I have been hunting for over 30 years for the parentage of Zebulon Shippy, b. ca. 1748, d. 1828, and the names of his wives (Holmes, Bates?). According to a great aunt, in a history written back in the 1930s, he was born in Dutchess County, NY, and took his family thru the American lines to Long Island, where he participated with the British Forces in doing guard duty; during the war of 1812 he was captured by American forces on his farm in Kent Co., Ontario, but was released due to advanced age. Other sources seem to think he came from Rhode Island. Which is correct?
