Hello,
I believe I might have some information that might help you if we are talking about the same people. I have a book called "Peter Smail of Penn. and his Descendants". There is a paragraph that says Daniel Shellhammer b-11 Jan 1822 (Denmark Manor Church baptism, Westmoreland Co) to Philip Jacob Shellhammer and Elizabeth (last name is blank) and grandson of Peter Shellhammer. Elizabeth Smail (daughter of Jacob Smail b- 1792 PA and d- Nov/Dec 1857, I believe. ) b- 23 jan probably 1821 and married Daniel, 21 Dec. 1843 in Westmoreland Co. I hope this helps if it's the proper Daniel and Elizabeth that you are looking for.

Daniel Shellhammer; Kiskiminetas Twp, Armstrong Co, PA; b: 1822

I am interested in the apparent confusion in the RootsWeb WorldConnect about Daniel SHELLHAMMER and Elizabeth SMAIL family of Kiskiminetas Twp, Armstrong Co, PA. There are no less than 14 entries for this couple in RootsWeb WorldConnect. Five entries have no birthplace and no parents indicated for Daniel. Seven of the entries have Daniel born in Bucyrus, Crawford Co, OH with parents of Daniel SHELLHAMMER and Mary Elizabeth BOYER. One entry has him born in PA (no parents identified) and one in Franklin Twp, Westmoreland Co, PA with parents Phillip SHELLHAMMER and Elizabeth SILVIS. The US Censuses (1850-1900) all indicate he was born in PA.

Can anyone clarify this confusion?
Do you know if this shellhammer family is the relation to Taylor Floyd Shellhammer who was father to my Grandfather Taylor Shellhammer (b. 1905-died 2004 in Florida). My grandfather was from Ohio and married a woman name Ruth Smith who had a brother that married one of Taylors sisters (Paul to Edna??) Any information would be appreciated. Also my Grandpa had a brother Paul who farmed somewhere in Ohio and he was the last Shellhammer from his generation....died about a year or so ago.

It seems to be the norm.

Thankyou very much.

Tom, Thank you for the reply. The Sylvester I am looking for would have been late 1700's-1820 perhaps. Anna Cool Shelhammer, his widow, married John Barnes around 1822 in either Sussex County, New Jersey or Luzerne County, Pa. She had two children by her first marriage, if I remember correctly.
Hi Tom Shellhammer,

I am JoAnne Shellhammer Jensen born and raised near Apollo, Armstrong County (formerly Westmoreland) county.

How did anyone come up with the brother theory? We have (My sister and me been searching for Philip Jacob father of our Peter Schellhammer in eastern Pa. I don't think there were many people in Westmoreland County in 1730. except Indians. Our Peter Shellhammer went to Westmoreland and fought in the revolution and married and had a son Peter and son Philip Jacob. This was maybe in the 1770's .

We are having a big controversy over who our ancestor was and the library in Apollo, Pa apparently accepted the notion that Han Georg is our ancestor and he is not. There are people out there doing this genealogy and accepting their own notion of what is correct. The worst of it is some of them are not even related to the Shellhammer family.

I would like to refer you to my sister who lives in Camas Washington and has more info on this than I do. Her name is Ginny Heinen rorgheinen@wa-net.com Hopefully we can straighten this out.

JoAnne, I read you are from Apollo. My grandfather was William Park Shellhammer SR who lived on RD2 in Upper Burrell. I have communicated with Ginny and we are related. I never met another Shellhammer in my visits to Apollo and New Kennsington. When did our sides of the family stop communicating. My gggrandfather was Josiah. My father William P. SHellhammer JR grew up there till 1954 and does not know anything. Just curious.

Kurt

I only know of two Schellhammer's that came over in the 1700's One was Philip Jacob Schellhammer who came around the middle 1730's and settled in Westmoreland and Armstrong counties in Pa. The other (my ancestor) came over in 1753 and settled in Northampton County Pa. That's how we have been able to distinguish which is which when researching. I have never heard that they were brothers. Please I am always willing to learn more of my family.
Tom Shelhamer
tiegs82@hotmail.com
