Thanks for quick reply, when I get home I will send you the lastest research I have on Peter vs Ludwig and wife Susannah Catherine Wambold. In touch with a Mary Ann Booher who is in charge of putting together history of those buried in Raper Chapel Cemetery. There are a bunch of broken stones piled up no one has sorted through yet. She says it is on the list to do. If I ever get back home to Ohio again I will stop by and look also. Mary Ann may also have a listing you mentioned. I will ask her. Might check your "junk mail" to see if you have a bunch of emails from me, I think that is the one I tried to use recently. Maybe I typed it wrong..Harry

Hi Harry
My email is cindyawise@comcast.net
Your information would be interesting to all Shideler descendants since the book "The History of the Shideler Family" by Harry Shideler has Peter's wife as Susannah Wambold and that has been generally accepted.
In all of my research I have not found a listing for David. The exception is that someone in Miami County who looked it up once told me they found a listing for him in the old Rapier Church cemetery records. But I have not been able to get anyone since to locate it for me. I am sure he is buried there but does not have marker. Logic would say he would be close to Peter and Susannah. His wife Margaret is buried in Lake City Iowa near her son Robert and his wife.

Cindy, what is a good email for you? Got some recent research on Peter Shideler's wife Susannah would like to send you. I think I can show Susannah Catherine Wambold was not his wife and he most likely married a daughter of Peter Zug. Harry in Jacksonville. PS I looked at on line listings for David in the Miami Cemetery list but have not been able to locate him yet. Do you know which cemetery he is in?

Cindy, Been researching wife of Peter Shidler (son of Johan George). Data strongly suggest that he did NOT marry Sussanah Catherine Wambold. That was an unrelated Ludwig Schidler/Schittler from Montgomery Co Pa who married Wambold on 20 Aug 1776. Peter and Susannah's first born George Shidler (named after his father in German 18th century tradition) was born 12 May 1776 according to bio written about him by a contemporary preacher(five months prior to marriage of Ludwig and Susannah Wambold). Data (Peter Zug estate papers) also strongly suggest Susannah was dau of Peter Zug, Brethern Preacher who was living near Peter Shidler in Greene Co Pa.

Hi

David died in August of 1839. I believe from the information on the estate papers it was about August 26 or within a day or so of that.
He died in Miami County of typhoid and is most likely buried in the Raper cemetery churchyard near his parents Peter and Susanna Shidler.

Cindy

Then spelling Shidler vs Shideler shows up as a variation in several records in my own family line. For example, my great great grandfather Robert spelled it "Shidler" on his marriage record but Shideler by the time he died and that is the spelling all of his children used and my family has used since. Robert's siblings all used one or the other spelling. So I think what was happening was by the time the 1860's came along the family began to anglisize the spelling to conform with English spelling rules. The Shidler spelling would have been pronounced with a short "I" as per English grammatical rules but the pronunciation would have been closer to the "Shideler" spelling (I have seen various original spellings but one is Schaiteler")

At any rate both spellings show up but it is the same family.

Cindy

It took three years to finish the estate business.

I remember the story about Jonathon (also called John in some records) I'd love to see those records. So sad and he ahd a family but he still joined up. So many didn't, my own great great grandfather Robert among them. He was 39 in 1860 so may have been too old but I don't know what the rules were at the time.

Cindy

Hi Ann,

I do have quite a bit about Peter and their family but I ahve concentrated on Peter and Susanna's son David as that is who we descend from. Peter is buried in the Raper cemetery near Troy in Miami County. His grave marker had toppled this winter and is being reset by the cemetery trustees this spring. I believe Susanna is also buried there as well.

I am happy to share what I have with other descendants. You can email me directly at cindyawise@commast.net.

Also Jacquie Shidler Meyer has revised the 'History of the Shidler family" by Harry Shideler. She will send people a copy if they email her at jacmey@sbcglobal.net. You need to contact her for price. there are some errors about my family line in it and I am sending her the changes. I don't know hwo long it will take to make those into the book so if there is any question about David's line please contact me.

Cindy

I ahve the copy of the book written and copyrighted by J. Shidler Meyer as she is my aunt. We have had no luck in finding much information of my Grandfather Virgil Clarence Shidler's brother--Chester Albert b. 1902 in Ill proably in Shelbyville, Shelby Co. We know he was in a boys school at about 16 but after that he has disappeared and wondered if anyone knows any more about him. We can not find him on any census forms or military. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if I can help any one with what I have I would be happy to send it along. Cherie

I am so sorry in reading this past when you posted a message but I found in a book written by my Aunt that states that Barbara Shidler married Jacob Gripe/Cripe in about 1766 in Hagerstown Frederick Co. Maryland. They had eight children sometime before 1805 and the family moved to Montgomery Co, Ohio. Jacob died in 1805 in Ohio. Barbara died in Indiana where her son Samuel Cripe and wife Susannah Noffsinger were living. I do have some family history please let me know what you are misssing and I will see if I have it---Jacob b. 5-14-1767 d. 11-1-1865 Barb b.abt 1747 and died and is buried in Dublin, Wayne Co. In. and is buried in Old Dublin Cem. Hope this could help you late but maybe it did some. Have a great day Cherie

I'm not sure if I ever responded to you - sorry, I was finishing graduate school last winter and tended to drop everything else. It sounds like we share gg grandparents (Joseph & Henrietta Shideler). Bertha, Joseph & Henrietta's daughter, was my g grandmother. To which sibiling were you related? Some tidbits - Joseph was a doctor and died of brain cancer & Bertha was a traveling preacher, she married Delma Clarence Harness (1st wife). And by the way, Joseph's father was Isaac & his grandfather was David. But maybe you know all this already.

