I am seeking information about a John Shea. John was born about 1824 in either Queen’s County (Loais) or Cork County Ireland. John met and married a Theresa Dunn (from either Queen’s County or Cork) in Ireland about 1845. One daughter, Mary Ann (Anna Marie) was born in Ireland. He came to the USA about 1850. We know John was a carpenter in the Washington DC area sometime before 1860 and that he lived in Virginia by 1860. John and Theresa had at least one more child, Phillip – born in the USA. They may have had another child, Joseph. Theresa died sometime between 1860 and 1864. We believe Joseph passed away as well. We know that Phillip lived in Delaware, married a Sallie or Sarah and that he had a daughter, Virginia and son, F. Allen Shea. John served in the Letcher Battalion in the Civil War. He lost both feet in the battle of Fredericksburg in 1862. We know he survived until at least 1864 and believe he survived until well after the war. We do not know when or where John died.
We believe his sister, Catherine and at least one brother came to the USA with him. Catherine eventually married a James Henderson and settled in Tennessee. We do not know his brother’s given name. We believe his brother had a son, John Shea (born about 1864) who lived in Maryland, married an Annie and had children named Bessie and John E Shea.
Any information about John Shea, Theresa, Phillip or the descendants of John’s brother would be greatly appreciated.
