Shari,
yes, you're right we have spoken before. My girlfriend,Eileen Sarver, is Mabel Barger's grandaughter from her daughter Mabel Cahill. We live Oakland not far from Pitt. I was contacted by a woman from the UK named Wilma Bate. She is doing ancestry research for her friend. As it turns out, her friend is descended from Deborah Jeff, Eliza Jeff Sharpless' sister. Their mother is Rosa Adams Jeff...known as Maria Jeff, and also Rose Jeff. Do you still have access to ancestry? I have made huge additions to the pre-US info for the Jeff/Adams family. This woman in the UK has said she will help on the Sharpless end also.

So your Mom(?) and Eileen's Mom, Mabel would be first cousins. Their mom's would have been sister's correct?? Is it possible for you to scan the picture of Lena and Howard???Or do you have it in your site? If there is away for me to get a copy please let me know.If you want,I will invite you to our ancestry site.Just lemme know.
Any family you can share would be great.I look forward to hearing from you.
Rich

I have the book: Genealogy of the Sharpless Family : 1682-1882. Published for the family under the supices of the Bi-Centennial Committee, Philadelphia, in 1887. It was compiled by Gilbert Cope of West Chester, Pa. It was handed down to me through four generations. Are there any other published books going back further than 1682...of those who were descended from John and Jane Sharples?

Sharpless Genealogy book to give away

I have a copy of the 1887 Genealogy of the Sharpless Family by Gilbert Cope that I would like to give to someone who will appreciate it. It is a huge book - four inches thick, so adopting it is no small committment of shelf space. I know it is available on HeritageQuest, but I'm hoping someone will want it, if only because the pictures don't come through very well on the scanned images. I'll send it to someone for the shipping costs. If you are interested, email me privately at cwilmot@uiuc.edu. First responder gets the book.
Harriet first married a William Huxley 7 April 1849 in St. John the Baptist, Hoxton Old Town, Shoreditch and then on 2 June 1849 she appears to have married a George Hollington in Limehouse Stepney.
If you require any other in formation please e-mail me on my new e-mail address "david.sharpless@btinternet.com"

Melinda, There is much written about the Sharples-Sharpless family. It seems that a Jesse married a "Hannah...." and is referred to in the books about this family.
Jesse was the son of David Sharples & Priscilla Powell who married on June 12, 1740. Jesse was the 4th. of 5 children to David & Priscilla.
Just to add that "Jesse & Hannah" had 3 children, Jesse, Aquilla & Sarah.
If you need more please contact me as the information going back further is fascinating!

I have been attempting to establish a link between the Sharple family and how they might relate to my ggg-grandmother, Eliza Pennell. In Chester County, PA, I have found marriage records between Pennells and Sharples as well as other legal documents that connect the two names.

In an 1843 letter to Eliza, her Mother (penned by her sister Joanna) states that Eliza's sister Polly is visiting and will soon be returning to the Sharples. I had originally thought Polly was working for the Sharples; however, now wonder if she wasn't living with her in-laws or another relative. Do you have any information that would help me in my search?

Thank you either way.

I just found your rather dated message, but hope you may be able to help. I'm trying to find a connection between the Pennell and Sharpless families of Chester County, PA. I have found the names linked in marriage and copies of documents found on the Internet. My 3great grandmother was Eliza Pennell, but I have been unable to located the names of her father and mother. In a family letter I have from the early 1840's a letter written by Eliza's mother (penned by her sister Joanna) says that Eliza's sister Polly was visiting and would soon be returning to the Sharples. I, at first thought, Polly was working for the Sharples; however, now wonder if she wasn't living with in-laws or a relative.

If you receive this, I would appreciate any help you could provide. Thank you

Sims (1871-1947). Both George & Mervia are buried in the Tasker Cemetery in Vindex (near Kitzmiller), Garrett Co., MD. Herbert married Minnie Lucretia Sharpless (b. 03-29-1900) on 08/20/1916 in Garrett Co., MD. Minnie was the daughter of Benjamin Allen Sharpless and Elmira F. (Bray) Sharpless. Herbert & Minnie had 6 children: Evelyn Frances (b. 03/18/1917); Benjamin Richard; Mervin Louis; Alonzo Charles (Lonnie); Mary Jane (b. 1923; d. 1925); & Christine (b. & d. 1925).

I have the Sharpless line back to 1624 in England, but am having considerable problems with the Sims line prior to George.
Hi Melissa,
I still have very little. Have not found Elizabeth Ann
Sharpless or daughter Melissa Irene O'Donald. Have found
Ewel O'Donald as second husband to Ethalinda Foster Hays,
married her in Coshocton Ohio Aug.25,1859.His birth place.
In rereading an obit for Aunt Susie Cox. She came to
Chautauque Co. Ks. in 1874 with Grandparents John Sharpless.
My mom had been told that Aunt Susie was a full sister to Melissa Irene. The dates fit, if Ewel remarried that year and didn't want [or the new wife didn't want a 7 year old.].
Would love anything you have. Do you want a copy of the
Elizabeth Ann Letters I have ? Judy

Yes, my wife is a Sharpes, which is connected to this family, and they dropped the "L". They are from (West) Virginia. How are you related? I will have to see how we tie together. I have Jesse Sharples 1757-1838 married to Hannah Pipten 1764-1840. They had three sons we believe. William is the one who changed his name (or had it changed for him) to William Sharpes. He was born March 11, 1798 and died November 2,1873. He married Mathilde Bailey February 26,1829. It took us a while to figure out this family, and I think we have it right, but we have not proven anything back beyond the marriage bond for William and Mathilde.
