Henry Sexton to William Sexton to Missouri, USA and kids-- HELP!!!

Curious if anyone knows information about this family line.

Henry Sexton was the father of William Henry Sexton. William Married "Lizzie"--Rachel Elizabeth Posey. There kids were Nellie, Clarence, Andrew, Bertha, Bert, Roy Sexton, and other children as well. All of the kids were born in Missouri, William might be from Kentucky or from Tennessee. Any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you. (By the way, Roy Sexton is my great grandfather).

Obit of Sarah SEXTON Warren County, New Jersey, USA 1872

Belvidere Apollo, Warren County, New Jersey,
April 12, 1872, pg3

With very deep emotions of sorrow I turn from speaking of busy active scenes to speak of a Departed one. How very often does our ears hear the expression that such a one is wearing away with consumption, such has been the case with Mrs. Sarah M. Sexton, wife of A.V. Sexson (sic), and daughter of David D. Shannon, Esq. She suffered long, all the while bearing it patiently, but at last the Messenger came, bursting the pattern that bind the soul to its tenement clay and She passed away resting her head against the bosom of an affectionate husband, conscious the very last, willing and ready to go. To those who have hope in believing in Him, in whom they have trusted through deep affliction, the way is not dark, and it is only a little step across the flood and they are safe in that Home where pain and suffering is not felt and dying is never known.
H.

Belvidere Apollo, Warren County, New Jersey,
April 5, 1872, pg3

DIED

Saxon—At Vienna, April 1st, Mrs. Sarah M., wife of Mr. A. Saxon, of consumption, aged about 24 years, Mrs. Saxon suffered much and long over this fatal disease. She had not been able to speak above a whisper for more than two years previous to her death.

I'm searching for information on Mary Yates Sexton Henshaw (1862-1910), married to William Pinkney Sexton (1859-1888). These were my Great-great grandparents. I think that William Pinkney Sexton died in Adair County, Kentucky on May 27, 1888. Mary later married William Henshaw in Texas. She is buried in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. Most of what I know of Mary comes from her obituary, her headstone, and bits and pieces of info from older family members.

I can't seem to find any documented information about Mary before she came to Texas. Several family trees I have checked seem to get William Pinkney Sexton confused with either Pinkney Jackson Sexton (1821-1889 son of William Sexton and Nancy Burks) or William Wesley Sexton (1854-? son of Pinkney Jackson Sexton and Lucinda Fenton).

Any help that could be given would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to organize this information before our French Family Reunion (children of Benham Audley French 1881-1933 and Estella Gertrude Sexton 1883-1967) in June 2008.

You can contact me directly at KimSullivan@austin.rr.com

Thanks!

SEXTEN or SEXTON from England, to Ireland, to Kentucky, USA

Greetings cousins and friends. I am a Sexton from Louisville, KY. I have been searching my Sexton roots since my father passed away in 2003.

I have my own RootsWeb tree at http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=sextons but I am fairly certain it is full of errors. I would like anyone and everyone's help in correcting these errors. I would also deeply appreciate anyone's help in finding out the start of my lineage.

I have had help from my mother, who is not a native Sexton or Sexten, since she was alive, and married to my father, a Sexton, at such time as to hear family stories that I never heard. However, she has only been able to provide so much information, since my Sexton line obviously supercedes her own lifetime, as well as my father's.

I have thus far concluded that the patriarch of my Sexton/Sexten line is Dennis Sexten, born in Wiscombe, Devonshire, England circa 1524. I have read that Dennis may have been born in 1512, as well as 1494, and various other dates. I'm sure there may be more Dennis' out there somewhere.

Since my aforementioned conclusion, I've also learnt that Edmund Sexten (go to http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=sextons... ), AKA Edmond Sexton AKA Edmund Sasren, according to PDF documents I have on file, was the first native Irishman to be mayor of Limerick in 1535.

The difficulty I have is that if this Edmond is the same Edmond I have in my GEDCOM file...then my dates are horribly misconstrued.

Please, anyone that has any info on early Irish/English Sextons or Sextens, or even Sasrens, as were aliases, contact me. I am sure I have many cousins out there, with whome I would love to communicate.

