Harry Wright NEWMAN's Anne Arundel Gentry, Vol. 2, 1971 & 1990, has the information that I posted for the other sons of Edward, but, for Joshua, NEWMAN said: See Anne Arundel Gentry, First Edition. (I don't have that.)

Dorsey Family by Maxwell J. DORSEY, Jean M. DORSEY, & Nannie B. NIMMO, 1947, says Joshua DORSEY died 1688, having married Sarah RICHARDSON, who d. 1705/6, having m2. Thomas BLACKWELL, who d. 1700. The will of Joshua DORSEY named his "only son John DORSEY." He also mentioned two hogsheads of tobacco owed him by Charles STEVENS. {Was Charles related to the Shipley wives?}

Court papers show that John had some difficulty getting his estate from his uncles, but Uncle Edward DORSEY may have been worried about John's ability to handle the estate.

John DORSEY, b. by 1682 [16 in 1698], m. 22 Aug. 1702, All Hallows, AA, Comfort STIM[PON, b. by 1686. She was daughter of John STIMPSON & Rachel _, who m1. Neale CLARK, who d. 1678; m2. John STIMPSON, who d. 1688; m3. Robert PROCTOR; m4. Thomas FREEBORNE.

John DORSEY sold to John HAMMOND of Cecil Co., in Nov. 1726. Later, Susannah, widow of John STOKES, claimed that John DORSEY had pretended to sell to John HAMMOND to keep the land from creditors. John HAMMOND said that he had bought the land and that there was no other agreement. Comfort DORSEY, aged 50, testified on 18 Feb. 1736, that she was the wife of Coll. John DORSEY, late of Baltimore Co., that they had been boarders at the STOKES home in 1726, and that her husband had left from there. She said that she had been informed that her husband was in debt but did not know that for a certainty. Son Joshua, 24 in 1736, admitted that he did know that his father was in debt when he left, but that he was living on his father's plantation to which he had the right of possession.

The will of John HAMMOND, pr. 7 Je. 1737, bequeathed his entire estate to Comfort DORSEY and her ch. Vincent, John Hammond, Sarah, & Vanesha DORSEY.

Will of Comfort DORSEY, pr. 23 Jan. 1747: To daus. Sarah & Venice & sons Joshua, Greenberry, Vincent, & John Hammond DORSEY. Also to grandch. John & Comfort, ch/o Greenberry, & to Elizabeth, dau/o Joshua.
