Alfred and Caty Sharp (Alamance Cty.,NC)

I need infomation on the Sharp(e) family Of Alamance. My GGGrandfather was Alfred Sharp (Feb. 2, 1817/ Mar. 16. 1908). He lived in Alamance Cty. (Coble's township) I don't know his father's or mother's name. He may have had a bother named Jacob Sharp or at least Jacob was a close friend. Alfred married Caty (could have been Catherine) Sharp. Their marriage license was issued on Dec. 3, 1838 (no mention of the actual date of marriage). The license was wittnessed by Jacob Sharp.
Alfred and Caty's children were Anderson, Daniel, Edmond, Isaac, Thomas, William, Albert, Mary.
My great grandfather was Albert Sharpe (notice the e). I know this is Alfred's son due to a marriage license with Alfred and Caty's name on it. He married Anderson Payne's daughter, Julia on Jan.15, 1878. The witness was Isaac A Sharp.
As far as Children of Albert and Julia there were 3or4 sons. One is my grandfather, Cletus Pomp Sharpe, and I believe one of the others was Jim or James.
Special note: Alfred and two of his sons served in the Confederate Army. Alfred- 2nd LT. 73rd NC troops Senior Reserves, Anderson- Prt. Co. H, 15th NC Troops, and Daniel- Co F, 6th. NC troops (part of the Bloody 6th).
Any help is need and will be appreciated.

Hi,

I am the granddaughter of Essie Aila Sharpe b. 1892 in Cross County, Arkansas daughter of John William Lafayette "J.W.L or Willie" Sharpe b. 1861 Hardeman County, Tennessee son of John Ezra Alexander (J.E.A.) Sharpe b. 10 Aug 1835 (believe Iredell County) North Carolina son of Ezra A. (E.A.) Sharpe b. abt 1806 (iredell County) North Carolina m. Asceneth King.

I am looking for sources to link Ezra A. Sharpe to his parents and to Asceneth King. The 1850 Census shows him in Hardeman County w/o a wife.

I read in an old rootsweb message of a book: "The Family of John Sharpe, Rev Soldier", written by Mildred Miller back in 1976." Does anyone know if this is still available. Does anyone know how to obtain a copy.

I see other family trees linking Ezra Alexander Sharpe to father Silas Sharpe and mother Sarah Davidson. I am looking for source information to confirm.

Thanks

My grandmothr, Ellen Sharpe-Bourdess, came to Pennsylvania (Jefferson County/Cambria County) when she was 7, around 1904. She came with her mother, Mary Devlin-Sharpe, from Scotland. Her dad was James Sharpe and she had several brothers and sisters. I am hoping to find the descendents of some of her siblings. There was a Terence and a James, and I believe a Richard. I don't know if their father, James, came to the US, but Mary died in Cambria County and I'm trying to find where she is buried.

A very kind lady from florida contacted me several years ago, from Florida, and I seem to have lost her contact information. I have learned a few things since then, and hope to share what I have.

Re: Joseph Cannon b 1777 (to James & Margaret Alexander Cannon) and wife Polly

I'm interested in finding someone who may know Joseph's wife, Polly's, maiden name. I believe that the marriage bond just says Polly Cannon but her tombstone says Mary S Cannon. I have something that indicates that her maiden name could be Sharp. Anyone doing research on this family have thoughts on this?
In his will dated 5 October 1788, Mecklenburg County, Robert Henderson (born about 1750) appoints his "cousin" John Sharpe as his executor. Does anyone know how the two men were related? I haven't been able to find anything connecting the Sharpe and Henderson families of Mecklenburg. Any input would be greatly appreciated

I am searching for my biological father. His name is/was Leslie Jack Sharpe. I have very limited information, but here it is. He lived in Wyoming in 1967, workin I belive as a cab driver. He would have been born probably between 1925 and 1940. He had tatoo's of love on one hand and hate on the other. He was raised by his grandparents I believe in Pennsylvania but I am not sure. I know he was married at the time of my birth and had a child again I think in Penn. It is my understanding he may have served some time in the judicial system as well. Any info on this person or potential relatives are greatly appreciated.
I am looking for any record (Bible record will work) that links Priscilla Sharpe (1Sept1750-13May1838 wife of Lewis Jetton) to her mother Jemima Alexander Sharpe. There are many websites that lists this as fact but no sources as to where the information originated. Does anyone know of ANY record that would contain the fact that Priscilla is indeed Jemima's daughter?
POW/MIA Korean War, SHARPE

