I don't have their parents. For Alexander I have a note in my database that reads: TO BE VERIFIED: There is an online record for Alexander DONALD married to Jean FARQUHAR on 13 May 1733 in Midmar with children: Elizabeth chr 15 Feb 1743; Helen chr 1745 and John chr 1748. Based on the children's ages we wonder if the date of the marriage is inaccurate and perhaps Katharine KEMP died between 1737 and 1743 and her husband remarried.
NOTE FOR KATHARINE: Katherine's parents are believed to be James Kemp and Katharine Gaylor married 13 Jan 1700, Garvald. Alexander and Margaret, as you probably know, were wed 26 Oct 1726 in Midmar. They had, I believe, at four children: John, Alexander, William and Jean.

John DONALD (son of Alexander and Katherine)was christened 21 Nov 1730 in Midmar died after Sep 1769 (based on children's births). Barbara Donald born before 1732 died between 17 Feb 1761 and 1769.OPR 222/0010/0239 Midmar page 22 Registers of Marriages 1748, "12 June. John Donald & Barbara Donald both in this Parish were Contracted, Cons. Pledged & married 4 Aug."
NOTES for BARBARA: If Barbara was at least 14 when she married John DONALD, her birth would have been before 1734. The IGI has three Barbara DONALDs born in Aberdeen between 1708 and 1738. 1) Christened 4 Dec 1720, Bourtie, daughter of John; 2) christened 15 Dec 1720, Old Meldrum daughter of Alexander; 3) christened 7 Nov 1732 Newhills, daughter of William. (There were also 2 Barbara DONALDs born in Perth and 2 in Banff in this 20-year timespan.) We do not know at this point if any was later married to John DONALD. The GRO has records for Barbara daughter of Patrick DONALD / Sarah BANBRIECH born 26 Jun 1729 in Kilspindie 363/00 0003; Barbara daughter of James born 12 Jun 1731 in Turriff 247/00 0001; and Barbara daughter of William b 07 Nov 1732 in Newhills 226/00 0001... not much help I'm afraid.

The children of John and Barbara I believe (but cannot prove conclusively) included: Alexander 1749, William 1752, George 1754, Barbara 1756, Alexander 1758 and Robert 1761.

NOTES FOR BARBARA chr 16 May 1756: Sadly the Old Parish Record for the 'marriage' of James SHEWAN and Barbara DONALD was simply a record of the proclamation of the banns and contained no clues to her parentage. Given the marriage date of 1785, Barbara must have been born by 1769-70. In the same Midmar batch file as her son James SHEWAN -- C112222-- there was Barbara DONALD c: 16 May 1756 Midmar, Aberdeen dau John DONALD & Barbara DONALD. Dates for other christenings 1772, 1774 and 1775 seem unlikely. Based onall data contained in the Batch file for the Church of Scotland Parish Church of Midmar it is most probable Barbara DONALD who married James SHEWAN in Midmar 1785 was the daughter of John and Barbara DONALD.

James Innes (Shewen) SHEWAN was chr 21 Jul 1758.
NOTES FOR JAMES SHEWAN:James may have been the first of the SHEWAN line born in Midmar. His offspring are the only SHEWAN births found in Midmar between 1786 and 1801. It is believed his wife Barbara was from Midmar. The record of marriage for James SHEWEN and Barbara DONALD indicates simply that they were married in Dec 1785 in Midmar. James SHEWAN and Barbara DONALD's children were: Ann, William, James, Barbara, Henrietta, George, Elizabeth and Robert. At the baptism of his son William in 1788, James name is recorded as James Innes SHEWAN. TO BE VERIFIED: It is believed but NOT VERIFIED that William and Margaret were the parents of James Shewan b 1758 who married Barbara DONALD based upon the dates, location and surname [Church of Scotland, Parish Church of Midmar -- Microfilm OPR ms 222 Batch C112222] Of the 2300 records In batch C112222 from microfilm OPR 222, the only SHEWANs are William SHEWAN and Margaret MALCOLM's son James c: 1758 in Midmar; eight children of James SHEWAN and Barbara DONALD born between 1786-1801; the christening of Barbara DONALD; the marriage of Barbara DONALD and John DONALD and the marriage of Barbara SHEWAN and John PATERSON.

My family line is through Robert the son of James and Barbara who was christened on 31 Oct 1801 in Midmar, died and was buried on 8 Aug 1857 in Cluny.

I also have the family of John DONALD and Helen FOWLER in my data. Their son John married Isabella SHEWAN. Record of death indicates that Twenty-seven year old John Donald, son of John Donald, sailor, deceased and Helen Fowler, married twenty-five year old Isabella Shewan, daughter of William Shewan, deceased and Margaret Stewart deceased. John and Isobella had at least ten children. The 1881 Census records indicate that Isabella DONALD, age 49, from Monymusk was 49, married, a housekeeper living at 54 North Street in Inverurie, Aberdeen with her children John 19, Isaballa 11, Agnes 8, Thomas 6 and Janet 3 --- all were born in Inverurie. Isabella was still in Inverurie when the 1901 enumeration was done. She died there at the age of 87.

And I have a few descendants of Robert DONALD and Janet BROWNIE through their son Charles who married Agnes (Margaret?) MORTIMER as their granddaughter Margaret married Robert SHEWAN (he was my 3rd g-grandfather, son of James and Barbara) who had fathered a son with Betty GALASHAN before marrying Margaret.
