Seyler/Seyller in Illinois

I searching for information on John Baptist (Jean Baptiste) Seyller born 2/8/1822 in Wittenheim, Alsace. He married Mary Anna Kimmik-Ostenberger. They lived in Mussig, Alsace with their 9 children. I believe his some of his ancestors spelled their name Seiler and Seyler. Does anyone have information on Seiler, Seyler or Seyller from that area? John Baptist settled in Burlington, Illinois in the 1870-1880 time period. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know about the individual you mentioned. In fact, I'm not much of a geneologist and my father has shared almost no family history with us. His middle name is Henry, so maybe there is a connection.

My father did tell us that his great great grandmother (or maybe it was great, great, great) was Native American and that his mother maintained a connection with that side of the family. But she died when he was about seven years old and the connection was apparently broken then. He has no real information to offer.

The most solid evidence I have is the Mongolian spot that my son had a birth. That's a dark spot near the base of the spine that most Asian and Native American babies are born with. I wouldn't have noticed it if the nurses hadn't pointed it out to me. It lasts only a few days. Nothing like that has appeared in any recent generation on my son's father's side or in my family. His father is Quebecois and has a touch of Mohawk from many generations back. I'm guessing that it was the recombination of Native lines that produced my son's spot, but who knows.

In any case, I would love to know who my Native American relatives are or at least which Nation they belonged to. A distant cousin once told me that there was a man named Frank Bloom a few generations back who was from that part of the family, but that all we know about him is his name.

Have just found a Lawrence Seyler (listed on death certificate of husband's grandmother, Clara Belle Seyler) in our family tree. Clara was born in Fayetteville Arkansas in 1888. She had a brother, younger, I think, named George. Clara's mother died in childbirth. Nothing is known of mother's family. After her mother's death, Clara was supposedly raised by native americans in the Ft. Smith area. I presume they were relatives of some kind or another. If this is a branch of your family, I can help from Clara to present (Baltimore/Washington metro area). Sorry, I haven't anything on earlier Seylers. Am just beginning my research.

Re: Seyler and Bloom families of Pennsylvania

Also have Seyler ancester with native american connections. Not verified however. My husband's grandmother, Clara Belle Seyler, was born in Fayetteville, ARkansas in 1888. She was raised by native americans in or near Ft. Smith Arkansas. Clara's father's first name was Lawrence. She had a younger brother George. Her mother died in childbirth, and she was supposedly sent to live with native americans after that. Family assumes they were relatives of one sort or another. However, nothing known about mother's relatives.

My dad, John H. Seyler, is from DuBois, PA with the same story about native American relatives. Have you learned anything about this? The connection is supposed to be a Frank Bloom, who either was or married a native American. He lived four or five generations ago.

My father, John H. Seyler, was born in DuBois, PA in 1922. I would like to know more about were we come from. What part of Germany/Hungary did the Seylers come from, when, and why? We also have a family story that my grandmother's family has native American ancestry going four or five generations back from myself. The only information I have on this is the name of Frank Bloom who either was or married a native American. I would love to know which nation they belonged to and if I have any living relatives on that side. Please e-mail me at lseyler@ageguide.org if you have any information or can advise me on where I can begin looking.
