My 3rd Great Grandfather was Emmanual Sherman. Everything I've heard and read says he was a first cousin to General William T Sherman, which would ( I believe) Make Emmanual's father and William's father brothers. The story as I understand it, was Emmanual was orphaned at a young age and came to live with a family friend, Alfred Mouton, who was a General in the CSA. Emmanual Sherman served in the 18th Louisana Regiment. If anyone has more or better information about this possible connection, I'd greatly appreciate it.
