My husbands tree had a Joseph Shackleton whose first wife Elizabeth died in 1918. he remarried, had two more boys Edward and William who then left with their mother to Canada. When i don't know. Joseph Shackleton was born in 1882 in Wadsworth Yorkshire but ended up living at brimrod farm in Rochdale.He had four sons with his first wife. Does this tie in with any of your history?

I have a Joseph Shackleton 1828 -1908 Rochdale in my husbands tree. He had 2 sons william and Edward with his second wife. They left for Canada. They would have married sometime after 1918 when Josephs first wife Sarah Jane Hutchinson died.

I am still researching this family line.
Roger Shackleton born August 1827 Yorkshire, England son of William (circa 1796) and Sarah Greenwood (circa 1796).
Roger married Mary Tattersall of Farsley, daughter of John Tattersall, at the parish Church of Leeds in the County of York Dec 25 1852.
Their Daughter Sarah was born July 13 1853 in Horton, Yorkshire, England.
I am looking for a connection to John Robinson, a miner in Northern California, first husband to Honor Wearne, Roger Shackleton second wife....

I am *so* thrilled to have found this thread!!! My grandmother's maiden name was Shekleton, she was Reuben's sister. My mother, Sue, was just up visiting and read through the thread with me and recognized the name Peter Flint, and says that Caralee is a cousin. :)
I don't have any new info, but just reading about our connection to the Brontes just floors me. Wuthering Heights is one of my favorite books ever, so you can imagine my glee. :D
We're also wondering what happened to the family name, why the change from Shackleton to Shekleton. It seems to have happened in Ireland, not upon immigration to America, so it's confusing.
In any case, thank you *so* much for the info, very glad to be able to find others researching our roots! :)

William Shackleton's are in plenty... I have a William married to a Elizabeth Jane Walmsley... they were in Burnley England and move to Fall River MA. My William was born in 1866... After Elizabeth death he then married a Nancy (Shackleton) Shackleton. Yep her maiden name was also Shackleton. If any of this rings a bell let me know

Hi. I am looking for more information on the Shackletons of St. Catherines, in the hopes of discovering a connection to my Toronto Shackletons. My Great Great Grandfather John Shackleton (b. 1837 in England), who worked in Toronto as a varnisher for Heinzmann Pianos, was married to Annie Chatfield (m. about 1861). Her family was from St. Catherines. I am trying to discover whether they were married in Toronto or in St. Catherines, and whether my John Shackleton is related to other Shackletons there. William Henry SHACKLETON b. around 1863 in England

Hello.
I am looking for any information on William Henry Shackleton. Born around 1863 in England. Emmigrated to the U.S. in 1889 and was naturalized in 1926. He lived in New York. He has at least two siblings: Flora and Emily. He was married to Margaret Clarke, who died before 1902, and had 3 children: Louise, Beatrice, and Florence. He also married Martha Ramsay/Ramsey and had 4 children: George, Sarah, William, and Lillian. He may also have married Anne Walmsley at some point and had Louisa, but I cannot make that connection very clearly.

So my search has hit a brick wall with WILLIAM HENRY SHACKLETON. I cannot find a definete birth information for him or his siters and I certainly cannot find any information on his parents whatsoever.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am commencing research on my ggrandmother Annie Eliza Bastow b.1876, Manningham, Bradford, Yorkshire, UK.

Perhaps, my Annie is related to yours (sister/cousin)? Seems too co-incidental not to be related.

My association is that my Annie married William Craven Medley in 1895 in Yorkshire and had at least one child William Medley b.1895 Bradford, Yorkshire. This William is my mother's father.

Do you have any details for the Bastow family in Yorkshire?

Sorry I forgot to include that. He married in Guildford, Surrey and they lived in Godalming. He had 9 Shackleton children before he died and Hilda then re-married a Burley. As far as I know they lived in Godalming, Surrey. I am stuck because there are many Thomas Shackletons in the 1901 census, all from Yorkshire.

I was wondering if you would have a listing for and Ann Shackleton b. 1869 Clayton, Yorkshire whose parents were William Shackleton b. circa 1821 Bradford and Sarah nee Holdsworth , previously Rawnsley b. 10/2/1830 Halifax.
She is last listed on the 1891 census with her mother, living at Shibden Head Lane, Queensbury and her occupation was dress and mantle maker. Prior to that on the 1881 census, she is living with her mother Sarah and step-sister Emma at Lumb Lane, Manningham, Bradford. Sarah was a draper and Emma a dressmaker. I have Joseph Shackleton born about 1812 Keighley. He married Mary Hanson in 1835. In 1851 He is living with his family and with Mary Wildman described as Mother on the census. I can't find his christening. The IGI has a christening 08 NOV 1815 Keighley but this is the wrong Joseph. Can anyone help?

