Hi Karen, could you give some more detail on your SEYMOURs, I have a small connection in Northants but you never know do you?

I have in my family tree two Seymor familes that may have had Devon conections though the census records say they were born in Beaufort, Essex. England.

William Henry Seymour born abt 1821 died abt 1855
he married Elzabeth Harris b 1821, Devonport, d. abt 1855
He was a tailor and lived in St Pancras, London

John Wiloughby Seymour was his brother, born abt 1821
he married Elizabeth Alden Hewins and they lived in Boston, Massachsetts. I think he was an artist as was Elizabeth's father Amasa Hewins.

Their children were born in the 1846 to 1853 range.

The family legend says they were related to the line that became the Dukes of Somerset in the 1920's but I haven't traced it back before those brothers.

Thank you for the reply, but as far as I can tell, none of the names you mention has any connection with my Seymour's.

Edwin & his brother William were both born in Torquay Devon. They moved around the country, can't find them in 1861 but by 1881 they were in Northamptonshire. Edwin was a shopkeeper and Willliam an auctioneer. They married sisters Lucy Lovell & Amela. Later they moved to Birmingham. Thanks for your response, Karen

Is your Edwins mother a Mary born in Ireland? I found an 1847 Torquay born Edwin SEYMOUR in 1861 with a mother Mary born Clon? Munster ireland, yours?

I am descended from Elizabeth's older brother Charles Amasa, that must make us cousins of some sort...
Does your line of the family have any of Amasa's painting? I am trying to track down works kept in the family (from a list of my g-aunts from 1930ish).

It is my ex-wife and my two sons who are your cousins.

None of those painting came down through that family. Part of that may be because there was a divorce in 1919 and if there were any paintings they would have ended up in California with the husband.
