Hi Freda. This post is older and you may not reply, but i'm giving it a shot. My family is from Bakersfield, Ca and we owe that to my great gma Margie Parker (Shatwell) who moved here from Oklahoma. Her father was Beaden Shatswell and her Grandfather was James Shatswell. I'm curios to know who you keep in comtact with here in Bakersfield. Mary I'm trying to find out if we're related. my grandmother was Ruby M. Shatswell, daughter of Thomas and Rachel. She was born in Arkansas, moved to Oklahoma area, she died in 1994, my great grandfather, Thomas died in 1966?, I did meet him when I was 5 years old. My grandmothers siblings were Fay, Homer, Farrel, Cornelia Corrine, May, Stella, to name a few. Does this sound familiar to you. I live in the UK and am searching for my roots.

Thank you for answering. I lived by Tom Shatswell in Lamont before he passed away. So do you still live in CA? We still have a house in Ventura and go out there all the time from Oklahoma. I will look on the website and hope to hear from you again. I have contacted a couple of people who have pictures of graves sites and information all the way back to 1600's and am waiting for the info. Do you want it too? I would like to update current family info also if you would like to. I see Claudine and Maybelle in Bakersfield, are you there?

Thank you for your messages. I found alot of information on the Shatswell family at: rkinfolks/stories/shatswell1.htm. Mary Becky Shatswell is listed there. However, for me it was confusing to follow. Since it is your side of the family, you would probably recognize names. Therefore it would probably make more since and you would be able to figure it out. I met my great-grandfather Joe in 1964, when he came to California to visit his ill brother Tom at the hospital. I did not know his family lived in Bakersfield. If I come across any other information on Mary, I will let you know.

I am the great great great great granddaughter of Thomas Shatswell who came to America from Germany. He was in the Prussian army... and I know he married Hannah Rowell in JUly of 1805.I don't know what year he was born. They had 9 children, but I've not found any that match your grandfather's name. They were in Salem Massacusetts, from all the records I can find.. would love to exchange information with you.

I am a descendant of Abraham Shotwell, the first recorded Shotwell in the Colonies. He is believed to have been born in England abt. 1620 and arrived in NJ around 1660. His sons, John Daniel, became Quakers and in some old records, Abraham is referred to as Shatswell, Shatwell, Shotswell, etc. Does anyone know of a connection with the Shatswells? Any information will be most appreciated.

You may know of Shatswell Ober, whose family originates in Ipswich and Beverly, Mass. He was a professor of aeronautical engineering at MIT for many years, and married my aunt. The Obers lived in Arlington Heights, Mass., for many years, and he is buried in Arlington, although his parents and sister are buried in Beverly. He has one living daughter.

I am the Great-Grandaughter of Joe Shatswell, Grandaughter of Ella Mae Shatswell, Joe's first born child by his first wife, and my mother is Virginia A. Hembree. I am looking for information on the name of Ella Mae's mother, the names of Joe's parents, and any other information you can provide so I can complete our family tree. I did find in the 1920 census, Ella Shatswell was living with her father and Myrtle Belle. I hope Leon can provide this information.

Looking for any info on Granny IDA
She was raised in Ga by an aunt after her mothers death late 1800s to 1900's.

She married _______Williams and gave birth to a daughter Betty around 1910, and another daughter Grace around 1912-13. Grace was born in Thomasville, Ga right outside of Blakely, Ga.

Looking for any info on Ida Mae Shatwell or Shotwell. Ida was raised by an aunt in Ga around late 1800's to early 1900's.
The aunts last name was Zimmerman.

Ida married a ______Williams had two girls,
Betty Williams, 1910 place unknown. Grace Williams 1912 or 13 in Thomasville, GA.

Would love to know more about Granny Ida. She proudly spoke of being part indian. Any help would be a blessing.

What I've found in my research is that Joseph Richard, Mary Becky, William Jesse, Nancy Letitia Jane, and Thomas James were children of George Washington Shatswell and Elizabeth Ann O'Neal.
George Washington Shatswell was later married to Mattie Lou Rutledge and they had 8 children.
Keep in mind, my research is forever a work in progress, so there may be mistakes.
I have George Washington Shatswell and Elizabeth in Union, Newton County, Arkansas in 1860 and White, Newton County, Arkansas in 1870, which would put most of the children born in Newton County, AR.

Mary, my great grandfather was Thomas Shatswell, his wife was Rachel, my grandmother was Ruby Mamie Shatswell-Dutton who died in Weleetka, Okla in 1992. Do you know if we're related? Rachel I was told was born in LA, my ggfather Thomas was supposed to have owned many acres of land in Okla in the early 1900's.

I have Mary Shatswell as being born in 1606 in Ipswich, MA. She died on Apr. 28, 1694 in Newberry, Essex, MA. Her first husband was John Webster and then when she was widowed she married John Emery of Newberry. This second union explains why here death place is different from her birth place since people tended not to move around so much.

(Just a note: There was article in the Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical's publicatin of the RESEARCHER on the Shatswells. I think there may be a few errors in it but it does say John Emery (the one who was the 2nd husband to the widow Mary) had a niece named Mary Webster who married John Emery II. I don't anything about how proven this arictle is.)

As for Mary Shatswell, I have her parents as John Shatswell born 1574 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. He died on Feb. 11, 1646 in Ipswich, MA. He married Judith (last name not known) on 1599.

Judith was born 1578 and died on Apr. 17, 1648 in Ipswich, Essex, MA. I haven't been able to go back any farther...yet.

I just thought I'd post what I have on the Shatswells and see if we can compare.

From my pedigree charts I have a John Shatswell born 1574 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. He died Feb. 11, 1646 in Ipswich, MA. I have his wife as Judith (no last name found yet). He married her in 1599. His daughter, Mary, is the one I am connected to.

Mary was born in 1606 in Ipswich, MA and she died on Apr. 28, 1694 in Newberry, Essex, MA. She married John Webster on Nov. 4, 1636 in Ipswich, Essex, MA.

I contacted the Tacoma-Pierce County Genealogical Society who happened to have had a piece published in the RESEARCHER about the Shatswell Family in MA. They were kind enough to send me a copy of the piece. It does say that Mary married a second time when left a widow to a John Emery of Newberry, MA (which explains why her death place is different from her original birth/marriage place).