I searched the cemetery indexes for Ontario that have been completed but I could not find a burial Certificate for Earnest Shackelton. His wife might not have registered his death . I will check out the original indexes myself in case the transcribers missed it. The Ontario, Canada Deaths are for the years 1869 to1932. It might be possible to try and find a local paper report of his death but we first have to know where he died. Ontario is a big province with a lot of daily newspapers.

The following 1881 census shows Earnest at home with his family and the 1901 Census shows him married to Lavinia and living with his in-laws.

The Ontario, Canada Deaths I searched are 1869-1932, so if Norman Alexander Shackleton died after 1932 in Canada I cannot search for him due to privacy laws.

Norman Alexander Shackleton was born in the city of Toronto, York County, in the Province of Ontario.

The only newspaper for Ottawa I can search is the
The Ottawa Citizen and it only has a searchable database back to 1985. Prior to that date, microfilm copies of the Ottawa Journal and the Ottawa Citizen newspapers are available through the Library and Archives of Canada to any public library in Canada that has inter library loan and microfilm readers. I live in a small town a long way from Ottawa and our library does not have any microfilm readers. Sorry I can't help.

I saw your post on Ancestry .ca as I was researching Ernest Shackelton and Lavinia Miller. They are connected to my family through marriage.

Earnest died 8 Mar 1907 and I am trying to find his death certificate. He was buried in Ottawa, Ontario in Beechwood Cemetery.
The tombstone reads:
In Loving memory of Earnest Shackleton native of Bradford Yorkshire County England died 8 Mar 1907 aged 30 years "Thy will be Done" (stone 4)

He is buried with his wife's Aunt and uncle who also came to Canada from Bradford.
In loving memory of Edward Kitcheman native of Bradford Yorkshire England died 12 April 1910 aged 64 years, "abide with me."
His wife Mary Ann Rainstrick died 13 Jan 1913 aged 68 years, "Forever with the Lord"

Edward Kitcheman and Lavinia's mother Emma were brother and sister.
I have more information on this family if you are interested.

I searched the cemetery indexes for Ontario that have been completed but i could not find a burial for Norman Alexander Shackelton or his wife Edith Annie Bastow. As the indexes are not complete yet they still may have come to Canada.

I am looking for a Joseph and Clara Shackleton. They were neighbors to Minnie Kollmeyer in Quincy, Ill. Clara's name is on Minnie's death certificate. I have also found a picture of a house in an old album that says on back: Henry Shackleton home in Yankton, S.D. Henry, Margaret, Alvin and Clarence were Joseph and Clara's children. It seems to me the Shackletons and Kollmeyers were good friends. Just trying to find info on Kollmeyers and Stockton They might have known.

I live in Haworth and my Grandmother was Shackleton she was Emma born 1877 her Father was James born 1849 and i believe is father was Samuel born 1819. The cause of death fits in with the story that has passed down the family that Ernest was killed in an accident in a sawmill. Trying to find any descendants of my great-uncle Ernest Shackleton b 1877 Bradford, England and his wife Lavinia Miller. Ernest died in Canada (date unknown) and Lavinia and Norman returned to England. Norman married Edith Annie Bastow in 1930s in Bradford but may have returned to Canada.

Thank you so much for getting in touch. We have been trying to find out what happened to Ernest for many years - all we knew was that he was killed in a sawmill accident in Canada (i.e no place and no date)and because I didn't know the place or date all efforts to find him have failed. If you manage to find his death certificate please let me know as I would also like to get a copy. Given the nature of the accident, I wondered whether a report (or a report of the inquest) might have been in the local paper, but as I'm in England I wouldn't know where to look. If you are in Canada you might have some ideas.

James Shackleton (b1896) married to Emily Young (b1899)

Can anyone help me find some details on the above? James and Emily are my grandparents on my Mothers side. I have managed to trace my grandmothers side, but i am having alot of difficulty with my Grandfathers side.

On the 1871 census, its giving my Grandfathers mother as Maggie Shackleton born 1866, NO father, but a MRS Lawless as being the MOTHER, so i'm guessing that is Maggie's mother. James was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, Maggie was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, and MRS Lawless in Ireland.

John SHACKLETON born 1822 in Haworth

I am looking for a John Shackleton born 1822 in Haworth with the father named Joseph. He married Margaret Pickles 1843.

The children were Elizabeth 1845, Mary Ann 1847, Joseph 18/51 and William 1855.

Could someone please help with the birth of John?

They had eight children. 2 died in infancy. Three died in Utah as did Susannah and three died in UK. Among the latter was William Bramwell S. my ggrandfather.

I think there is a Cornell link with Susannah Isacke (b1797)who married John Shackleton (b1793) c1820. They had a daughter Ann(ie) (b1840) and possibly another 8 children of which one William Bramwell might be my gggrandfather.
