Seeking information on the Schiro family from Piana dei Albanese, Sicily

My name is Domenica Schiro. I was named after my grandmother, Domenica Schiro who lived and died in Sicily in the late 1940's. I am seeking information about her, her husband and other Schiro family members. Originally, I believed they lived in Palermo and owned property there. My father was Alberto Schiro who was also born in Sicily and came to America between 1919 and 1921. Ther is no record of him entering through Ellis
Island. We beliwve he may have entered through New Orleans.

I do not find any thing in my records for Giuseppe Schiro born about 1899 in Sicily. Sorry.

Bless you for replying. We are grasping at straws. The Giuseppe Schiaro/Schiavo we are looking for is listed as 30 years old on a birth certificate created in 1919 for Anthony/Antonio Fiorentini. Anthony was born in New York city and placed in New York foundling home. We have found Anthony in both 1920 and 1930 NY census. Maria Fiorentini is also duplicated many places. Father and mother's place of birth is listed as Italy on the birth cert. The only other document we have is baptismal cert for Anthony Shiaro.

Where was Giuseppe Schiro born about 1899 born? Or where did he live? Name of his wife, or siblings, or father and mother, any of these facts may help give a clue as to who you are looking for. Schiro is one of the most common surnames of Contessa Entellina and Giuseppe is the most common male first name

Dear Mr. Shiro, In reading the responce to your query re: Lyn Shiro from the above. I believe I can help that person if his grandmother died in New York around 1916 or 1917. My father has two sisters with the names Elena (Lena) and Anna. Hi, I'm also doing some research to try to find my relatives on my father's side. I know they lived in NY, the spelling was Schiro. My grandmother was named Elena or Lena and had a sister named Anna.
I don't know if there is a connection but maybe we can see with our combined information.

Domenica (Louise) was born 5 May 1842, she was the daughter of Giuseppe Schiro' and Giuseppa Rosalia Plescia. She married Antonino LoIacono 7 Oct 1860 in Contessa Entellina. Giuseppe and Giuseppa married 7 March 1836 in Contessa. They had 11 children. Giuseppe's parents were Matteo Schiro' and Caterina Rumore. Giuseppa's parents were Luca Plescia and Maria Loiacono. Luca's parents were Giuseppe Plescia (alias Caradona) and Giuseppa Clesi.
Antonino Loiacono was born 12 April 1825, son of Nicolo' Loiacono and Caterina Delbuffo.

I not sure if there is a connection, my name is shiro, I have found that it was spelled schiro and shortned by immigration when my grandfather came from Italy to US. If this sounds like it may help I can put you in touch with my niece Cyndi shiro who has done extensive research on our history. I believe my grandfather came over in 1877 and was 8 years old then.His name was Nicholas Shiro and I believe he came from an area near sicily. Some ancestors now live in New Orleans and own the Monteleone Hotel.

thanks for your reply. she wasn't italian though, that last name is an asian name i believe. her maiden name was melin and her name was originally evelyn. she changed it later in life. thanks...

Hi ,i was wondering what info do you have on lyn?Did you know there is a few different spellings for that name?I have Schiro/Sgro/Shiro ancestors.My family came from New York but original from sicily.Maybe if you knew some of her husbands family you can tract them down more. Thanks Dina