Many blessings,

Aaron T. Sexton

I'm at a dead end finding info on my ancestor, Jane Sexton. The only info I have is that she was married to Jess Gibson and they had a daughter named Rachal Maragret Gibson. The family would have resided in Eastern Kentucky during the mid to late 1800s. Any help would be much appreciated.

I know that Nathaniel was from Campbranch Ky (Letcher County) and he served in the Civil War. 2 of Nathaniel's children were Grover Cleveland Sexton and Martha Sexton (don't know if these are his only children). Grover Cleveland was born 28 April 1886 and died 1940; he married Nancy Jane Slone. I have more info on Grover's family and his descendants if anyone is interested.

My great grandfather was Roy "Tex" Sexton. He was a miner in picher oklahoma where he died of miners tb shortly after his son was born in 1927. His birthday according to a military registration card is march 6 1897. And listed on this card as being a nearest relative is William. i found a 1900 census with a William Sexton married to Lizzie with a son Roy born in march 1897. So I'm pretty sure this is the right hit. However, I have no clue where to go from here, if anyone knows Sextons who were mining in missouri and in oklahoma, or maybe even Stinsons anything at all would help. I have old pictures of some of these miners and other relatives if anyone finds a connection with what i'm talking about

She was adopted by an Italian couple Nicola and Pierina Segalla, at 8 months of age , re-named Margaret Rita Segalla and was taken to live in Niagara Falls, New York in the Little Italy neighborhood. She was raised Italian and never even knew that she was adopted and Irish until she was almost grown. She went by the name Rita and married an Italian man , my Grandfather Gennaro "Jerry" John Penque and they did meet and visit her birth family in Rutland, Vermont. She was close to her 1st cousin Mary Rita Dunn Chapleau from Rutland, Vermont and had visited them, through out the years, kept in touch, exchanged pictures, letters and phone calls over the years etc...Her cousin Mary had given her a wonderful rescipie for Irish Stew and also some of their home made Maple Syrup. My Grandmother Rita had 2 children , my mother being the younger of the 2 Geraldine Rita Penque born in Niagara Falls, New York on March 30, 1944..She in turn met my father Augustine Amburgey who had come from Logan County, West Virginia and whose family originally came from the Knott, Letcher, and Perry County , Kentucky and North Carolina areas in the Hollows and they had myself Kim Renee' Amburgey born on January 28, 1964, now Kim Amburgey-Flinn. I have 3 children. I met Edward Albert Hawkins and we had our daughter Dee-Dee Hawkins on May 24, 1980. I later met and married Ralph Leslie Flinn and we had a daughter Vivian Flinn born June 25, 1990 and a son Leslie Flinn born on July 6, 1993 all of which were also born in the Niagara Falls, New York USA area. We have also been searching very hard to find out whatever became of my Grandmother's Twin sister Agnes who has been missing . If she had any children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren etc... as they would be our cousins and we consider them close family. If anyone knows anything we ask that they please contact us at KAmburgeyFlinn@hotmail.com
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Kim R.
Contact wanted with the family of POW/MIA Korean War, Talmage SEXTON of Grayson Co, VA, USA

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Grayson County, Virginia as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: TALMAGE JOHNSON SEXTON
Born: November 29, 1926, Caucasian
Date of loss: July 12, 1950, Prisoner of War (POW)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Sexton family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Warren T. Sexton , 1823 - 1878, New Jersey > Michigan > California, USA

