I came across a group of pictures at a flea market. Most of them are from Ohio. One is a cabinet photo of a man named Dr. John W. Shockey taken in Columbus, Ohio. I was trying to see if he was related to any of the other photos in the group. Some of the surnames were Garrison, Dubbs, Aires, and Lewis. So far I haven't been able to come up with a connection.

I do have the second wife of Samuel Christian Shockey as Sarah A Penn. However no one has ever submitted the names of any descendants of Samuel and Sarah. Due to the time frame when I believe them to have been married, the names of children would not be listed in any census that they appear in.

What is the source of your information, family Bible, family history or other documents?

35th annual National SHOCKEY Family reunion

Announcing the 35th annual SHOCKEY Family reunion to be held July 2nd through July 5th at the Hampton Inn Suites, 2910 Geyser Drive, Colorado Springs.

The reunion is open to any one with the SHOCKEY surname and any one who descends from anyone with the SHOCKEY surname. There will be a hospitality suite where the computers with the SHOCKEY family genealogy will be set up as well as photograph albums and pictures from the many previous reunions.

The group will be going to the Flying W ranch on Saturday afternoon for a dinner and show. Anyone wanting to go must let Marie Shockey know by Friday morning.

The annual family dinner will be on Sunday in the dining area of the Hampton Inn Suites. The annual business meeting will follow.

In further checking my records, I do find that Samuel Christian Shockey also had a daughter named Catherine, born 1796 in Unity Twp, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. It is very possible that this is the Catherine Shockey who married a Jenkinson. Samuel Christian did live his life in Westmoreland County.

Ralph and Marie found nothing when doing their research. Donald found the name of one son and one daughter for Samuel Christian Shockey. None of the descendants of these two children ever submitted their genealogy line to be including in either set of books or the master SHOCKEY database.

There was a lady who attended the 2008 reunion from Michigan who is a descendant of this line and promised to send me copies of her material and her line back as far as she had it for inclusion in the database. I have not received it yet.

I also have a Christian Shockey Sr., born abt 1877 in Franklin County , PA. His first child was born 8 Mar 1804 and daughter Catherine was born 1 Jan 1819 in Washington County , MD.

His grandfather died Jun 1755 in Westmoreland County, PA.

There is also Christian Christopher Shockey, born 18 Apr 1756 in York County PA. He may have followed his father to Westmoreland County and lived there for a while. However none of his children were named Catherine, just the granddaughter that I mentioned before.

Christian Christopher's oldest brother, Valentine, had a grandson named Christian W born 1776 in Washington County, MD and a granddaughter named Catherine born abt 1779 in Washington County, MD.

Christian Shockey Jr. did have a daughter named Catherine. However Christian Jr. was not born until 10 Sept 1788 making it quite unlikely that he had a daughter born in 1798.

I do not have the name of the person that his daughter Catherine married but do not think that she was born until after 1810.

Adonna the only photos that I am finding are for the brother of your 2nd great grandfather. I show that Daniel had two brothers and one sister. Someone brought pictures of Jobe A Shockey and his wife Emily to me for the Shockey database.

Have you found this John Shockey in the 1850 and/or 1860 census? With John being the most common given name for SHOCKEY men, more information is needed to narrow the choices. Mae Dooley does not appear in my master SHOCKEY database. This only means that no one has submitted information for her.

In the SHOCKEY database, there are 94 men with the first name William. There are many more with the middle name William. There are many where we do not have their date of birth or place of birth.

Is there any other possible information that you can provide to help narrow the search down?

This must be a much younger John W. Shockey.
John W. Shockey burial site is unknown, most likely Ozark co., MO.
John W. Shockey born 1827 Penn. wife was Nancy and she is buried in Wayne Co., Iowa.

John Shockey of Penn. was my 2GG grandfather and my greatgrandfather ended up with the family farm in Iowa.
I am interested in finding the buiral place of John Shockey of Penn. I assume it was in Ozark Co., MO. but can find no proof. Does anyone know? With the mispelling of the surname being taken up by some of his grandchildren it makes it difficult to follow.
I have visited John's wifes grave and his father.
I would also like to find out if anyone in Young John's line has diabetes...which is in his brother's line.

