Hi,
My grandfather,James Edward Shimp, was born in Ohio in 1847. The only shimp family I can find in the 1850 census with a three year old James is Jonas Shimp of Monroe County, Ohio. In the same township is William Shimp with a five year old John. My grandfather James is living in Lucus Co. Iowa in 1885. Also this same William and also this same John are living there. In 1900, my James and this same John are living in Green Co. Mo. where John died in 1915. I don't know if there is any connection with your JOHN, but you might try Green Co.,Mo. and Iowa.