Judge Warren T. Sexton

He was born in Warren county, New Jersey, in 1823, and while still a young boy his father moved with his family to Michigan, and there engaged in building railroads by contract. At an early age he fitted for and entered Ann Arbor College. While there he imbibed a strong penchant for the classics, which led him, during his later years, to study the works of the ancient authors for his recreation. The failure of his father in business, before he had finished his course, compelled him to leave college and engage in the active pursuits of life. In 1849 he crossed the plains with the Wolverine Rangers, and in October of that year came to Butte county. His first and only mining was done at Long’s bar. He was elected county clerk in June, 1850, and held the position until 1853, when he became district attorney, serving as such for two years. He resided at the old town of Hamilton during its period of county-seatship; and when Bidwell’s bar became a favored spot, he followed its fortunes until they waned, and then took up his permanent abode in Oroville. The early records of the courts of that county are all in his well-known handwriting. Care and neatness pervade all the work of his life. While at Bidwell’s bar he formed a law-partnership with Judge C. F. Lott, who still survives him. During this partnership he rarely appeared in court to argue either questions of law or fact. Being naturally timid and diffident, he had no desire to speak in public. He had often remarked that he thought he had left the imprint of his fingers on the table in the old court-room at Bidwell, as he nervously grasped it when addressing court or jury. When Judge Lott did the talking, Judge Sexton gave his attention to the preparation of the case, and it was prepared with the skill of a master hand. In 1857 he was elected district judge, beating Judge Lewis by a large vote. He was re-elected in 1863, and again in 1875. In 1869 he was defeated for the same position by Judge Lott. It will be seen that he held the position of district judge for fourteen years and three months. The last time he appeared in court he was hardly able to walk up the stairs leading to the court-room; but when on the bench, he sat as erect as ever, listening to the argument of counsel. On the eleventh of April, 1878, he died at his residence in Oroville. Judge Sexton was married at Rough and Ready, in this state, November 14, 1855, to Miss Z. Stevens, who still survives him. There were born to them two children, Warren Sexton, Jr. and a daughter, both of whom are at present residing in Oroville. In Plumas county, as in every other part of the district, Judge Sexton was generally admired and loved. His charge to the jury in the celebrated Francis murder case elicited the highest eulogiums from the bench and bar of the state.

The memory of the eminent virtues and abilities possessed by Judge Sexton will be kept alive in the minds of the people, and it will be long ere another can rise to usurp the place he holds in their hearts.

SOURCE: Illustrated History of Plumas, Lassen & Sierra Counties, with California from 1513 to 1850. –
Fariss and Smith, San Francisco, 1882. p 176
Was Georgia ANDERSON b 1880 Nebraska, USA actually born a SEXTON?

Hello, I hope someone can help me. My g.grandmother is a mystery.
Her name was Georgia Anderson when she married my grandfather William Foughty around 1910. They raised a family of 4 daughters in Adams County Indiana.
The story is that she was born in Nebraska 10-2-1880 to a Sexton family. Her parents were rather aged and had to giver up for adoption to an Anderson family.
How much of this is true, or "embelished" I have no idea.
I have no other names and it could have been that she married and Anderson before my grandfather, but didn't want anyone to know.
I think I have found her on the 1900 census and the 1910 census in Kosiusko Co. Indiana. Before that she is a big mystery.
I have no idea if she was in an orphanage or if it was even a "legal" adoption.
She had dark hair and meduim complexion. It is rumored that she could be part indian.
Please Someone has to have some clues or info.

Charles Shadrack Sexton b. 1806 in SC, USA --Kidnapped in 1865

Looking for information about Charles Shadrack Sexton, born in 1806 in South Carolina. He was married first to Sarah Morrip b. 1807 in TN (see 1850 Census for Benton, Fulton Co., AR) and then shows married to Mahala (Mayhaley)Woodall b. 1821 in AL in 1854. Known sons are James Harvey, Charles Shadwick, William Samuel, and Henry Franklin (my ancestor).

Charles disappeared (kidnapped and likely murdered) in 1865 when angry men forced him to show the way to a neighbor's home. Charles never returned, and they found the neighbor hanged. Remember, this was the Civil War era.

His family cemetery is located in Wild Cherry, AR, where family still care for the site though the property is now owned by others. I have a huge family web site and will share info with those I can confirm as family.

Vicki

I found out he was listed with his mother, Vivian E.in Elgin, IL in the 1920 census visiting or living with the Clark family, Vivians family. My grandmothers sister and family lived next store to the Clarks...that's how I think the picture ended up with my family.

Nellie Lee Parrott in Wise County, 1903) I have traced Nellie's family and find no indian blood.

His grandfather was Isaiah Sexton (m Mary Jane Anderson - mother listed as Millie on marriage certificate, Melina and otehr spellings on census, no father listed) in Russell County, VA. His parents were Enoch & Louisa Sexton. They are seen on the 1850 Russell County, VA Census.

I have no information beyond Enoch, who was born in Grayson Co, or where the indian blood came from, though I am assuming it is from Mary Jane Anderson.

If anyone had ANY information that might be related to this, please email me megs14@earthlink.net

Thanks
Megan Sexton
