The following information is from a paid death announcement in The New York Times of October 26, 2008 on page 37. I am not related to this family and have no further information. George C. Shively died at his home in Bronxville, NY on October 23, 2008. He was born March 2, 1923 in Fairmount, Indiana, to George Jenks and Hilda Cleveland Shively of Bronxville. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin F. Shively of South Bend, Indiana, and Emma L. Jenks of Brookville, PA. Benjamin F. Shively was U.S. Senator from Indiana during the Taft and Wilson administrations. Emma L. Jenks was the daughter of George Augustus Jenks, Solicitor General of the US in the Cleveland Administration. George C. Shively is survived by his widow, Cynthia Towell Shively, whom he married in 1953; a son, George S. Shively and his wife Jenny of Bronxville; three daughters, Cynthia S. May of New York City, Lucy Shively of Bronxville, and Sally T. Moretti and her husband Enrico of Starrucca, PA; and three grandsons, Benjamin, Zachary and Joseph Shively. George C. Shively graduated from Yale College in 1944 and Harvard Law School in 1948. During World War II he served in eastern France with the 71st Infantry Regiment, 44th Division, Corps of Engineers. He was a partner in the law firm of Satterlee & Stephens from which he retired. He was also a former Mayor of Bronxville.
