Hi,
I saw your last few messages. I'm also researching the name SHAMES. The earliest known immigrant was Israel Shames Sara Fraida (sp?) in the late 1800s, likely from modern-day Latvia near the German border. Most of the family came to Iowa and then spread out to Chicago by the 1930s. Is either of you related to the Shames family in Westport, CT?
