Re: Aaron and Wiley Shearin

I am also working on a Wiley Shearin line.
I am a descendant of Charles, son of Charles, Son of John and Lucretia Shearin.
Charles, Jr. left a will naming a son Wiley. He was born about 1828 in Kentucky and married Mary Jane Wooden b. 1840 Kentucky.
Children were: Margaret, Susan, Henry, Thomas, James, and Catherine.

However I have another Wiley that I am trying to attach to the right line.

This Wiley was age 56 in the 1850 Casey County, KY and was living with his son Aaron Wiley Shearin. This Aaron was married to Mary Ann Coulter and I have more on their line. This older Wiley was born in Tennessee and seems to fit in with this line of Aaron, son of Charles, son of John, but I have absolutely no record giving any connection here. I do find him in several records with Edmund Sheron (sp.) who is the son of Charles, Jr. and seems to be about the same age as Edmund. Anyone have anything on this Wiley?

Unfortunately, I've not made any real progress on this line in the last five years. I always assumed my Aaron Houston (born ca. 1830, probably in Wilson County, Tenn.) was named after Sam Houston, who had practiced law in Wilson County before moving on to political greatness. Houston appears occasionally as a given name among males of that generation and later.

Aaron Houston had only one son, from whom I'm descended, and the name Houston wasn't used in our line again. I've never proven who his parents were, although a logical guess is that he descended from one of the sons of Aaron Shearin, who moved to Wilson County from North Carolina, and married a woman named Johanna.

According to the Tom Cantrell book, it looks like you are descended from Wood Shearon, who is from a different line that moved to Wilson County as well. Your Francis Marion would have been a contemporary of Aaron Houson.

And now I'm intrigued further about this line, which I've not spent much time with in a while.

In the 1860 census, Morgan SHERON is age 58, living in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. This corresponds to what you stated earlier but not to the age he gave for the 1850 census in that same county. Listed with him are wife Mary, also 58, (who matches the marriage record you indicated in another posting), Thomas, 21, Sally, 19, Eliza, 17, and Mary, 12.

I don't find Morgan in 1870, but there is a Mary in Breckinridge County of approximately the right age, but listing Ireland as a place of birth. I'm just going from the Ancestry.com census index and don't have immediate access to see whether her other information matches that of Morgan's wife or not.

The next step would be to look at other records in that county, particularly probate if any are available.

Dolores

Mike,

This line remains my biggest brick wall. I've always guessed that my Aaron Houston SHEARON/SHEARIN descended from either Thomas or Morgan since they are the right generation and in the right location. But like you, I've found no information about these families. Their brother, William "Buck," is well-documented in comparison.

Could Morgan and/or Thomas moved away or died prematurely? I find a Morgan SHARON living in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, in the 1850 census (wife Polly, often a nickname for Mary) but haven't followed up on him. He is age 59, which is older than you surmise, but an appropriate age to be the father of Aaron Houston, who was born ca. 1830. Is anyone on the list descended from him, or does anyone know more about him?

Aaron Houston named his son Thomas (my great-grandfather), which may indicate that the elder Thomas could be Aaron's father.

Dolores

William T. SHEARON v. William S. SHARON

I'm currently finding this error at various web sites, WorldConnect, and the LDS Pedigree Resouce File. We may be able to stamp out the errors in the first two sources, but the Pedigree Resource Files are burned into CDs, so the error will no doubt keep re-surfacing...

The error is having Sarah Jane RAMBO (b. 1825, PA), daughter of Nathan Matson RAMBO & Elizabeth ASH, married to Senator William S. SHARON (1821-1885), son of William SHARON & Susanna KIRK. Sarah Jane RAMBO actually married William T. SHEARON (1822-1904), Indiana farmer and son of Caleb SHEARON. What I have on them (including documentation) is online at my web site in the form of a family group sheet:

http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/S/ShearonWilliamT-SarahJaneR...

William S. SHARON (1821-1885), U.S. Senator from Nevada, was one of the wealthiest men of the 19th-Century. He was born in Smithfield, Jefferson Co., OH, and lived in IL, NV, and CA. He married in 1852 in San Francisco, CA, to Maria A. MALLOY. I am still struggling with William & Maria's family group sheet, that is, still gathering documentation for it, so FWIW...

http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/FGS/S/SharonWilliamS-MariaAMallo...

If you feel I've made any errors, please don't hesitate to correct me.

Shearon Family, LeMars,Iowa

Mary Jean:

Peter C. Shearon settled in LeMars Iowa and married Nora Hannon who was from Bloomington, Illinois. They had four children, John, James, Josephine, and Mary.

John was my grandfather. He married Veronica Domonique and they had eight children. Most have moved from LeMars.

James never married. He fought in WW1 and received a medal of valour for his service. When he returned, he helped with the family farms.

Mary married (William, I believe) Lasch.

Joshephine died at an early age.

There is another branch of the Shearon tree buried in LeMars on the North End of town. This is the W.T Shearon, and C. Shearon family. No one in my family knows who they are. They seem to have been here a whole generation before my greatgrandfather came from Ireland. Yet, a photo of one of my grandfather's farms bears the name "C. Shearon Farm" on the back of it. I don't know if the photographer made a mistake, or if there had been a relationship known at one time.

VERA SHEARON-BALL

Her parents were John H. and Adelaide Mayhugh Shearon. Since it was common to name children after parents and other relatives, I thought that these two Mary Catherines may be related. Mine was called Mamie. Her siblings were Oliver, Ida, and Maud.

She had three children, Geraldine Graff, (married name Benigar) John Cyril Graff (married Clara Shirkey in 1930) and Bernard Graff, who married Lilian Weger in a similar time frame. I am very interested in the Shearon line, as I have very little info. Mary Shearon's mother was named Teresa, and lived in Lima, Ohio, as well.

Looking forward to any information you might care to share.

Sincerely,

Meg Graff Gerdes
Mpls, MN
mggerdes@cs.com