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Alleghany County, Virginia as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: ALIN LEE SHARPE
Born: October 19, 1928, Caucasian
Date of loss: November 30, 1950, Missing in Action (MIA)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Sharpe family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Reuben Sharpe, Sr., an early settler of Erie Co., was born in North Walsham, Eng.; was in the U. S. Navy in the war of 1812 under Com. McDonough, and was wounded at the battle of Plattsburg. In early life he was a sailor; he settled on the farm now occupied by his son in 1816, and reared a family of five children. He died in 1851, his widow following him in 1875. Our subject enlisted, first for three months' service in McLane's Regiment of Erie; then, in Aug. 1861, he re-enlisted in the 83d P. V. I., Co. E, and served in the 5th Corps, Army of the Potomac. He took part in the seven days' fight at Yorktown, Sharpsburg, Gettysburg, and in a skirmish at North Ann River was wounded in the right foot. He also participated in the battles of the Wilderness, Chancellorsville, and many minor engagements. He was honorably discharged in 1865 at the close of the war. Our subject married, in 1866, Mrs. Emma A., widow of Richard Cross, who was a Captain in the 111th P. V. I., served about one year, and died in the fall of 1865. Mrs. Sharpe has two children by her first husband -- Louis G. and Katie B. Mr. Sharpe owns forty acres of well-improved land, a part of his father's old homestead. He is a member of the F. A. M., and the G. A. R.; he receives a pension from the Government.

Hi

It is time I posted my interests in the hope that I can get back further, fill in some of the blanks, and maybe meet an odd cousin along the way.

My eldest Sharpe is my 6th gg father on my paternal side, FRANCIS SHARPE who married a Mary. They had 10 children between 1749 and 1759. We think that they came from the Stamford area, as this is where their children were born.

Their son, JOHN SHARPE was born in Stamford in 1759 and married Elizabeth WOODWARD there in 1784. We know of 3 children.

Their daughter ELIZABETH SHARPE born Stamford 1786, married ROBERT HILL of Crowland, in Stamford in 1805. We know of 2 children.

I would love to add to this data and will be pleased to reciprocate.

Regards
Steve

Hello fellow researchers

Please allow me to introduce myself as the Administrator for this board. I have been researching this family for a number of years and have enjoyed the assistance of others, both on and off this board. I do not profess to be the most knowledgeable researcher but will do all I can to see that you get what assistance is available.

Rules for using the board are brief and simple. Please enjoy it, be courteous to others, help where you feel that you can, be patient with newcomers and above all please stay within the Rootsweb guidelines.

IMPORTANT:
Please, please, please, always post your requests with any other surnames highlighted in capital [upper case] letters in the subject line as this makes it so much easier for readers to spot likely matches and actually read your message.

Lets get the board going again with a general 'where I am back to' in my research. Just email your earliest family member and see if others can help you get back further.

Happy hunting
Steve Syddell
Admin.

George W. Sharpe, MO > California

George W. Sharpe,

a Missourian by birth, was engaged in the saloon business at Rich bar, east branch, in 1852. He left the river in the fall, and came to American valley, where he resided when the first election occurred in April, 1854. Sharpe was the successful candidate for sheriff. He was re-elected in the fall of 1854, for a full term. In common with many others, Sharpe was addicted to gambling, and early in the spring of 1855 it became rumored that he was not paying into the treasury the revenue he collected from foreign miners’ licenses. An investigation being ordered, he absconded early in July. Though it was afterwards learned that he had made a clandestine visit to his family in May, 1856, his whereabouts were never ascertained. In 1859 his wife applied for a divorce from him, on the ground of desertion, which was granted, and she afterwards married Elisha H. Pierce.
John/James Sharpe / Jemima Alexander

I am finding that there are differing opinions as to the name of the husband of Jemima Alexander b Jan 9, 1726/7 (sister of Hezekiah, daughter of James Alexander and Margaret McKnitt). Most records (DAR, various books, internet research) agree that they married about 1744, but there seem to be varying opinions on whether her husband's name was James or John Sharp. Her tombstone in Sugaw Creek Cemetery in NC says she was the widow of James. (When was it placed?) But many others say the husband was John. I descend from their son James who married Rachel Cannon. I've seen very little primary source info that identifies the husband by name. One source says John and one says James, I've even seen one source that says his name was Thomas Sharp. Would anyone be willing to share their view and identify their source? Birth and death info for both names seem to be the same. It's just the name that varies--my guess is that John and James Sharp were brothers. I believe their parents were Thomas Sharp, Sr and Isabel Wallace. The Alexander and Sharp's were important familes during the Revolution and I'm hoping someone has primary source information or can at least tell me where to go to get it. I'm cross posting to Alexander board and Sharp board. Thank you, Kaye

Not only was Christina my husband's 3rd gr-grandmother, but she was also the sister of my husband's 4th gr-uncle, Jesse Corley.

Francis and Christina had a daughter named Eleanor Elizabeth Sharpe. She married William Henry "Henry" Roland, Sr. She is buried off of Old Barnwell Road near Roland Road.

Anyone connect with this Sharpe/Roland family?

-Dana
