I show William and Jane to have 10 children, I have no dates on them except my relative, Clay. I think I got the info from my cousin whois also working on our family tree. William died under mysterious circumstances after an altercation over a saw belonging to a neighbor. I'll have to send you the newspaper story. Let me see what I can find on the kids' dates and try to verify I have the correct Jane (since you mentioned there are two) the one I have has David and Esther as parents. I'll try to post info later today. The story will come from an email name yipee_jj

I have a little information on Jane Parker Shaft that my mother gave me. She had been working on the genealogy of the Parker family up until she passed away two years ago 10/21/2005. Jane Parker Shaft was the sister to my great great Grandfather Edward Parker. Jane Parker Shaft once lived about two miles north of where I live in Howell, Michigan. Have you ever attended any Shaft reunions? There was one in Perry, Mich. last summer, but I did not attend. Sent information of my mother's (Martha Hosley Baird Musson) death, and some family pictures that I thought Shaft members would be interested in, but never heard from anyone. Kind of disappointing. Jane Parker Shaft had 5 siblings-Lorenzo C. Parker b.5/15/1823-d.8/6/1857, Edward Parker b.3/18/1826 d.11/30/1896, William Parker b. 5/27/1830, died very young and was buried in New York State, *Jane Parker b. 5/19/1832 d. 10/15/1904, Lucinda Parker b. 7/23/`834 d. 8/18/1851. There seems to be two Jane Parkers in that family. They were children of David B. Parker and Esther (Bliss) Parker b. 10/11/1796. They were married Aug. 6, 1818. Her parents were Ebenezer Bliss (4/29/1767-9/11/1839) and Rosannah Paterson (birth unknown died 8/3/1839). Esther Bliss married David Parker in Leyden, Massachussetts. They moved to Michigan in 1834. David was a farmer. David was born in Broome County, New York. Does this information help you? What were Jane and William Shaft children's names? They moved to Clements, Kansas when? I see they had 10 children. Jane Parker Shaft died in 1903, and William died in 1857. I see he drowned in Silver Creek, Chase County, Kansas. kjlid4@yahoo.com

Jane Parker Shaft

I am trying to connect the Shafts from Shaftsburg, Michigan with the Shafts from the Chase County, Kansas area. My branch of the Shaft relation goes through Jane Parker Shaft who was from the Howell, Mich. area but moved to Kansas with her husband William C. Shaft in April 11, 1857. She was a sister of my Great Great Great Grandfather Parker. Does anyone have a tree of the Shaft family they would like to share? My mother had attended the family reunion in Kansas years ago and now she is gone and a reunion card was sent this month and is being planned for June 24th of this year '07 in Perry, Michigan. Would like to go, but I do not know enough about the connections to feel I should. Can anyone help? Kathy Liddy

My husband only barely knows his cousins in Atlanta who are Theodore Miltons grandchildren. It was one of them who gave me a copy of the obit. Have you tried getting in touch with any of Chesters grandkids I assume who live in Louisville. My mother-in law Ruth Shaft who is 83, remembers her mothe in law Charles wife ,taling about Aunt Bessie in the 1950's. Happy holidays to you to. Cindy

Happy Holidays and thank you for replying to my posting. The information you provided has confirmed alot of circumstantial findings for me. That line of my tree is foreign for me because Alice Shaft was my paternal grandmother and had givin my father up for adoption in her late 30's.

Would their be anyway to receive a e-mail copy of Henry's Obit.? I have bits and pieces but not alot of actual paper artifacts.

