What does the book have on Nathaniel; birth date, parents, places, etc.? Does it have anything on a John SHIPLEY b in 1700s? Poss. Md. or Ky.? Most particularly a John and Martha SHIPLEY, sometime in the 1700s; a married couple. Thanks for any help.
Abigail
mabanks4@yahoo.com

If my "old" memory serves me she was from an old prominent Maryland family.
"Just want to know".....,
Abigail Banks Dennison

Thanks for your info....William E. Wilkerson was as far back as I got...he was born in King george Co. Va and was married to Jemima Franklin , he lived in Grandville Co., N.C. , Rowan Co. N.C., Knox Co. Ky then Monroe Co. In. He had 21 children but we only have info on about 10...those where the ones that followed him to In. I don't reconize any of the names that you gave but who knows could be the same family. If you have anymore Wilkerson info we might exchange info and see if anything connects.

You may contact me direct at candy1@swindiana.net

Can't really answer your question about In. SHIPLEYs other than for you to look into one of the Robt. SHIPLEYs (poss. the one who was married to Mary McCracken) who migrated from Kentucky (Barren Co.) to In. I wanted to comment on your WILKERSON/SHIPLEY connection. I too have a WILKERSON/SHIPLEY connection with my Ga. SHIPLEYs. My grandparents were Jimmie Abigail WILKERSON b 1880 Floyd Co., Ga., d 1965 Orange Co., Fla., bur. Silver Hill Cem., Polk Co., Fla., m 1905 Floyd Co., Ga., Thomas Andrew SHIPLEY, b 1872 Floyd Co., Ga., d 1956 Polk Co., Fl., bur. Frostproof Fl., Silver Hill Cem.

Great Grans were:
Seaborn Jones SHIPLEY & Mahulda Clara BRYANT
Wm.
It would have to be a male relative with the Shipley name because the testing is done on the 'Y' chromosome, so it has to be the son of a man named Shipley, whose father was named shipley and so on. If Mamie Shipley is a female, her sons will NOT have the Shipley 'y' chromosome, they will have the 'Y' chromosome of their father's line. Sad but true! - Candace

I am not sure if this is the same family line or not. There were other Shipley families living in the area at that time. I've done quite a bit of research and I don't show any record of John having a son namaed James Mayo.
What makes you believe that James is the son of John? I'd be interested in learning more.
It would be nice to have a copy; I understand there are excerpts of it online. A DNA test prob. would not prove, to whom among the SHIPLEYs, one is directly related but it would prove or disprove whether one is related to the "SHIPLEYS OF MARYLAND" line.
Abigail Banks Dennison
Descendant of the Georgia SHIPLEYs

Yes. If you can get a copy or talk to the people who have a book called "The Shipleys of Maryland" you can find out a lot. Just wish I had a copy for my own.

Tidence Shipley was born in Indiana and was in Missouri by 1850 living mostly in Texas & Ozark Co MO. Burial was at Ball Cemetery near Dora, MO. His children either stayed in MO or moved to AR, OK and TX. His daughter Sarah Elizabeth married John Pitman(Pittman)in Ozark Co. MO and died in Howell Co. MO. Some of the family lived in Douglas Co. MO and others migrated to TX.

Were you looking for a specific place?

I also am looking for a Sarah SHIPLEY, but not likely to be the same one as yours, as my Sarah SHIPLEY married Edward ALLPORT (or ALPORT) in Uttoxeter, Staffodshire, England on 08 Dec. 1744 (source IGI--I haven't seen original Parish Register yet.)

Who is Sarah SHIPLEY? She could have been a widow or a spinster at marriage.

The IGI (Batch no. C 139092)lists a couple of Sarah SHIPLEYs chr. in Ashbourne, Derbyshire (which is some 12 miles NE of Uttoxeter). One was chr. 14 April 1718, to Samuel SHIPLEY (another child chr. to Samuel gives a mother's name, Mary).
The other Sarah SHIPLEY was chr. 12 Aug. 1718, to John SHIPLEY.
Either of these Sarahs would be a rather old 27 or so if married in Dec. 1744.

I have been in touch with Chris Pitt Lewis (see his message). Despite his Quaker SHIPLEYs and my Sarah SHIPLEY both being in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, we have not yet found a point of connection.

Does anyone else have info. about this Sarah SHIPLEY, married in Uttoxeter 1744 to Edward ALLPORT?
Thank you--Jane

Shipley family health, continued! How 'bout bi-polar disorder?

Wow... just read the long thread about cardiovascular et al. in the line. Can/will anyone comment on another genetically linked issue, bi-polar disorder? One of my children has been diagnosed, and it was thought the gene came down another line, but one of my Shipley cousins had a sister diagnosed with it, also, which has gotten us wondering! Thanks, in advance, for your willingness to discuss. Please email privately if you wish, cabwms@gmail.com.
