Funeral of Capt. Shaw Was largely Attended.
Hundreds Gathered at St. Johns's Church to Pay Last Tribute ot Deceased Officer.
The funeral services of the late Capt. William A Shaw, formerly United States inspector o hulls for this district, a Mason of high degree and a Confederate soldier, good citizen and worthy friend, attracted a very large crowd to St. John's Episcopal church yesterday afternoon and all followed earnestly and in sorrow the body to its last resting place in the Old City cemetery. The service at St. John's was conducted by the Rev. Van.... Shields, rector, who followed the ...al ritual of the church.
In the church were noted members of Robert E Lee Camp, United Confederate Veterans, the Knights templar, Masons, members of other organizations, and hundreds of men who follow the sea. Capt. Shaw had been all his life associated with the "men who go down to the sea in ships" and for more than a quarter of a century he had been master of river steamers on the St. Johns. His old comrades and friends were present to bid farewell and they all seemed affected at this parting.
Numerous beautiful tributes in bright flowers had been sent to deck the bier and these were placed tenderly above the mound in the cemetery, and after the beautiful ceremonies of the Knights Templar at the grave, the crowd returned to the city.
