Classification: Query
Surnames: McGee, Crews
I have posted some of this information before. But recently came across some additionally insightful details that may explain, to someone, his not being listed as a casualty of the Battle of Shiloh.
Perhaps someone can add something to what I have.
I would gladly appreciate any thoughts.

According to records on the 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry, Daniel McGee was a private in Co. A, and was 32 years old.

He enrolled on 2 Oct 1863 and was mustered in at Nashville, TN. The 30 April 1864 muster roll has the following remarks: "mustered as a deserter from the 6th Tennessee Cavalry, turned over to this command by order of Maj. Murphy on 15 Feb 1864."

Roll for 6 May 1864 stated" returned from 6th Tennessee Cavalry having never been mustered into that regiment."

Roll for 23 July 1864: "killed in action at or near Clifton, TN."

Final statement: Born in Wayne Co., TN, age 32 years, 5 feet 9 inches tall, dark complexion, black eyes, dark hair, a farmer.

It is speculated that he was injured during the "Battle of Shiloh" and died as a result of that injury.
He is buried in the Clifton City Cemetery.
(I have verified this by personally seeing the stone. I took a picture of same, but lettering was not visible in photo. Later, took a "rubbing" to confirm name and dates.)

Daniel K. McGee was in the 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry Co. A. Union Army also he was in 6 Tennessee Cav. Co. F for a short time out of Wayne Co..

On Oct 2 1863 Daniel K. McGee was mustered into Co. A. 2 Regiment Tennessee Mounted Infantry. There was some confusion about his enlistment as he was mustered as a deserter from the 6th Tennessee Calvary, but it seems he was not properly mustered into that organization and was accepted into the new unit. He is noted as being 32 years, 5 feet 9 inches tall, dark complexion, black eyes and dark hair, and born in Wayne County Tennessee. He entered service at Nashville, Tn.

By his service record he was killed at or near Clifton Tennessee by a gunshot wound from the enemy on 23 July 1864

On 3 February 1866 Mary Jane made her first application for a pension number 106,007. Correspondence, affadavits, etc. were submitted from midwives, residents and others up into 1869 when the pension of $12.00 a month was stopped. Certificate No. 130,477. She stated she lived 6 miles from Lawrenceburg on Knob Road.
