There is another family of Shaws that came to Maryland originally in 1715 as endentured servants. They moved down to Georgia, eventually settling in Walker County. Some of the children of Amos Shaw moved to northern Louisiana. Amos is my ggg grandfather, and I'm working on rebuilding that part of my database after a computer crash. I also live in Louisiana, close to New Orleans. I'll share any info I have.

labulletgirl@yahoo.com
I am a participant in the Shaw Y-DNA Study researching several brothers who first came to PA before 1730 but soon migrated to Old Austa County, VA prior to 1745 and then Old Orange and Johnston Counties, NC during the 1760s including John, James, William, Joseph, Timothy, Samuel Hugh, etc.. We do have positive Y-DNA connections to Botetourt/ Wythe County, VA and Orange County, NC before the Revolutionary War. John Henry Shaw (1763 NC - 1827 AL) was my GGGGreatGrandfather. His brother was James Henry? Shaw born in VA about 1761. James married Martha "Patsey" Irwin about 1785 in Orange, NC while John Shaw married Mary Margaret Irwin on 11 August 1788 in Washington, NC. These families all took Land Grants in TN and later went down the Natchez Trace settling in both Central Mississippi and the Red River of Louisiana in the early 1800s. Many family went to TX and West before and after the Civil War. I'm also reseraching related Irwin/ Erwin/ Irvine, Wyley/ Wylie/ Wylly, Hunt, Bagwell, Malone, Irwin/ Irvine, Morgan, Chancellor, Black, Lee, Fulcher, Merrill, Dumas, Spiva/ Spivey, Huston/ Houston, Allbritton, Simpson, and other family backgorunds from VA, NC, TN, SC/ GA, AL, MS, LA, etc..

Contact me at theshawclan@comcast.net, Thanks.

I have Shaws in Orleans Parish also.

Mathew Shaw (From Ireland) married Ellen Roach (from Co. Wexford, IRE) in Mobile, AL prior to 1859. Moved to New Orleans by 1860.
Mathew is related to Archbishop John Shaw (info from a relatives anniversary write up), but I have not made the actual connection yet.

Other lines connected : Spellman, Nolan, Peterson, Dubret

Re: Hon. Robert Gould Shaw

Good luck on your search. You appear to be on your way. The following may not help but you can never tell:

The "Shaw Neighborhood" in Washington, DC is named after Col Shaw and the plaque that honored him at the Boston Commons was moved there several years ago. The monument to ALL black civil war soldiers is also there and Col Shaw is listed on it. You might gather more info on him by "visiting" the Webpage associated with it. White officers are listed right along with the African-Americans.

Some years ago, the Clan Shaw Society (a Scots heritage group) interviewed a nephew of Col Shaw -- perhaps it was your grandfather -- and donated a book to the Shaw library in Washington. I have a copy of the book somewhere in my library but cannot recall the name at the moment.

My name is Shaw and I was told I was descended from an officer who led a black unit in the civil war and when I heard about RGS I naturally assumed he was the one. But as I became interested in genealogy I learned all my Shaws came from the south. More research revealed that my Major Orrin M. Gross (also listed on the monument above) led a U.S. C. T. artillery unit.

If you have specific questions, I suggest you refer to the sources above and the genealogist for Clan Shaw Society. I will also answer any questions I can, but I know less than the people above.

Mike Shaw
Denison, Texas

Pennsylvania. Widower. Works in ice plant.

He was living as a boarder in the household of Frank Hay & family.

This is where it gets wierd...also in the 1920 census of Stroudsburg, Monroe County is:

Elmer Trock - age 51 b.Pennsylvania.
Re: Descendents/Relatives of William Herbert Shaw and Mary Elizabeth Sharrow

William Herbert Shaw and Mary Elizabeth Sharrow were my grandparents. They were both born in 1887, and were married 05 Mar 1906 in Matawachan, Ontario. They had at least 8 children, one Alice Olive Delina, and another William Henry Delbert. I have found 3 other children of Isabella McDonald and James Sharrow, Lillian, Sarah Jane and Melissa (spelled Milisa on the 1901 Census for Clarenden and Miller, Addington, Ontario). I have newspaper reports for Isabella McDonald, and her obituary. I also have pictures of both James and Isabella. I don't have a great deal of information but am willing to share what I have, and would be delighted to learn what anyone else has. Please contact me at the following email address:

wyldewud@yahoo.com
I, also, have SHAW family from the same time period. Yes, it is frustrating because I have also hit brickwalls. My gr-gr-gr grandfather, William B. Shaw was born in South Carolina in 1801. His wife, Jinnat McCorkle was born in 1802 in South Carolina,(I do have info on her side of the family). I have no info on my William B. Shaw's parents or siblings. I have read that William B. Shaw's father was also William Shaw and he fought in the Revolutionary War and was of Irish descent from a Parke County, Indiana Atlas, where he migrated around 1830 or so with Jinnat and children. I have no info on William Shaw, Sr or his wife. No one has been able to connect my 4th great-grandfather via Bible records to my family for sure. I'm not sure your ancestor is the same as mine...but it sure would be great if we are connected! Do you have a William B. Shaw in your family? You can email me at memaw2008@comcast.net
