Speedy is my grandfather and I know part of Uncle Bobby's extended family through his son-in-law. I did manage to get a temporary CDIB card for the cherokee tribe, but it's not federally recognized so it doesn't do much good. Did you have any luck in getting the same? My children have more native american blood than I do. They are comanche and kiowa and are on the roll for the comanches.

In the body of your post, you discuss Mandy Stewart Shewmaker and Charles Shewmaker. I am familiar with a Mandy Shewmaker and Charles Shewmaker. The ones I know about are both deceased and Charles is buried in San Bernardino, ca. Mandy is buried somewhere in Northern California, I can make inquiries and find out exactly where.

They are the great grandparents of my son by my first marriage. Their son is Ambers Earl Shewmaker and is in his eightys but still living in the San Bernardino area.

They all originated out of west Texas.

What is your connection and how can I be of assistance?
I also am the great-great granddaughter of Nora Shewmake and Emmett Hugh Byrd (their granddaughter Opal is my grandmother). Great-Grandpaw Byrd (their son) was their only child and Nora remarried someone with the last name of Jones. Somewhere in my parents' house is a copy of her death certificate. Most of this information is what their granddaughter Jo and my moma have told me in the past in researching what Indian tribe my family is from. This is what the family tree should look like from Nora on (I don't know if ya know this already or not, but it doesn't hurt to repeat it, I guess):

Nora Elizabeth Shewmake married Emmett Hugh Byrd and had Hugh Byrd. Hugh Byrd married Grace Frances Fletcher and had seven children. Those seven children were my Great Aunt Mamie, my Grandmaw Opal Frances, Great Uncle Bobby, Great Uncle Speedy (real name Claude), Great Aunt Chickie (real name Elizabeth), Great Aunt Jo, and Great Uncle Emmett. As to all of their children, I couldn't begin to name them all. I hope this helps some.

Do you have any dates to go with those names? I only have one pair of father-son Jesses in my Shewmaker file. Jesse Sr (1772-1880). I have no dates for Jesse Jr, but I would assume he was b ~1800. These may be too early to be your grandfather's ancestors.

The dates of William are correct. He died in Seymour, Baylor County,Texas and is buried in the Round Timbers cemetery outside Seymour with his wife Nancy.
Thomas Wiley is the twin brother of William Riley, they were born 2 Dec 1861 in Weatherford, Texas.
I have information for Nora Elizabeth. Her original birth certificate had two errors on it and indicaqted a birth of 10 May 1892. Her actual birth was 10 May 1890, and it was officially corrected in 1956.
Please contact me and exchange information.

Do you have any documentation of this Jesse Shoemaker's children? Did he leave a will or estate record?
I'm especially interested in Jesse, born 1793 in GA, died Choctaw Co., MS between 1858 & 1860. I have recently discovered documentation that indicates this Jesse is not the son of Jesse.

James Shewmaker b. KY in IN by 1840

James Shewmaker and Harriett Malinda Walker were both born in KY according to 1840 IN census. By this time they had 3 sons and 2 daughters.

James b. abt. 1809 and Malinda b. abt. 1810. It has been family legend from my family and from a "New Found Cousin" that Harriett Malinda was a full blood Indian.

I have not been able to trace James back to KY without knowing at least the county. At least 2 children were born in KY.

On the census, his name is spelled Shoemaker but on the tombstone it is spelled Shewmaker and grandaughter spelled maiden name as Shewmaker.

Any one that might have a clue as to where in KY this family might be found please contact me. Thank you. Donna

I do live in Caldwell Co. next to Clinton Co. and have family in Andrew Co.

Linda, thanks for the info. I found some information posted by Wayne Parrott that indicates there was only one Daniel Shewmaker and he was married to Emily Turner 1st, then Eliza Woodcock.
I see your shewmakers were in Joplin in 1913. Are the Shewmakes and the Shewmakers related or two variations of the same name? I have a Jewel Neva Shewmake. She was the daughter of Wiley Thomas Shewmake and Eva Bell Johnson. She was born 25 May 1905 in Joplin, Mo. She married George Arthur Yenne 9 mar 1925.

Thank you in advance.

Charity

I do show Edmund Shewmake and Elizabeth Barnes as Wiley Thomas/Thomas Wiley's parents but the birth and death dates I have for William are completely differnt than the ones you have. I have William being born 8 Aug 1824 in Perry County, Tennessee and dying 28 Sep 1908 (No place listed). Not sure where this information come from other than one of my Yenne family members who is also related to the Shewmake's.

James and his wife Scintilla were in Collin county, Tx. in 1880, my great-grandfather Francis and some of their other children are also on the census. James is listed as James W. Shewmake, which is a mistake as his middle inital. If you want info on our line please contact me.

To William Burks

I can't tell you how surprised I was to spot your message re: William Harvey and Victoria Burks. They were my great grandparents through Robert Sidney Burks. Yours was the first message that popped up when I entered Burks, Mississippi.

According to family lore, William Harvey Burks died while crossing the Mississippi River just after the Civil War. He lies buried (according to legend) on the land between the Missouri(sic) and the Ohio Rivers. I figure that he is actually near Cairo, Ill, between the Ohio and the Mississippi.

Victoria and the children came on and settled in Miller County. She appears in the 1880 Miller County Census. Why did she go to Miller County? There were some Burks' in Miller County but I can find no connection. I can find no trace of her in Georgia, but I still have a lot of looking to do.

Stonewall Burks may be buried in Livingstone Cemetary, in Osage Township.

I would like to correspond with you on this line.

Tom Richardson

My Daniel Shewmaker married Emily TURNER, their children Caleb, William F., Sarah Elizabeth ( my 2ggrandmother), George, James Harrison and Katie Jane. Sarah Elizabeth married Ambrose Newton Rodgers. There are two Daniel Shewmakers. The Daniel Shewmaker that married ( md. 1858)Eliza Rodgers is one more generation back. William H. Rodgers and Mary Ann Snapp - parents of Ambrose Newton Rodgers and Eliza Ann Rodgers (who married Daniel Shewmaker) is the connection to both Daniel Shewmakers. We did not know what happened to Eliza Ann and her family because William H. and Ambrose Rodgers went to Montana and we lost track of Eliza Ann and the relatives who stayed in MO. We are related! I would love to know about Eliza Ann and her family and descendants. If you are interested in the Rodgers line I have it back to 1718. I have some on the Shewmaker line. I do not know how the two Daniels are related but I'm sure they are. Would love to hear from you.