Terry

Hi Kay, I am descended from Peter Shidler (b. abt. 1785 in PA). He married a Mary ??? (b. abt. 1783 in MD?). Their son was Jacob Shidler (b. abt 1818). Peter settled in Lawrence Co., IL in 1838. Jacob married Catharine Sumner on 2 Apr 1839. Would you have any information about their families in your book.

Where might I obtain a copy of this book? My grandmother was a Shidler and I would love to know where we came from? Thanks. Kevin.

Hi theresa,

I am also researching familyhistoryu. I find it fascinating your husband took your family name! Quite a guy! I have a copy of the book, History of the SHideler Family" that was revised and published in 1995 by a Jacqueline SHideler Meyer. I would be happy to help you with any research you are interested in. The SHidelers were numerous in Delaware Co Indiana and Miami Co Ohio. They all originally decend from a Johan Georg Schaideler who emigrated in 11730 on hte ship Harle out of Cowes England. He was part of the great migration out of the Palatinate. Anyway we are all connected. Let me know if I can help. I have a lot of inforamtion.

Cindy Shideler Wise

Hi Cindy.......This is really chilling for me cuz my older brother who lives in Charlotte, NC is married to a woman named Cindy. So her name is Cindy Shideler too! I have another brother named Michael Shideler and he lives and works in NYC. My parents have just moved from Daytona Beach, FL to Charlotte to be closer to my older brother. I have tons of Shideler family members in Huntington, IN. I have some pictures of my father's parents when they ran a farm there. My cousin Dave and his wife Pam Shideler run the farm now. Do you know of them? They have 3 grown kids and their father Dave, (my cousin) went to Ball State and then worked for Wayne Metals later. But now he took over the farm after his father Roger Shideler died in 1982. My grandparents name is Norman and Tennie Shideler. I have pictures of them too. Let's hook-up and swap info cuz maybe we really are family. This is exciting! Better than the war and September 11, 2001. Can you believe that I sat here in Oslo, Norway and watched the whole thing LIVE on CNN. Keep in touch please..............Theresa (Teri) Lynn Shideler

Isaac SHIDELER d. 1 October 1898 - Lyons, KS

WARNING: the description of the death is very graphic.

"The Kansas City Journal" (Missouri) Sunday, October 2, 1898

A VETERAN'S SHOCKING DEATH.

Emporia, Kas., October 1. --- (Special.) Isaac SHIDELER,
an old soldier whose home is near Lyons, Kas., met with
an accident on the Santa Fe tracks in this city this afternoon,
which resulted in his instant death. He, his wife and son
came in on No. 113 from Topeka, where they had been
attending the encampment.

Mr. SHIDELER got off the train and started for one of the
restaurants opposite the depot, when the switch engine pulled
up and detached two of the coaches which were to be left here.
The engine was shoving these two coaches down toward the
roundhouse when Mr. SHIDELER attempted to get on the head
car, thinking it was his train pulling out. He was jerked under
the wheels and instantly killed. His right arm was cut off, his
head was mashed into a jelly and his body completely cut in two
at the waist. The gold watch in his vest pocket was ground to
pieces.

Mrs. SHIDELER and her son saw the accident and they were
so badly shocked that they are completely prostrated. They
were taken to the Fifth Avenue hotel, where they are under the
care of a physician.

======================================================
(I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate
knowing if you found this posting helpful.)
johnobrien@kc.rr.com
======================================================

neirbo5
I am also researching the Shideler branch and would be very interested in getting a copy of the Shideler History book that was published in 1995. Can you point me towards whomever has copies? My lineage is from Peter (b abt 1751 in PA, unk wife) whose parents were John (b abt 1710 in Germany) and Margaret Nave or Neff (unk dob, died at 84 in Washington Co, PA). Many of those in my direct line were in Delaware Co, IN for quite a while before spreading out to other places. John and Margaret were my 6th-great-grandparents.

I am looking for information on Jacob Shideler, CO who was born ~1832 in Iowa. He married Mary Ann Irving and they had 8 children, one of which was my ggrandfather Sylvestor Shideler. I am looking for Jacob's parents who were possibly in or born in NY? My grandfather Wilbur Shideler told me the story of how two brothers came over from Germany on a ship and changed the spelling of their last names to Shideler so they could find each other later. The surname was possibly spelled Sheidler or Shidler. If you find any info in your book please let me know.
