I am descended from James Shaw who married Margaret Sloan in Barr in 1762. I think he was related to william Shaw who was having children in Barr at the same time as James.
There are a few choices for William's parents.
John Shaw and Agnes Mckill had a son William in Barr in 1723
James Shaw and Helen McWhirter had a son William in Barr in 1734
George Shaw and Jean McClymont had a son William in Barr in 1729
I would tend to go for John and Agnes who had the following
John and Agnes were married in Barr in 1720
The names seem to tie in with William's children
although the Helen ties in with James and Helen
I have not found a gravestone for William in Barr or for my ancestor James Shaw but James son Hugh Shaw is buried in Barr cemetery and in the very next grave is a stone to John Shaw.
A pleasant youth John Shaw his Name within this grave doth lye. Set not your heart on ought then here for all is vanity. He d 23.12.173(1) aged 28.
There is no mention of wife or children,
parents or siblings. The date of his death coincides with the last birth to John and Agnes but that could be a coincidence. I feel he is related to us somehow with the graves being so close. He would only have been 17 in 1720 so maybe a bit young.
I hope this is not too confusing