Yes, I have Franklin Almond SHOCKEY b.Oct. 1886 married to Georgia Barnett. Franklin was named for his uncle, his father's brother.
My mother was a SHOCKEY. How are you related?

Thanks for the information. The Christian Shockey I am referring to was born between 1770 and 1775 according to the 1820, 1830 and 1840 census for Unity, Westmoreland, PA.

There is also a Christian Shockey in Unity that is "an early settler" in 1801 referenced in "History of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania" By John Newton Boucher, John Woolf Jordan, Lewis Publishing Company. Published by Lewis Publishing Co., 1906, pg. 221.

Thanks for the further information. It looks like you have quite a bit of the Shockey family identified!
I tried to track down each of the possibilities you mentioned above (and looking at trees online) and I believe I found them all in other areas in the 1820 census.

Christian, Sr is in Election District 2, Washington, MD in the 1820 census where it is reported all his children were born in Leitersburg where he appears in the 1860 cnesus and he died in 1866.

Christian Christopher is in Somerset, PA in the 1820 census where he reportedly died in 1829.

Christian W is in Paxton, Ross, OH in the 1820 census where he reportedly died in 1834.

The Christian I am interested in has been identified in Unity, Westmoreland PA in 1801, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860. The 1850 census shows him as 75 years old (born in PA) and married to an Elizabeth who was also 75. The 1860 shows him as 84 years old and he likely died before the next census.
The Westmoreland history also says this Christian's father was in the revolutionary war and was injured at Brandywine.

This is not my line, I was just trying to help out someone who is related to this line. The John W. Shockey buried in Oklahoma is "most likely" the son of John Shockey of Pennsylvania. The dates listed on his headstone are 1855-1938 he is the one Buried in the Friendship Cemetery not his father John Of PA.

The only other John Shockey buried in Missouri that was close to the age of your John Shockey (PA) who is listed on Find A Grave was a John Shockey; born Feb 31, 1831 in Franklin Co., PA and died Mar 9, 1919 in Oklahoma. (Buried in MO) I have no idea if he is "your" John Shockey or not since the Find a Grave reocrd says his wife was Sarah (Cahterine) Alice Beck. He and "Catherine" are buried in Double Branch Cemetery in Bates County, Missouri. The dates are slightly off and the wife's name is not the same as yours. I only mention it because he was the only one I did find a record for. Sorry if I confused you on my earlier post. I should have listed dates and stated that it was "most likely" the SON of John of PA. My apoligies.

Please don't think that I'm saying the John Shockey buried with Sarah "Catherine" in Butler, Missouri is your John. I am just passing on the information to anyone he might be related to. It just seemed strange that he died in Oklahoma and is buried in Missouri, since at least two John of PA's sons moved to Oklahoma.

I did find a burial for John W. Shockey and his wife Mary M. Shockey in Friendship Cemetery, Minco, Grady Co., Oklahoma. There is a picture of their headstone on the Find A Grave website. There are other Shockey's buried in that cemetery.

I found out my g father had a brother named Robert and a sister, who is/was really old.
My Aunt Ethel pasted away recently, and I don't have access to her old pictures.
My other Aunt Sylvia is in a rest home, and my other Aunt Nona, has moved with no forwarding address.

My father was named Roger Charles Shockey and my grandfather was named Charles Shockey.

I have traced my family back to Germany.
John Christopher Shockey came to America in 1776.
And started a city in Shockeysville Virginia.
I went to one of their annual reunions and it was great.
Get back with me and lets compare notes.
I am looking for pictures of my great grandfather.
And my great Uncle Robert.

I have reason to believe that I am the gggranddaughter of Samuel Christian Shockey (Unity Twp) from his marriage to Sarah Ann Penn. Their daughter would have been Carrie Shockey my ggrandmother her daughter was Lucy Brown who married my grandfather William N. Dehoff.
