I am a Metcalf researcher and and trying to determine the relationship of Elizabeth Scarbut/Shearbut below to James Metcalf of AA Co., Maryland. The relationship appears to be close, such as a son or son-in-law. Any help would be appreciated.

I, Elizabeth SCARBUT of AA, for 5 shillings, and other good causes, grant to James MEDKEF (MEDCALF) of AA, 6 negoes, vis MARY, JENNY, MINTY, RICHARD, GRIG, and NAN, with their future increase. Signed June 9, 1785. Elizabeth (ES her mark) SHEARBERT. Wit: Allen QUYNN, Sarah (A her mark) AMES. The within deed of gift was ack. Before Wm. HYDE and Allen QUYNN, one (sic) of the JPs for AA.
