Gary L. Shingle, Sr. Gary L. Shingle, Sr., age 64 of Millcreek, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9, 2007 unexpectedly , Gary spent last week doing what he loved, golfing and bowling with his friends, boating with his family and most of all, spending time being “Papa”. He was born in Erie on December 15, 1942 a son of the late Frank and Virginia Stewart Shingle. Gary was a proud member of the 1960 class of Academy. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He had been employed at Steris Corporation until his retirement in 2004. Gary was a member of the Erie Yacht Club, Erie Maennerchor, lifetime member of the VFW Post 470, Siebenbuerger, South Erie, Knights of St. John and the Sunflower Club. To cherish his memory, Gary leaves behind his beloved wife, Carol Malinski Shingle whom he married in 1964, his son, Gary Jr and his wife Michele of Lake City, his daughter Mary Lynne and her husband Jonathan Zimmerman of Medina, Ohio and a half-sister, Marge Zerbe of Erie. Gary is further survived by his granddaughters, Emily Shingle of Dover, Del. and Abbey Zimmerman of Medina, Ohio. Four step-grandchildren, Kristina, Mark, III, Breann and Kaitlynn and one step-great-grandchild, Alijah. He will be sadly missed by his father-in-law, Stanley Malinski, his sisters-in-law Nancy and Becky Malinski, Marge Huber and her husband Bob and Teri Baker and her husband David and many nieces, nephews and friends. Gary was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he cherished his ’67 Camaro and loved his two dogs, Mollie and Cassea. He truly appreciated the love and support during his illness from family and friends. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc, 2502 Sassafras St from 2-5 and 7-9 and are invited there for the service on Thursday morning at 9:30 followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church/Bread of Life Community at 10am.
