reed

Yeah. So my husband's grandfather was Melvin Severy. And my husband's father was Victor. So your grandfather was ? Niles' 1/2 brothers are/were Vernon or Derwyn. I only met one of these relatives once in the 1970's. We did meet a younger Burt Severy, (years later in Santa Barbara) but I don't remember how he's connected. We'd like to hear from you. Niles sisters are (1/2) Roberta (Henderson, Vanhooser) Bratcher in Everett WA, Jackie (Lovelace, Szymanski) divorced in Arrington, VA , Rhonda Oneill in Middletown, CA ; and we are in Napa CA

I am the grandson of Orrel Severy and Harriet Lowell Severy. I know Orrell had something like 17 or 18 brothers and sisters. I would love any information anyone may have about this part of the family.. that is my grandfather and his family. It's funny because I always thought there couldn't be that many Severy's out there, but I guess I was wrong! I was also taken aback by the fact the there was another Christoper L. Severy who actually died in 1998. My full name is Christoper Lowell Severy.. my father is Steven Ross Severy.. my grandmother's father was Walter Lowell. Thanks for any help anyone can give!
