Ervin Shemwell was my grandfather, Lester Morris Shemwell's brother. Willian Santford Shemwell was their father. His mother was Elizabeth Demaris Shemwell born 12-31-1854 and died 11-20-1907. She was married twice. First to Milt Frances and then to Josiah Stagner. William Sanford was born out of wedlock I believe.

To Don Stone. I have a Zachariah Shemwell in my family tree. His parents were James Shemwell and Miss Hibbs. I do not know Miss Hibbs's first name. but James married her. They had 9 children. Zachariah was their second child and he married Susan Wattley no record of any children for them James's other children were Mary, James Jr., Anna, Samuel, Elizabeth, Sarah, Penelope and Joseph. Hello I an researching my great grandmother Agnes Shemwell she was born abt 1880 and married John Henry Allcock in I think 1899 her mother Ann? and father Joseph Shemwell born around 1851 I think her grandparents were Samuel Shemwell born abt1826 at Tibshelf Derbyshire England and her grandmother was Martha born abt1829 at Hardtoft Derbyshire.
The only other information I can find is from hints on Ancestry and I dont think they are correct. If you can help me in any way it would be very much appreciated Kind regards Carol Gale

I`m searching for information on the Thomas W. Shemwell family. Thomas W. Shemwell (1803-1877) married Millie E. Armstrong (1831-1900?) in Stewart Co. TN in 1853 and moved to Trigg Co. KY by 1860. I think this was his second marriage. A daughter, Susan Shemwell, was born 12 May 1871. She married Robert Choate in 1894. I would appreciate any information on these family members, especially burial sites and locations of the Shemwell cemeteries in northern Stewart Co. TN.

Would appreciate information on my cousin's mother, Sarah Shemwell, listed on the 1910 census as Sarah Shemwell Shaw. She lived in Maryland, appears to have been born around 1865 - state unknown although we believe it may be Maryland. She married Thomas Krise Shaw and lived in the Md area most of her life. My cousin, now 76 years of age, would like to know more about her. Any help appreciated!

After much research, I think I've made the connection.

William Santford Shemwell was the son of Elizabeth Demaris Shemwell (31 DEC 1854 - 20 NOV 1907).

Mrs. Shemwell was married twice, on 12 JUN 1889 to Josiah M. Stagner, and also to Milt Frances, date unknown.

Elizabeth's tree is easy to trace back to James Shemwell Sr. (b. 1727, Sussex, England) & Mary Higgs (m. St, Mary's County, MD), I have not yet attempted to go back further.

The open question is, who was Williams's father? She was married twice, yet he bears his mother's maiden name. This would seem to indicate that he was the child of a third love interest in Elizabeth's life, and, if so, I fear that may be untraceable.

Anyone have any futher information along that line?

In case you're curious, I am the son of James R. Shemwell and Connie J. Lynn. My father's dad was Ervin Shemwell, whose parents were William Santford Shemwell and Callie Emaline Morris.

I have never been able to get past William Santford until tonight, a lucky Google search led me to the Trafton family website entry for William Santford Shemwell at http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~traftons/familytree/aq... - you can click the links and follow the chain.

James J., Joseph Theodore. From family papers we know that Joseph Theodore had some sort of developmental problems as they were unsure that he could be educated. The heartwarming thing is - is that we know that he was not shunned or abandoned or hidden, as Emily took him under her care and eventually Lucinda did also. That's what I have at this point.....

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you but I hope I get at least some brownie points for my response. I did come across a Florence Shemwell in my records born around 1859. Her father was Allen J. Shemwell and her mother was Elizabeth Lassetter. This Florence married a C. H. Farland on April 18, 1889. Could this be the same Elizabeth? She might have had a second marriage. Well that's all I know right now. This Allen could of been my Great Great grandfather's brother. But at this point I have know real documentation on them being brothers. My Great Great grandfather's name was William Shemwell.

Doris, recently talked to Herb via e-mail. He said that he knew of you through Ronnie. He supplied some of the family research that you were looking for. As it turns out, Herb was trying to find the Ralls cemetary but got lost. But he did stumble across the Mt.View cemetary, and took pictures of every headstone there. He says the grounds are near the entrance (north?) to LBL. If you would contact him, I am sure that he would be happy to share photographs and directions with you.

I have established a data base of Shemwell and I was able to list the information for you, after I established which Shemwell in the family you were searching for. My data base is a combination of reseach, sharing information, and so on. I have gained a great deal of info from the Shemwell website I was telling you about. All of the people on the site are reseaching the Shemwell family. We all share and exhcange information, as well as, post any information we discover so that everyone can use it. There are some people on the site from your direct line. They have shared their information with us, and that is probally where I obtained the info I passed on to you. I think you are talking about William Shemwell born about 1825 who married Mary Rice born about 1830. They had the following children:
John Thomas Shemwell
Henry Rice Shemwell
William H. Shemwell
Nancy Ann Shemwell

William Shemwell had a sister named Jemima Shemwell.

They had daughter's Rolana, Sharon, and younger son David, probably Jr.? Would be great if anyone can give my any information at all on the following. Jean Cartwright Born 1939, Parents William Cartwright and Phyllis Mary Shemwell. At Time of Birth they lived at Black Horse Lane, Delph, Brierley Hill. U.D. South Wales. She had a brother John Cartwright, not sure of his date of birth but we believe he was younger. Ronnie, does anyone know directions to Mountview Cemetery? And some Shemwells are suppose to be buried in a Ralls Cemetery. I don't have the directions to that one either.
I guess these are in Dover, Tn.. I have all ready been to Trinity Cemetery but, Mountview I'm told is pretty close to it. You said you are a branch off of James Shemwell? Is that James Dallas Shemwell?

I got a lot of information thru Ancestry.com I put in the Shemwell name and most of the Shemwell tree is in there from James Shemwell-Sussex, England on down. I was able to trace down to my Grandfather - Leonard Mason Shemwell. Your G-Grandfather Samuel R.