K.C.
Louisville, Ky
Whoops, Made a mistake. Annie Mullen married Henry C Underwood,a railroad worker, who was from Kentucky and moved to Atlanta with Theodore.. Here's most of the family history I know, some from census and the 1934 obit of Henry Shaft. The obit reads Christopher Howard Shaft died July 9, 1934. He had been a printer for Moore and Langdon printing company and editor of the Herald Hartford Kentucky. He started out as a printer and an actor on steamboats.Henry was born in Lockport New York and moved as a child to Kentucky. He married Annie Mullen on June 3 1869 at St pauls Episocal Church in Louisville Kentucky. He divorced her in and married Mayme Kroener in 1880 who was from Bavaria. SHe had 5 daughters. Mayme and Gertie born in Montana 1870,1873 then Rosa, Eva then Bessie. I think Eva and Bessie were Henrys. In 1892 Gertie, Henry, Mayme and Rose were living in Tere Haute Indiana. I hope this helps.
Hi Alice, I am married to Chris Shaft of Atlanta Ga. I believe I am a relative who has been doing genealogy research for fun. Chris is the son of Jack Shaft who is the son of Charles Shaft who's brother is Chester and father is Henry Shaft from Niagra New York. I have Henry
aka as Christopher Howard Shaft's Obit. Charles, Chester, Theodore Milton Shaft were all born in Kentucky. Henry lived with Chester and family Essie,Alice L, William and Henry in Kentucky in the 1930 census. Henry's first wife was Annie Muellen who I believe was Chester's mother. He divorced her in 1880 and married Mayme Kroener and adopted her 3 girls. Mayme married a Henry Underwood and moved to Atlanta with Theodore Milton who was the youngest brother

If you are interested, I have a picture of Hazel and my mom, taken about 1912. It is framed and hangs in my living room. It is a wonderful old picture. I have found some info on the Shaft family but most don't know about Hazel. You can find a listing for Oakplains Cemetery on line.
Hi, I am descended from William C Shaft, John Peter Shaft's younger brother. Their parents were Elizabeth Loop and Peter Shaft/Schaff. Would love to hear from you. When I was a teenager, went to several of the Shaft Reunions in Shaftsburg and at Mike Shaft's place. My Shafts went from the Livingston Co., area down to Chase Co Kansas in the 1850's.
Have quite a bit of info on Elizabeth Loop's ancestry; not too much on Peter Shaft, but some.
Laurie Shaft
Vallejo, CA

My great-grandfather was Sylvester Shaft, a son of Henry Shaft and Samantha Oaks. Henry was a son of Peter Schaaff (Shaft) and Elizabeth Loop (Loep) and a brother of John P. Shaft. I have no info. whatsoever on Sylvester's wife, Della Mann. In the Social Security Index her given name is spelled Deila. I used to live in both Flint and Lansing and drove by Shaftsburg so many times not knowing that I was indeed related. Sylvester and Della had two sons, Guilford (b. 1898 and my grandfather) and Glen, who was a few years younger.
Guilford married Thelma Commins of Owendale and had my father, Kenneth A. Shaft. Ken married Adeline Borg and had me, Cheryll Lee Shaft (Peterman) and my brother, Kerri Stephen. Della is my only true mystery. I only know she was born around 1873, I'm supposing in Michigan. No idea who her parents were or if there were siblings.

I can't believe none of us have really answered your question!!! Hazel's mother was Mary E. Brooks. She was born Sept 22, 1848 in Orange Township, New Jersey. Her death was Nov. 15, 1931 in Michigan. Married March 11, 1866 to William Henry Shaft.
So there is answer.
Jean

Hazel is my grandmother. Do you know who John Peter's parents are? I know that he was born in New York, and moved to Michigan. I have names of 15 of his 27 children (4 wives) I have the names of two of the wives and a newspaper picture of the home in Shaftsburg (It's from 1966) Hazel died when my mother (Thana Margarite Spangler) was 18 years old of tuberculosis. I don't know Hazel's birthdate, but know an approximate death date and where she is buried (Oakplains Cemetery, Shaftsburg, Shiawassee County, Michigan. What else can you share? She married Allen J. Spangler. The Spangler family lived primarily in and around Perry, Michigan, but don't know where they came from.
Thanks
Jean
